My in-depth review of Echo:

It was fine. I can't muster up any strong feelings for or against. I think first episode was clearly the best (except for the muddy CG stuff at the beginning). D'onofrio is once again good, though I'm not sure how many times Marvel can return to this well. Certainly not deserving of all the "Viewer Discretion Advised / Rated M for Mature" nonsense, which was clearly a marketing ploy.

What If season 2 beated. The last episode felt like watching a kid play with action figures. I know the premise of What If lends itself to fan fiction but this just felt dumb to me.

Overall I didn't like it! Moving on to Echo now.

Just finished the Hela episode of What if Season 2. Two episodes left I think.

The quippiness is painful in this one. Hela quips, Black Widow quips, Kahhori quips. Maybe season 1 did this too but I find it pretty annoying. Some decent ideas and the animation is cool but feels like a bit step back from Season 1.

they should've just called it secret avengers instead of thunderbolts.

Next up on colliding's rewatch: Ant Man and the Wasp

This is better than I remembered it being. I used to think of it as the quintessential average MCU flick, but it has some legit funny parts. I found myself liking it more than Thor Ragnarok and Homecoming(!?). I think it being more of a romantic comedy than a superhero flick has helped it age. Paul Rudd's great in this.

Also I re-watched IW and it's still perfect

You could also have had mutants/X-Men somehow "hidden" from the SHIELD / the entire MCU for the last forty years, via trapped in an alternate universe/space crystal /tardis. The first X-Men film could be set in the past and explain why they've been missing all this time.

I maintain they should just drop Kang and the multiverse as a major plotline. It's been done into the ground. Loki S2 is a decent ending to it.

Next on the rewatch: Thor Ragnarok

Goldblum still carries. The visual design is still top tier. Love the use of Led Zep.

However, on this rewatch I was really bothered by the treatment of Vollstag and the other warriors, who are cruelly and immediately one-shotted by Hela in a way that felt cheap and unearned before, but now feels extremely lazy. Maybe it benefited on release from being so different from the first two and it feeling slightly more weird and original than standard superhero fare.

I used to have this in A tier but I think it's B tier now

Far from home would be good if not for the last battle sequence. Spidey fighting a bunch of frisbee drones isn't interesting.

Again, I don't see how recasting in any way affects the character of Kang.

it affects it in the way that majors was actually a pretty good actor and I liked his performance (in Loki at least)

Jeez, I don't get why it was this movie of all movies that people finally just had no interest in. It's a shame, because almost everyone here seems to agree that it was pretty decent. Honestly it's probably my third favorite post-Endgame MCU movie after GotG3 and NWH.

It really isn't surprising. Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan are not big draws. I barely remember who the first person is and I was pretty lukewarm on Ms. Marvel (though I like the character and the actor). I can't imagine a person who hasn't seen the Disney plus stuff being interested at all. The quality of the movie doesn't really matter when it's pitched so poorly. Maybe if there was a pressing cliffhanger, but right now I don't even know what the MCU is actually building towards.

Edit: As far as what Marvel could have done differently, my big plan post Endgame was to have Captain Marvel 2 introduce Nova and build toward an Annihilation movie that would eventually introduce the FF and X-Men (who have been trapped in the M'Kraan Crystal and wiped from the universe's memory since 1960). But no, let's continue the multiverse nonsense instead.

I've always thought Titan was kind of boring but they've been doing interesting stuff with him recently. FFXVI is definitely his best showing.

Valefor is just kind of gross looking. I've never liked it.

Waititi's not doing himself any favors with comments like these, especially if his Star Wars plans are still on track. Seems really stupid to make these comments while also having ANOTHER highly opinionated and protective fanbase already wary of you. Still, it's not a terrible thing to say that you weren't interested in a comic film but you did it because of the money. He said some positive stuff about the experience too.

He's got to own up for LAT being weird though. It's not even bad. It's just a weird, irreverent, non-funny mess of a film that has a few good parts to it. People forget that Ragnarok had Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost attached - two highly respected comics writers.

I still think this is a decent show but it's approaching bleach levels of asspull territory. it also is giving off real heavy "the story has already peaked" vibes

As long as he doesn't set most of the movie at night or underwater I'm fine with Coogler. I don't know if he wants to do more superhero stuff though. Money talks obviously.

Not to relitigate Dr. StrangeMOM again but that movie was a huge mixed bag critically I thought. Raimi works best if you let him cook and I don't see them letting him cook on Avengers. I don't see Coogler being excited about this either. If they could get Favreau back that'd be huge.

Edit: I assume he's blacklisted to oblivion, but I bet Marvel would kill for a non-problematic Joss Whedon

Feige should probably start making Disney plus shows their complete own thing. The whole "half important half not" angle they've got going isn't working, as proven by all the articles complaining about the Marvels having "homework" along with it (i.e. watching Wandavision and Ms. Marvel).

They had it right the first time (and by that I mean Netflix did) with the idea to keep the shows focused on street level heroes and regular people. They can react to stuff that happened in the movies but they don't need to tease/set up any movie events. Maybe lead up to a Defenders style crossover special every once in a while (although make it better than Defenders).

I don't think the MCU is quite dead yet. I agree that this is an extreme outcome (I would call it an outlier, even compared to Quantummania, which underperformed but wasn't quite a "bomb"). I think they did a particularly bad job marketing the Marvels. This is partly due to the strike, but mostly due to the trailers. This just doesn't seem like a movie I care about seeing, despite all the good reviews here. I am interested in a semi-serious Carol Danvers sequel that fleshes out the space part of the MCU. I will wait for Disney Plus to watch an ensemble freaky friday comedy with two other leads I don't particularly care about.

Deadpool 3 is going to be just fine.

I do think they're basically going to blow up the multiverse/Kang plan though. I would not be surprised if they dump bags of money on RDJ and Chris Evan's doorsteps in the coming months.

No new playable characters, no new mechanics, no new skills, not even any new artes, and apparently all that is there is entirely rehashed and recycled from the main game. Sounds like all that's really here is some extra story, which was the worst part of the base game. The Graces F Arc completely clowns on this in terms of adding meaningful content to the game. Absolutely bonkers and just bizarre that they're trying to sell this for $30 when it seems like they didn't even try to do anything here.

Okay, I actually didn't know this. I assumed it had a new character and new skills at least.

The ending to this game is either brilliant or completely dumb, and I can't make up my mind on it honestly

giants already won 2 games so they're in no danger of being called a historically bad team. that's a win for the players.
