TopicAnyone watching that Ghosts TV show? UK version or US version

Ghosts (US) is amazing. The show is hilarious, the ghosts have great chemistry with each other, and it has a lot of heart. For a comedy, the show can get surprisingly dark (especially when learning the backstories of the characters and how they died). If it weren't a comedy, you'd be really depressed at seeing what they went through. Thor's backstory in particular was depressing.

But I just love all the antics the ghosts get into. I like how many of them have powers that get cleverly used throughout the show (but they dont go overboard with them). And Rose's character and her husband are adorable together.

I'm caught up on the US version. I find it pretty damn good. My favorite ghost is the guy without a head.
Lol, since the pilot episode, I'm like "where the heck did the headless guy go"? He simply disappeared from the show after that. Once I thought they wrote him up, his headless body appears again randomly for just one scene. And then we don't see him again for a whole season until a recent episode where they finally find his head. I hope that means he will come back more. I like him and could see a fun dynamic with him and the cast. He's just as quirky as the rest of them.

More often than not, it's a waste of food. For every person who will eat what gets put on the table endlessly, there will be three people who are full and won't finish it.

On average, two refills are enough to placate most customers. For the occasional customer who wants more, they can simply ask.

In Olive Garden and every Mexican place that offers chips, I have rarely ever needed more than two refills. Had they just kept putting the food there after I didn't want anymore, I would have just left it there and it would have gone to waste.

I always found it strange how both sets of clothing can vary so drastically in appropriateness. We have pool parties every once in a while at work and coworkers will show up in bikinis, which is quite the extreme opposite from the work attire I'm used to seeing. If they show up in underwear they would be dealing with HR but because it's a swimsuit it's fine, even though they both cover just as much.

Agents of SHIELD has a good take on a speedster hero, I think. She has the traditional superspeed, but she can only do it for the span of one heartbeat before she snaps back to her original position. So she can disarm a room full of people, but she isn't completely broken.
She had some of the best scenes in the show. I remember one episode when she had to run into a room laced with motion sensor bombs to either save someone or retrieve something and barely got out with her life. But the scene was amazing to watch.

She also had some of the darkest plotlines (like getting both of her arms cut off and having to get cybernetic arm replacements).

I think the unique thing that a lot of people are missing here is that those rival characters listed (other than Knuckles because no one cares about Knuckles Chaotix) became popular enough to become lead characters of their things. Which I don't think has really happened with a similar Superman character. The spin-offs tend to be stuff like Supergirl and Superboy right?
While the topic title is a bit confusing, I think this is the focus of the topic.

The question is if Superman has a rival/nemesis who has become popular enough to spawn their own spinoff series. As far as I can tell, there isn't any.

I hear people say this a lot but honestly, season 4 was less zany than season 3. In a recent rewatch of the whole series, I actually found season 4 more in line with Community seasons 1-3 than seasons 5 and 6.

For each "zany" episode like the puppet episode, season 4 had more "normal" episodes like the Inspector Spacetime convention (and I use the term normal loosely, normal for Community standards).

I agree with others saying The Last Wish had no right to be as good as it was. The first movie was very run on the mill that didn't really "subvert" fairy tale tropes, in fact it played it very straight. The second movie is leaps bound a better film in general. I really like the fact that the movie was able to include 3 different villain achetypes and for the most part worked. I think the 3 bears and Godilock story arc could've been fleshed out a little better (and that's really just a nitpick on my end), but Jack Horner and Wolf Death more than makes up for it. I really enjoy the fact that they made Perrito an actual likable character. Normally, the sidekick cute achetypes like him piss me the fuck off, but they manage to make him very likable in a funny and emotional way. I think I was the only one in the audience that laughed at this backstory. It was so mean spirited that it caught me off guard.

Have the same creative team who made this movie make the next Shrek film. Honestly, Dreamworks really needs to take advantage of this while Disney and Pixar films have been fairly lackluster lately.
Absolutely agree with you on the archetypes. Outside of the general mature theme of the movie that people like to praise, it's really cool how the movie deconstructed movie trope villains as represented through three characters. You have the comically evil villain who's evil for the sake of it (and enjoys every bit of it), the potentially-redeemable villain with a tragic backstory that's doing what they perceive is right, and then the force of nature villain who isn't really good or bad but just following a code and sticks to that code.

Really, every character gets a decent amount of development in that film, and to an extent subverts common tropes of that character type. The "tough female lead" isn't a Mary Sue, and ends up getting hurt and humiliated as often as the male lead. The "funny sidekick" is not as stupid as you expect him to be, just kind and sometimes naive but overall a very clever and wise character with a surprisingly depressing backstory.

Amazing, amazing movie that had no right to be as good as it was.

Also, outside of just recognizing one or two characters, you do not need to see the Shrek movies to understand this movie. Heck, you could probably get away with skipping Puss in Boots 1 and still be alright. This is a pretty self-contained story.

