That isn't a recast, though. I can't imagine picking someone who could've played Cyclops the first time around to still play him this time - we've had another one in the middle!

What If good again, I think I like this ep better. Big group of characters making for a few threads I didn't expect, and with more lighthearted comedic bits while still being a more serious episode

also yeah I feel the visuals & animation for this season are just so much better than the first season

maybe if i do an evening bump people will catch on that What Ifs started

This season of What If seems better than the last, so far. I didn't dislike the first season, but I felt like they really didn't try to get far enough away from "what is" in the MCU. Nebula as a hard-boiled detective? I like that. And the second episode, well, that was already a sort of what if question I already had. Not the Star Lord stuff, but what if there was an Avengers team before the one we knew in the MCU.

A+ comedy ep with Hogan (lol Hulk Hogan), Darcy & Hammer although ngl got sad the moment Maria Hill spoke... dammit Secret Invasion\

also gotta be a fun time in the booth having Hemsworth, Ruffalo, & Renner together again

Im away from home and I want to wait to watch on the big screen rather than on my phone. Probably doesnt really matter much for this, but still.

Man these episodes have all been great. Star-Lord one was probably the weakest so far but it was still good. Keep it up Season 2!

when the season 1 finale introduced Gamora I was not expecting her to be from a podracing episode

Peg episode gotta be the bottom for this season for me, which isn't surprising since I wasn't a fan of its season 1 debut. I want to say at least it's not just a movie redone with Peggy instead of Cap, but it starts to become heavily repeating Black Widow, not as much, but then it's also my least-fav MCU movie so ehhh. At least I still like Nat in her What If incarnations, but the Peggy & Steve stuff is tiring with cliche and the episode feels like it ends the same way again - Steve's out there somewhere T_T. Also yeah Steve being in the suit all the time is jarring. There was also this weird bit in the Nat vs fight where x is a long distance away, zooms in for a scream, then cut to her punching Nat in the face somehow? The cut was so sudden when it just showed them meters part I had to rewind that.

Kahhori tho is the complete opposite type of episode and I love it, brand new franchise here just doing something completely different, charming characters, beautiful visuals, interesting new power discovery even in the context of a unique cultural setting for the franchise that commits to the language. Lol'd at Queen Isabella getting clowned on in the end there we they held no punches. Also bless this is the episode to cameo What If's previous best work with Strange Supreme. Excited for more Kahhori!

That may have been the most jarring cut in the MCU, it's like we were missing a clip.
S2 pretty great so far, I think the first half of the first episode might be my favorite. Hardened detective Nebula needs an entire season.

Last 2 episodes were fantastic, not sure which I liked more.

Kahhori episode was nice but not what I was looking for in a "what if" episode. What if is for fucking with canon and while this technically fit that definition I do not like when "what if" introduces brand new characters. The comics barely did this because they knew it's not what people were reading for.

another great ep, it isn't even close that season 2 is better than 1

eh finale's a flop for me which is a bit of a downer

the story of it is not good, an annoying sudden backtrack on the series best character. not a fan of Peggy as the series protagonist and as much as I enjoyed Kahhori's debut its absolutely extreme to jump her next outing into being the only other character with Peggy against Supreme - for the most part completely un-boosted they just kinda gave her every power you could thiink of and the show unsatisfyingly speedtracks her own knowledge of the events of the show/mcu universe.

season 1's finale was a great culmination of the season but this one really isn't that at all. to be fair the previous episode did that well at least but oof

Enjoyed the season, the finale was a bit meh. Biggest issue was like you said just undoing everything Supreme learned in S1, if they had given him any other motivation that wasn't a backtrack I think I would have liked the episode more, even it it were a stretch.

like maybe if they had some time to show Strange's return to decent but instead we just have the most powerful episode in the series that ends with him repentance, the s1 finale arc he makes up for it by being the biggest contributor to saving the multiverse....... and then all of a sudden he's doing his first episode all over again and feeding people to the forge

it also feels like we even missed an episode for Kahhori, her episode ends with Strange picking her up... and next we see her she's on the run and knows everything

anyhow, one week for folks catch-up on What If before Echo's episode-dump!

I agree that the last episode wasnt great for the reasons mentioned. But I otherwise enjoyed the season. Then again I enjoyed the first season too when most everyone else was down on it. Im a bit of a mark for a short story, so I just enjoy the format, even if Im worried theyre getting a bit too interconnected with season 2.

Favorite episodes probably Gamora and 1602.

So am I the only one who thinks The Marvels bombed through relatively little fault of its own ("relatively" compared to something like The Flash or the new Indiana Jones movie)? I feel like MCU movies typically depend bigtime on opening weekend so Disney's inability to market it to the mainstream basically destroyed it. I can't imagine the release of a Hunger Games movie in its second weekend could've helped since even though this particular one had a male lead, the original films seemed to depend more on female audiences compared to other action-type blockbusters so it could have cut into that demographic that carried the first Captain Marvel to box-office glory.

It feels like even the anti-progressives gave The Marvels little coverage and then moved on from it fast, at least compared to the first movie.

Watched the first two episodes of What If Season 2. Nebula as a cyberpunk detective was great. Second episode was fine, but this was at least a scenario worth exploring.

Next up on colliding's rewatch: Ant Man and the Wasp

This is better than I remembered it being. I used to think of it as the quintessential average MCU flick, but it has some legit funny parts. I found myself liking it more than Thor Ragnarok and Homecoming(!?). I think it being more of a romantic comedy than a superhero flick has helped it age. Paul Rudd's great in this.

Also I re-watched IW and it's still perfect

Rewatched it a year or two ago and I still didn't think it was great. The entire Ghost storyline is pretty bad.

my initial watch I was fine with it, new marvel movie I'm pretty easy

rewatch nah it's way too empty, there's nothing to make-up for the non-existent antagonist perspective. like the recent Marvels is blasted for the weak villain but I'd say at least it has a serviceable motive to drive the plot, and most importantly, the main cast have great chemistry together with a cool fighting gimmick to make the movie enjoyable even if the villain doesn't

also major shame to waste Fishburne so badly, but hey at least he got some attention in What If

It has the best Stan Lee cameo though.

Wasn't keen on the Nebula episode either, though I did enjoy Gillan's performance (as usual) and her double act with the duck. Managed to waste Jude Law even worse than Captain Marvel.
