One of the strangest consistent themes along my facebook newsfeed is that the most depressed, angry friends who constantly complain about their life sucking, their family hating them, their kids being in danger of taken away, their job soul-crushing, etc. are the same people who will share the next meme bashing Hillary, praising Trump, and laughing at butthurt liberals.

It's just bizarre how without question, the most vocal, whiny people on my feed are conservative trump supporters who can't shut up about offending the liberals. And their lives meanwhile suck. I mean sure, I'm positive I have liberal friends who are having a hard time too, but I don't hear about it. They generally keep their problems to themselves. My conservative friends are the ones that constantly whine about their problems on facebook, then immediately call out liberals who whine about being PC.

I just don't understand how you can have such little self awareness to make fun of the thing you are most guilty of doing, and make no attempts to hide it.

I loved it. Ill never understand the hate for it. I get not liking it but people seem to genuinely hate it with a passion lol.

I actually did enjoy it for its time.

Most people don't like it cause of the really odd artistic choice but I'll give them credit, it was unique. The plots itself just felt like regular slice-of-life in elementary school kind of thing.

The show, to me, felt like a mix between Hey Arnold and Braceface, just with a reeeeally out-there art style.

I'm hoping they'll find a solution but things like this make me wonder.

The Woman in Black

I just hate movies where genuinely good people are harassed the whole movie and they end up losing in the end (and in the case of this movie, the protagonist losing his own life and his son's).

Or horror movies in general when you think the protagonist beat the villain but then the villain randomly and inexplicably survives and kills them anyway.

Sounds more like a simple joke about technologically ignorant parents. But idk about the show or how "smart" its humor generally is.

It ranges a lot. Some (most) jokes are lame dad jokes but every once in a while they come up with something relevant and witty.

In this case the Wii U was bought by their dad who had since deceased in active line of duty as a fire fighter. It was a Christmas present but he died before he could give it to them. They found the gifts a few years later. I took the joke as the dad didn't die that long ago and the Wii U was already irrelevant by the time they found it.

When I played Survival, I first built a home base and decked it out. Several rooms and floors, a farm, a garden, etc. All inside an impenetrable fortress.

That took me some time as I would venture out (but not too far) to get the supplies to do this. Every time I went out, I would create small hideouts along the path where I could rest if I wasn't able to make it back home before sunset. Eventually I started expanding those hideouts as well and they became second and third homes.

As I explored further, I started building tunnels and rail systems to connect my different homes together through the different biomes.

Good signage helped me keep track of where I have been.

After a while, I had made a pretty good dent in developing the land across the world where there was never any real danger at night anymore.

It takes some patience to play this way but I had a good time.

I love longer intros. About 30-45 seconds is ideal. It helps set the mood of whatever Im watching.

And with streaming sites now allowing you to skip the intro, it doesn't make binging any less fun.

I'm tired of the "title card as intro" thing that most shows do now.

Crazy Ex Girlfriend has some of the best intros for modern currently-running shows. Seasons 1 and 4 are particularly my favorites.

Another great one is A Series Of Unfortunate Events. Catchy and sets up the episode.

I had a similar thought the other day but from a different angle.

If society has no problem with multi-sex partners, why is it suddenly a big deal when someone "cheats" on their significant other, especially if both were okay with multiple partners prior to their relationship?

It just seems odd that people willingly go from "I will sleep with whomever I want" to "I plan to only sleep with this person for the rest of my life" just because.

It makes sense for religious people following a biblical teaching, but not so much for atheists or people who don't follow biblical guidance on monogamy.

I'm thinking of getting this game, but I never really played Smash before. Got a few questions I'm hoping you or someone else can answer. Thanks.

Do you believe Ultimate will continue for a long time, similar to Melee? I mean is it really that good so far?

How hard would it be for me to learn this game and compete? I play Tekken and NRS games in tourneys, but obviously they're different.

I think this game will last. So many characters and I doubt they're gonna release another Smash so soon. I've enjoyed it and a lot of people have, if not for some complaints about online.

I don't think the learning curve is any more difficult than any other fighting game. The tutorial and training modes are pretty good. Also the mapping of buttons to variations of standard and special attacks does make this game easier to pick up than your traditional fighter in my opinion.

If you've never played, the tricky part is mastering the jump, double jump, up special recovery technique that is crucial to surviving this game. That's the part that my wife struggled with the most when learning this game.

Last episode she had an epic fight scene at a bar and now she played 6 different characters (including herself) in one episode to perfection!. She mimicked the other characters with such precision. I was particularly proud of her Jason impression.

Yeah, work sucks.

Up until now, I've worked jobs that paid relatively little (comparable to the position responsibilities) but gave me lots of flexibility over the hours that I worked. Plus, being higher education, we also got additional days off than just holidays like Fall Break and Spring Break and Fridays off in summer.

