The first few episodes will be like Gantz, which will get people hooked, and then it will turn into Bleach, where it's super stylish with hype fight scenes and epic moments with very little substance underneath. A character saying something in a piece of media doesn't mean the author agrees, even if the character in question is meant to sympathetic. They're a character who, if the writer is remotely competant, is going to be thoughts and values of their own. Saying that the character saying those things are in anyway equivilant means the author agrees with that statement is a bit of a hack take. It's understandable how someone could reach that conclusion though since there are a lot of hack writers, which is why in a case like this I'm not really gonna jump on anyone who gets blindsided by it. It's more supported by the actual content of my the series than the idea that they support the current topic of discussion, but that's still an assumption. Note that I haven't read any interviews from the author, that's where the meat of this discussion would lie be I assume. There's still plenty of room for conflict in a romance even without those things, though! The girls in Highway Blossoms had plenty of hurdles to jump over, but those issues were inherent to their characters and things they needed to figure out about each other and themselves.
