We lived pretty comfortably as both of my families were "old" ones to the area. So we still had land holdings and local business holdings. My father's family had the old local doctors in it and mom had bankers and journalists. It is a great setup if you can get a local union job, which are almost gone now due to the death of the rustbelt. Or if you are willing to be a local dr, lawyer, or nurse\pharmacist. A popular hypothesis was in Europe, prior to the Kurgans, the cultures of Europe were matriarchal. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurgan_hypothesis#Kurgan_culture For emphasis Gimbutas believed that the expansions of the Kurgan culture were a series of essentially hostile military incursions where a new warrior culture imposed itself on the peaceful, matrilinear (hereditary through the female line), matrifocal, though egalitarian cultures of "Old Europe", replacing it with a patriarchal warrior society,[26] a process visible in the appearance of fortified settlements and hillforts and the graves of warrior-chieftains: The process of Indo-Europeanization was a cultural, not a physical, transformation. It must be understood as a military victory in terms of successfully imposing a new administrative system, language, and religion upon the indigenous groups.[27]In her later life, Gimbutas increasingly emphasized the authoritarian nature of this transition from the egalitarian process of the nature/earth mother goddess (Gaia) to a patriarchal society and the worship of the father/sun/weather god (Zeus, Dyaus). This supposed egalitarian, mother-goddess-worshipping society is not the same as a matriarchy in Gimbutas's view. My philosophy professors taught me the true art of the discipline is the art of reading welll. The way in is learning what is already. Most of the great philosophers spend a significant amount of effort on reviewing and critiquing existing systems before fully outlining their own. | furb 02/02/21 7:23:25 PM #1 | Got my first traffic cam speeding ticket today. I was going 49 in a 35 zone. It was around 11pm at night on a divided parkway. I assumed the speed limit was 45 or 50. Guessed wrong! I was in a part of the town I am not usually in running an errand. So, I really didn't know the speed limit. The other cars seemed to be faster than me too, but since it was later at night, the road wasn't bumper to bumper. It's not a super high fine or anything. It's also not points on my license. It just kind of irks me. My luck ran out. Past couple times pulled over for speeding ended in warnings. Have any of you got them before? I've been pulled over around 5 times for speeding in my life.