But my new job pays significantly more (double what my last job pays) but it has a more traditional 8-5 schedule and it suuuucks. I've never hated Mondays before until working this job. Weekends go by too quickly and consists of me either choosing to actually relax with my wife or catch up on chores like mowing, laundry, cleaning, etc.

This weekend we chose relaxing meaning that now I have double the work ahead of me next weekend.

I need some of my side investments to mature so I can get out of this working environment soon.

I would like to add to this, my ex-wife came to this country from Honduras, and her family was one of that had money and connections there, including family in high-level government positions. If I said her family name, @Zanzenburger, you would probably know it. Corrupt people. Criminals. They all entered the US easily. Every part of the immigration system is broken.

Exactly.

People not involved with the immigration system don't realize just how bad it is, and then wonder why people try more extreme measures like seeking asylum through the caravan or illegal crossings.

And yet no one is having a serious conversation about how to restructure our immigration system so that it is more fair and workable. It's easier to just assume that the system is fine as it is and people just choose not to use it and find a workaround.

The people in the caravan are willingly putting themselves and their children in harm's way in an attempt to get into the US. That's how bad it is in their country. That's how desperate they are. They didn't just wake up one day and decide to leave their life behind because they are bored. People don't seem to understand what desperation can do to a person.

@Fam_Fam

The requirement to enter being having a skill or something to contribute to the US is a basic requirement almost anyone has. That is a low as fuck bar to pass, if a person cant meet that standard and has nothing at all to contribute to the country they should NOT be allowed to freeload. We have enough lazy native population, legal citizens who refuse to get a job, why the hell should we accept outsiders who also want to be lazy freeloaders ?

We cant kick out our own lazy people but nothing says we have to or should take in foreign lazy people.

I don't think you quite understand what it means to "be able to contribute" to the US. Just because someone is deemed "not able to contribute" means they are lazy freeloaders.

I have family in Honduras who have tried on numerous occasions to apply for legal citizenship. My family consists of teachers, electricians, and office workers. They work hard and have a decent education. But they are poor, and that's the main reason they continue to be denied entry. Being poor is apparently enough of a reason to deem someone "not able to contribute to the US".

Although they have skills that they could apply in the US and plan to do so (considering the teacher and electrician shortages in various states), the government primarily wants people with money and connections. I know this because I know of other people in the area that were approved easily, whom really are lazy freeloaders but happen to be trust fund babies in their country.

I've noticed that to get to the "fun" work in a particular field, you first have to suffer through years of entry level crap like clear mentioned. You're doing routine work that isn't fun, but merely dictated and you are working with other people who are unmotivated and unwilling to learn.

Once you rise the ranks long enough either through promotion or vertical advancement by job hopping, you are usually given more flexibility in projects you want to work on and how you do them. The downside to that is that those promotions typically also involve other aspects of the job you probably don't want (i.e. budgeting, HR, compliance and reporting). So you are doing the parts of the job you always wanted to do, but now you are working 60+ hour weeks to get everything else done that comes with it.

To make matters worse, in an effort to cut costs, companies continue to consolidate positions, so you are either stuck as a specialist doing one task repeatedly with no deviation, or a generalist where are you are doing 3-4 jobs in one for the pay of just 1 job. It's pretty rough.

Basically what I wanted to say to @clearaflagrantj

Entry and mid level positions are often dull and repetitive. Gotta keep learning, job hopping, and climbing upward. I'm in my 9th year of IT and I'm finally starting to see the light at the end of the awful job tunnel. Current job gives me 25% of the workload my previous jobs have given me, pays me 30% more, and lets me come and go from the office as I please. Work is much less soul crushing when you know you're not forced to be at your desk for a set amount of time.

I'm not quite at your level yet, but yeah, since my recent promotion my job is much more tolerable. I'm in and out a lot and pretty much set my own office hours. I supervise two people who hold the same type of job I held just a year ago and I can definitely see the difference in flexibility.

I've only been here a few months so I'm still testing out what I can and cannot do, but so far I've been enjoying the freedom a lot more. Upper management has already expressed an interest in promoting me from within once a position opens up in their area.

https://swiftkickhq.com/the-failed-promise-of-open-office-spaces/

"Harvard professor, Ethan Bernstein, dug into the research behind the War on Walls craze. He found the data to be less than promising. He found that face-to-face communication actually DECREASED 70% because co-workers opted to communicate via email and IM instead of verbally talking to a co-worker.

The promise of open office spaces was to bring people closer to each other in hopes of increased collaboration and collective intelligence. Access to technology has proven the opposite, however, as co-workers communicate more often via a screen versus in person, even when sitting near each other. Electronic communication actually increased 20-50% with open office spaces. Professor Bernsteins study found that, removing spatial boundaries can decrease collaboration and collective intelligence."

An interesting piece I found about open office spaces. I haven't seen it so much in my industry (higher education), but I've heard this is becoming more common in the corporate world. Is this true?
