Africa and Asia are lighter. Most of the world isnt just Western society.

Im not shocked that a world that says Dont talk about serious topics too early has a lot of unsuccessful relationships.

Nobody even knows themselves enough to share life with someone else. This includes talks about finances, family expectations, even simple stuff like communication preferences or how both parties tackle conflicts. Hobbies. The friends the keep.

Nobody takes the stuff seriously, imo. The amount of people who also ignore things until they build up also sets folks up to fail.

This is assuming you have little external factors.

I think people just arent really sure what life looks like five-ten years later and folks lose compatibility too.

It happens. But I dont think statistics are drastically different.

Not every character in fiction has to be presented as morally flawless.

It's up to you, reader, how you perceive them.

The narrative should reflect the morality. If a pervert groping characters is treated as comedy narratively, then the story isnt treating the character as flawed. Mineta often times have characters chastise him, but narratively, its used as a joke.

I think its silly writing that distracts. Especially since Mineta can easily be a good character. He had glimpses of it when he was inspired by Deku. But writer insists on making him a trash character imo.

KeeperOfShadows posted...
If nobody found perverted characters funny, they wouldn't be used for comedy. It's fine if you don't find them funny. Just don't watch them. There's plenty of anime without perverted characters.

Bro, I dunno. I legit just think horny mangakas are projecting. Tbh. So many standup comedians have shows but they arent funny. I dont buy Well, if it wasnt funny, it wouldnt be done! Creative people are just lazy sometimes and copy what they think works. Look at Hollywood.

I have to challenge you here: According to who?

Let's take this example: "I say there are too many effeminate men in anime! Pretty and fanciful male characters offend my Religious values! Effeminate and pretty male characters dont need to constantly be in flux in the same way."*

(*this is not my actual opinion, it's an example of this thinking going too far using the same justifications)

Now, I agree that pervert characters are cringe and annoying, I hated Master Ryoshi back in the day when I first discovered DBZ...and I've never found these characters particularly useful and never endearing.

I think fiction is best when we dont try and copy n paste tropes. Reality tv does it when they cast archetypes instead of trying to be original. After the Dark Knight, suddenly DC movies are super gritty and dark. Quips are everywhere after MCU. There was an era of making classic villains into anti-heroes etc.

It cant always be helped. But at least have a reason.

I cant think of why pervert characters are a thing. I can only conclude that someone did it and now its just grandfathered in without a point. Like the protagonist who is academically dumb but a battle genius. Bonus points if they eat a lot.

Its just overdone to me. I nitpick pervert characters because they are a net negative to me, as far as tropes go.

I don't believe in placing arbitrary restraints on fictional writing. If writers want to do better and audiences want to make better choices that is preferred. I really don't want to see the left swing back the other way and become censorious in fictional media with "pervert panics" the way conservatives and the religious right had their moral and "satanic panics" and their anti LGBTQ crusading now.

I'm a free speech guy.

That doesn't mean I support spreading misinformation, history revision, or unrestrained propaganda in the form of news and non-fiction. This also doesn't extend to the classroom curriculum...

TL:DR - Let's not become the censorious left when it comes to fiction, in the way religious and cultural conservatives have been for years.

Bro, I dont give a shit about your politic stuff. I dont mean to be rude, but left right or whatever I personally dont care about.

Fiction goes through cycles. Just like some people like sympathetic villains, and some just want cartoony. Pervert characters dont need to constantly be in flux in the same way.

Im stating pervert characters are bad. Because I have never seen anyone find it funny. Adults or children. It doesnt provide any cool insight to a character. It doesnt progress character arcs. Its not entertaining. It has terrible implication for both the pervert character and the characters he pervs on.

I want good characters. Someone being pervy isnt always bad. Zenitsu has both traits. Him being desperate to get a wife, and thus, constantly trying to get with women sheds light on his character without going overboard. But the second it involves extremely young characters is where he loses me.

Brock was brought up. Another example. Its possible to show a character as highly sexually motivated without going into harassment territory. I feel like Brock was okay about this.

Fucking Jiraiya being a peeping tom is just dumb. He writes erotica novels. Does he need to peep on women to be inspired? Hes halfway fine because Naruto constantly clowns the dude about it, but the show plays it for laughs.

Obviously this is my opinion. But thats what I think.

Nah.

I'm fairly left, I consider myself a feminist, but I am generally against demanding we change written fictional media to exclude things.

Besides:

1) Perverts exist in real life
2) Usually even if the pervert is a generally positive character, the being a pervert is shown as a character weakness and flaw.

