Math apologists are annoying when they say or imply that math is for everyone. It's not.

When we say math is for everyone what we mean is that you don't need to be Isaac Newton to succeed in math. You just need to enjoy doing it and put the time and effort.

It's just a way to console people who have intense math anxiety when they feel like they aren't 'smart' enough to do math.

Obviously if math makes you totally miserable doing it then it is not for you.

I have math anxiety, but it's not because I don't think I can do it; I just don't want to.

But yeah, makes sense.

This. Even creative types which have the stereotype of sucking at math a lot of the time can benefit from learning some forms of maths to incorporate into their art, in fact it's very important imo.

Calc 1 was the last I finished. It was the only class in my life I ever got a C in.

Started calc 2, got three weeks or so into it, then decided fuck that shit, dropped it, and changed my major to something that didn't require any more math.

Algebra 1 and a bit of trigonometry.

I have a GED, but I really don't like math, because it's such an overrated slog. :(

Like, my brain is actually super logical, so I know I'd be more adept than this if I actually applied myself, but when post-university job prospects in the United States are so theoretical and I can hardly maintain a job anyway, I'd just rather do something that I feel is more productive with my time.

Math is learnable, but it takes way too fucking long; things become seriously problematic when you realize that you can't bullshit your way through it like you can, say, a history class or something. Every subsequent concept builds upon a preceding one, and that just seems way too annoying considering how immensely vast and complex the topic actually is.

It's also obnoxious when you're systematically writing down one problem on one or more pages, only to find out you fucked up a step somewhere down the line.

Math apologists are annoying when they say or imply that math is for everyone. It's not.

Math is just applied logic. If your brain were "super logical" you would be good at it

Uh just because a brain is predisposed to something by default doesn't mean you don't have to learn how to use it to do the thing that it's theoretically adept at.

Like, is this seriously your argument?

If you want to take an elitist jab, you can do better.

But yes my brain is quite logical. If you want to jump at me from the getgo, then I'm gonna do the same. I bet we could pick any debate topic and even if you knew more than me about the concepts, I'd likely be able to notice logical inconsistencies in your thought processes before you would.

Both classes involved PDEs and tensor algebra. My exam on the former class is actually next week (I passed the latter with an A+ back in November)

Advanced Algebra, which I failed the first time and passed with a D-. I was good at math up until that point, but it just got too complicated. For example, the problems in the book would involve 4x or (1/3y)^ but the test would be nothing like that. We would ask our teacher to solve the problems after the test and he couldnt always solve them. When he couldnt, he never gave us points back and the school let it happen because he was a coach.

I was always great in college or on standardized testing, but that one class and that one teacher ruined my math confidence.
