Hope the rest of the cast pulls out over this even if Im not sure it will matter. Director made a post saying hea unhappy but then deleted it. Frankly it is impossible not to see this as a massive warning shot from the studio saying we are willing to tank you and ourselves to deny war crimes.

Here is an interesting article discussing the way Hollywood is splitting over this:

https://variety.com/2023/film/news/hollywood-divide-over-israel-melissa-barrera-1235804452/

Really to further tie this to the political and macroeconomic sphere the producers at the top have this entire year been deliberately tanking the industry for ideology with this and their intransigence over the strikes. And thats going to have a major impact. Its going to put a lot of people out of work, its going to destroy local cinemas and it could even have a broader economic effect.

On the other hand, could he be a more perfect caricature of "stocks over people" if he tried?

The first reply I see does raise a good, if entirely unrelated point

How does a guy who worked as a FSO for 24 years under five administrations count as "an Obama Advisor"? He worked for Regan, two Bushes and Clinton before he worked for Obama

Disgusting behavior regardless, though.

Given the timing, and how the scheduling with Wednesday was never considered an issue publicly until now, I feel like it's more likely that the studio agreed to let her out of the contract if she said it was because of filming conflicts rather than them being assholes or something of that sort. The timing here is very interesting.

If there is a Scream 7, I hope it bombs.

My guess is they were holding off until now to see if they could negotiate and either this was the last straw for Ortega or they are just using this as an opportunity to torch the film and run. The film doesnt even have a shooting schedule yet so it being due to scheduling conflicts is odd.

htaeD can talk more to the Dutch aspect but I think its a wee bit more complicated than a broad embrace of the far right in Europe and across the world. You look at Poland where the far right incumbents got their asses kicked, or Spain where the far right just flopped, and other places where there isnt a far right surge and it paints a different picture than places like the Netherlands, Finland, and others. I think what is happening is that the global economic conditions are causing governments all over to collapse, and in a lot of countries the prime opposition is the far right. In places where the right and far right are already in charge, they are losing power. I think were seeing a massive anti-government shift which is often but not exclusively tied to the far right. The bad news of course is that this could empower the far right in many places including the US and France.

Trump's legal team might have played themselves. Called a witness to the stand and then on cross-examination the state AG basically turned on the Phoenix Wright music.

https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-worst-day-ny-fraud-trial-thanks-to-defense-witness-2023-11

Business Insider reports...
The witness was Jeffrey McConney, who was the comptroller and spreadsheet czar at the Trump Org. McConney had been called to the witness stand by the defense, but on cross-examination by lawyers for the state attorney general's office Tuesday, he linked Trump firmly to the conspiracy and fraud counts that have yet to be decided in the non-jury trial.

McConney was handed People's Exhibit 3054, a draft of Trump's net-worth statement for 2014. He was asked to look at a note scribbled in thin blue ink on the draft's first page, "DJT TO GET FINAL REVIEW," which he said he'd written.

[...]

Starting with damage to McConney himself, his blue-ink notations directly contradict his testimony from the prior day.

The spreadsheet czar had testified on direct examination Monday that he would review each year's draft net-worth statement with Weisselberg, who would then give the approved draft to the outside accounting firm, Mazars USA, which would print the final statement.

This chain of command -- McConney to Weisselberg to Mazars -- leaves out one very important link, as the state's lawyer, Amer, pointed out on cross on Tuesday.

"I believe there was a step in between that involved Donald Trump prior to 2017?" Amer said to McConney, who appeared uncomfortable on the stand as he said Trump indeed did the ultimate signing off.

Article worth the read if you're interested in more of the details but LOL they really didn't think this one through.

I dont think its so much that the majority of my country all fell to the far right. But that it was the only movement that came together in a strong way and did not get split up.
The only upside is that indeed it will be difficult for Geert to get a coalition since he already cannibalized the other extreme parties to get to the top.

The longtime Trump executive became weepy in answering the final question from the defense lawyer Jesus Suarez, who asked why he'd left the Trump Organization after 35 years working there.
He left to "stop being accused of misrepresenting assets for the company that I loved working for," he said, wiping away tears as he described a history of being subpoenaed on the federal and state level in connection with the Trump Organization.
"It was like working with family," he said. "I feel proud of what I did."

I honestly don't even fucking know what the fuck is going on right now. I know any criticism of Isreal or IDF is going to paint a person as an anti-semite and the things Hamas has done are not okay but fuck so many innocent people on both sides are being killed and I wish there was a way to just bring peace to everyone. The thing I have the most trouble understanding is why criticizing the terrible things Israel has done is considered so much worse than criticizing the things Hamas has done.

Israel made a fake website that the official Israel and IDF Twitter accounts are claiming was created BY Hamas, and it says comically evil things like Our mission is to trick people into support Islam and has testimonials from supposed Hamas fighters with literal headshots and overlaid text like I love to hear Israeli screams, especially the women and children.

If you need evidence that its fake, the website is hosted and created by Wix, an Israeli company that publicly fired employees for supporting Palestine.

That is not even close to a "Hitler wasn't that bad" and trying to summarize it in that way is intentionally misleading. Not that the truth is any better, because what he is saying is a "Hamas is worse than Hitler". Those are two completely different sentiments and it is important to distinguish the two particularly with what Israel's current strategy is.

The War Room statement should have filled you in that this isn't in a vacuum lol.

I'm sorry, but there's not much reason to distinguish between "Nazis had some redeeming features compared to irredeemable Hamas" and "Hitler wasn't so bad."

There have been multiple a shocking number of people in the government, in media, and influencers who have literally tweeted things like "The Nazis at least thought they were doing good, while Hamas knows and revels in evil" and "Nazis had shame, Hamas brags about their acts."

I tried searching for them, but I suspect many have been deleted.

I think it is an important distinction because of something that was just brought up:

Grimlyn posted...
pretty much the entire purpose of dehumanization, so people don't feel bad if things happen to people they've been made to view as vermin

If it is "Nazis weren't that bad" that just makes them dumb/laughable in a vacuum. But what they're actually saying is "you know the very worst people that everyone uses as a barometer for human evil? this group is worse." It feeds right into what Grimlyn was just talking about.

Which is why I disagree with this:

I'm sorry, but there's not much reason to distinguish between "Nazis had some redeeming features compared to irredeemable Hamas" and "Hitler wasn't so bad."

Again I think its more a huge anti-establishment, anti-government move instead of necessarily a shift rightwards, but in many places that does mean a shift to the right. On the other hand, look at Poland, which was seen as a far right bastion for so long, worshipped by the likes of Trump and Bannon yet has now gotten rid of their far right government. Indeed nearly every incumbent government in an advanced economy thats facing an election is losing regardless of where it sits, all thanks to the cost of living crisis. People are desperate for change, which can be good or bad depending on where you are.

Its 2008-2011 with the crash all over again, and that resulted in a lot of nasty right wing governments, but also some progressive ones. The constant was that governments got thrown out all over the place. I think were seeing the same thing now.