I also am less inclined to demand changes to media from other cultures and languages, since I don't have a deep understanding or immersion in Japanese culture the same I have for American culture, and Euro-centric culture being a white American dude.

Dont make perverts the good guys.

Dont make perverts comic relief.

Easy fix without removing them. Ive never seen it used as a flaw until Denji in Chainsaw Man. But I dont watch anime like that.

Japan needs to grow up. Perverts are not funny and the trope needs to die.

Its like if a hero character occasional beats people. Oh wait! Japan does that too where female characters bloodying and beating male characters for laughs.

It can be done fine. I just think theres a difference between a horny character, a ladys man, and an outright pervert.

Master Roshi forcing a female character out of the ring because shes scared about his sexual intent or whatever the fuck is stupid and disgusting.

I will never watch 7 Deadly Sins because of the main character.

Pervert characters suck because it doesnt add any positives to a character. Miroku is a good character. Him grabbing everyones ass is not a contributing factor.

And I dunno why this childish trope is so popular.

I would say that's pretty unreasonable to follow the line that because someone could fallaciously call someone a thing that it now is an insult. The ability to do so certainly turns it into one in some circumstances, but you can do that will almost anything to turn it into something else entirely. Like I could use "funny" as an insult (something like "you are being so funny") but it's beyond ridiculous to call it just an insult. In that vein you are certainly capable of using chud as an insult, but the overwhelming usage of it is just calling people out. It is just disingenuous to act like the minority ability to use it as an insult immediately means that it is now just an insult. It is no more an insult than being called a Republican is.

If I call someone a Republican with the intent of it being derogatory, it is an insult, yes.

Theres no way you are suggesting otherwise.

And to be clear. Chud, alone, is not an insult. But it can be used as one is the point.

That is not true. *How* racist or much of a chud is subjective, but the act of being so is very much not. If someone is doing racist they are racist, what changes is "how much" as where people draw the line is different. Like, when Matt Walsh said that he couldn't trust Black pilots because he couldn't trust that they had received training that is always racist. However, the difference in perception means what while I find that to be excessively abhorrent for a Republican it wasn't "that bad."

This is fair.

What is your definition of flaming?

If I call someone a terf, using your example, because Im implying something nefarious about them. How is that not insulting them? Them being their character?

If someone does not claim to be a terf or chud, or whatever else. People insisting they are is an attempt to insult their character.

Its why you cant call someone a loser or a jackass. Youre making an insult to their character.

A better example is nerd. Some people claim that title. It doesnt mean you can just call someone a nerd without it being flaming.

The intent it is to imply something negative.

You can say your logic is something a chud would do because that attacks the argument. But calling someone a chud directly easily falls under flaming to me.

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. That's most people. Many of them with worse problems than you. Yet the number of people who overthink things and make the problems feel worse for them than is necessary isn't that high, comparably. The point was never to just give up or to simply accept everything, the point of this message is that stressing yourself out is only doing more damage to you. If life itself is already fucking you over, shouldn't you cut yourself a break? You're the one person who fully understands your own pain after all. The average person had many problems that will be difficult or impossible for them to solve. And even if you are successful, one day you will die and it will all be meaningless to you. So why worry over everything? Even if it isn't much, why not focus on things that you can do and that you enjoy? A small improvement over time does add up. If you are still alive, you can still do something.

Or you know, give in to despair like me and see how well that goes for you. I'll tell you right now, when they say stress kills, they aren't fucking around buddy.

This may blow your mind.

But worrying too much is sometimes, ironically, the thing people cant control.

Not really. They run the gamut of both extremes with a completely neutral option. Besides after the things you've said and believe, your opinion and criticism means less than nothing to me

How old are you, bro?

Theres no mild choices.

Small annoyance, by why even put that spoiler here if you already say Remake? Like, you give no indication what youre spoiling and could even be using it to hide a joke.

Just doesnt make sense. Anyone who played the original knows. You dont have to specify.

Oh man. A dude trying to help a stranger at golf. Presumably as an ice breaker to maybe talk and get to know her. Or even just trying to be helpful. He doesnt go into frame, so isnt in her physical space. And after he believes his help is done, the dude leaves politely.

So many better examples of what women go through. As if the dude knows shes a pro. Maybe hes the best in his group of friends and thinks he can impart help to others.

This world is so ass, holy shit.

Women get too much attention. Men dont get enough. We get it. But this being an example seems like a reach.
