Japan needs to grow up. Perverts are not funny and the trope needs to die.

Its like if a hero character occasional beats people. Oh wait! Japan does that too where female characters bloodying and beating male characters for laughs.

It can be done fine. I just think theres a difference between a horny character, a ladys man, and an outright pervert.

Master Roshi forcing a female character out of the ring because shes scared about his sexual intent or whatever the fuck is stupid and disgusting.

I will never watch 7 Deadly Sins because of the main character.

Pervert characters suck because it doesnt add any positives to a character. Miroku is a good character. Him grabbing everyones ass is not a contributing factor.

Im fairly certain that this never happened.

In the 21st Budokai Roshi fought Yamcha, Krillin, and Goku. In the 22nd Budokai Roshi fought the Wolfman, Tien, and he retired.

I love Master Roshi as a character, but there are some pretty "ehhhhh" moments with him to where it goes past being funny to just creepy. That's sort of Dragon Ball in general. Still love the show.

In this ONE instance, she actually "started it" by deliberately trying to seduce him. He hulked out all excited like which caused her to freak out and flee the "ring," which is notable because teams that had all of their members eliminated had their entire universe wiped from existence.

So Master Roshi's horniness actually destroyed a universe (kind of).

I haven't watched it but it sounds like Roshi just called her bluff lol. He is horny, but he's definitely a shrewd martial artist too

She "had" him but then he snapped to and was in serious mode. She just didn't get the memo (because she misinterpreted his fiery speech as innuendo) and frightened that he was going to do....something...untoward to her.

In effect, it's a full lean-in to his perverted reputation despite the fact that he was (mostly) in control of the situation, particularly at the time of her elimination.

This is how I felt the first time I watched the show years ago. It was annoying and out of place. That said, it could be left to some side characters. Like Miroku from Inuyasha. Characters that are a bit morally dubious.

People have flaws. Characters have flaws. Many people prefer art this way without placing the flaws themselves on a pedestal.

I'm fairly left, I consider myself a feminist, but I am generally against demanding we change written fictional media to exclude things.

Besides:

1) Perverts exist in real life
2) Usually even if the pervert is a generally positive character, the being a pervert is shown as a character weakness and flaw.

I also am less inclined to demand changes to media from other cultures and languages, since I don't have a deep understanding or immersion in Japanese culture the same I have for American culture, and Euro-centric culture being a white American dude.

Mushoku Tensei would be a lot better if Rudy wasn't such a perv, imo. At least, don't play it as something that is supposed to be funny/comedy.

Yeah, he's pretty bad. I like to think that he's an intentional deconstruction of the trope since he is ALWAYS called out on it and it DOES result in him being an outcast, which isn't usually the case with characters who have that trait in manga.

I also agree that Meliodias' incessant fondling of Elizabeth in Seven Deadly Sins was pretty tasteless and in no way added to the series or his character. The in-universe justification for it does NOT make it any less so.

Roshi and Sanji were kind of funny (though One Piece is so gd long that Sanji's gag got stale well over a decade ago) but Mineta and Meliodas's pervy moments were never amusing.

I am with you on Deadly Sins. That is like the first show I had to stop watching because of that. It didn't make me feel good watching it. I did like the Pig . Also with some of the others you spoke about Miroku is forgotten about. Since people are so much worse. But on an island a lone. That stuff is a bullcrap.

All the male Greyrats weve seen are varying degrees of pervert too. Paul is a scumbag who has very loud sex with his wife (then again, its really Zenith whos that loud), Sauros/Eris grandpa fucks the catgirl maids, Philip tries to (jokingly or otherwise) pawn Eris virginity to Rudy on his birthday night, Luke says stuff like all Greyrats prefer big boobs and Sylphie has no sex appeal to her face in the last episode.

I don't believe in placing arbitrary restraints on fictional writing. If writers want to do better and audiences want to make better choices that is preferred. I really don't want to see the left swing back the other way and become censorious in fictional media with "pervert panics" the way conservatives and the religious right had their moral and "satanic panics" and their anti LGBTQ crusading now.

I'm a free speech guy.

That doesn't mean I support spreading misinformation, history revision, or unrestrained propaganda in the form of news and non-fiction. This also doesn't extend to the classroom curriculum...

TL:DR - Let's not become the censorious left when it comes to fiction, in the way religious and cultural conservatives have been for years.

I don't think they need to stop even though I 100% do not find it amusing, and almost always makes me like a character less. However, this is something that has changed as I've gotten older. It's fiction, and we don't necessarily need to clean up our fiction as long as everyone knows that it's not okay in real life and it's not something to aspire to.
