All the male Greyrats weve seen are varying degrees of pervert too. Paul is a scumbag who has very loud sex with his wife (then again, its really Zenith whos that loud), Sauros/Eris grandpa fucks the catgirl maids, Philip tries to (jokingly or otherwise) pawn Eris virginity to Rudy on his birthday night, Luke says stuff like all Greyrats prefer big boobs and Sylphie has no sex appeal to her face in the last episode.

I don't think they need to stop even though I 100% do not find it amusing, and almost always makes me like a character less. However, this is something that has changed as I've gotten older. It's fiction, and we don't necessarily need to clean up our fiction as long as everyone knows that it's not okay in real life and it's not something to aspire to.

I don't believe in placing arbitrary restraints on fictional writing. If writers want to do better and audiences want to make better choices that is preferred. I really don't want to see the left swing back the other way and become censorious in fictional media with "pervert panics" the way conservatives and the religious right had their moral and "satanic panics" and their anti LGBTQ crusading now.

Fiction goes through cycles. Just like some people like sympathetic villains, and some just want cartoony. Pervert characters dont need to constantly be in flux in the same way.

Not every character in fiction has to be presented as morally flawless.

It's up to you, reader, how you perceive them.

If nobody found perverted characters funny, they wouldn't be used for comedy. It's fine if you don't find them funny. Just don't watch them. There's plenty of anime without perverted characters.

Now, I agree that pervert characters are cringe and annoying, I hated Master Ryoshi back in the day when I first discovered DBZ...and I've never found these characters particularly useful and never endearing.

Wishing perverted characters (In which it's their main and sometimes only personality trait) dies off like "Girls assaulting guys is funny!" tsundere types (Aka Naru) started losing popularity.

The narrative should reflect the morality. If a pervert groping characters is treated as comedy narratively, then the story isnt treating the character as flawed. Mineta often times have characters chastise him, but narratively, its used as a joke.

I think its silly writing that distracts. Especially since Mineta can easily be a good character. He had glimpses of it when he was inspired by Deku. But writer insists on making him a trash character imo.

I think fiction is best when we dont try and copy n paste tropes. Reality tv does it when they cast archetypes instead of trying to be original. After the Dark Knight, suddenly DC movies are super gritty and dark. Quips are everywhere after MCU. There was an era of making classic villains into anti-heroes etc.

I cant think of why pervert characters are a thing. I can only conclude that someone did it and now its just grandfathered in without a point. Like the protagonist who is academically dumb but a battle genius. Bonus points if they eat a lot.