Depends on your credit score at the end of the day. Co-signing for a loan will affect that as they will do a hard check on it. If you do it right you would need to wait 6 months or more before you get a new car yourself. You dont want multiple checks within a short time frame.
The checks aren't as bad on a credit score as most people believe. It's a few points deducted tops.

TC, what you'll want to look at is your debt-to-income ratio. Anytime you apply for a secured loan like a car or house they will look at your income left over after debt. Co-signing on a car loan adds to your monthly debt payment. It can make it harder to qualify for another car loan if over 50% of your monthly payment goes to debt payments.

As long as you make decent money and the monthly payments for the car are on the lower end, you should be fine.

Will CEOs and other C-level executives at companies consist of virtual workers who rose up the ranks, or will there still be a bias towards in-person workers to get to that level? Remote work is changing the culture of what a good employee means, but I wonder if the culture will change enough where it would be common for someone who worked their entire career remotely would achieve the VP or President level at their company.

And if they do make it to that level, I'm curious how much more remote-friendly jobs will be when leadership came from a remote environment.

I imagine putting the money in at the start of the month is much better so you can make long term plans more effectively.
Correct. You treat your savings (and emergency fund by extension) as an "expense" you need to budget for at the beginning of the month. You basically decide how much you want to save, then work the rest of your budget based on what's left over, instead of the other way around.
It makes wealth-building the focal point of your budgeting, not an afterthought.

This is the main concept of the YNAB app (You Need a Budget). This budgeting app has you budget our your monthly income to the most granular level (including savings, investments, and contributions towards vacation and your emergency fund).

You are given a monthly budget (which is your total monthly income linked to your money accounts). You need to make sure everything is allocated so that topline amount is 0.

By that point, you are paying your bills, giving yourself some wiggle room for entertainment, building up your savings and investments, and keeping an emergency fund you add into every month.

I've been doing this for years and it has saved me tons of money. It's really how most budgeting should happen but requires some discipline to do and it does take some getting used to. If I didn't allocate for it this month, I cant spend money on it.

The first one was decent, but I don't think it really stood out. The plot was pretty normal for a family movie, and the twist was very predictable.

But the second movie, that's something else entirely. I don't think I've seen such a quality jump between two movies in a long time. Everything from the movie's pacing, the character development, the villains, and the animation are top quality. It even takes common movie tropes and fully subvert them. I also love how it continues the "reference other fairy tales" schtick of the Shrek series but in a way that is fresh and not played out.

But I think the strongest point to this movie is how dark it is. It doesn't shy away from deep philosophical topics that actually warrant discussion after the movie. You usually only see this from Pixar films so I was impressed.

Do you think a mobile / rental only operation would be feasible? I have access to retail space at near $0 but its only about 800 square feet, so not enough for actual laser tag. Like are the commercial grade guns easy enough to use anyone can figure it out or do you need to be trained as a game master to get them working right?

how seasonal was yours? Were rentals more of a summer thing or were they year round?
We did year-round, but stuck to more indoor parties in the winter. So churches and schools and stuff. We did do the occasional outdoor party in the dead of winter, depending how cold we were willing to get. The kids didn't care. They ran around and kept themselves warm.

For mobile, you need to buy tactical gear, not the infrared ones. Those only work indoors in the dark. They are relatively easy to operate as long as you are comfortable running through the menus and setting up the game software. If you play video games it shouldn't be a problem.

The real challenge is maintenance. Used commercially, guns break down all the time. Unless you teach yourself to make minor repairs, you'll be sending your guns for repair a lot for minor things, like the trigger breaking or the sound speaker going out. With a little patience, you can learn to fix these yourself and save yourself money and time. Always have more guns than you need so you have backups when things break down.

Hey! Yeah, thats me.

I used the Battle Company brand of laser tag equipment. The guns cost us about $12k (financed) to get a set of 16. We had both a mobile and indoor arena setup.

The mobile was cheaper as we just bought inflatable bunkers at $150 a piece which we could set up and tear down. The fixed arena used a combination of wood, chloroplast, and paint to create intricate wall designs. That ran us about $15k, but only because we hired an artist to paint some neat designs. We could have done it for much cheaper if we just painted it ourselves.

There are commercial laser tag arenas out there you can buy and that they can install for you, but they are much more costly and not worth it imo. They'll just look like any other generic laser tag place. Ours at least was unique, which was part of the attraction to our community.

Red and Kitty make this show. Every scene with them is gold.

The kids are alright, but I think what weighs them down is the overeliance on teen love drama. They are leaning on the will they/won't they way too early, and is the focus of too many episodes in such a short season.

My memory of 70s show is hazy, but did they have so many episodes focused on crushes and dating so early on? I coupd have sworn the early seasons was more about them just being zany kids in the 70s.

I feel like the strongest scenes with the kids are ones where they get involved in random wacky antics (like the "smoked ham" scene, the hot tub scene, and even the kiss practice scenes). If they tone down the relationship stuff, I feel like it would give them more of a chance to shine comedically.

I do appreciate the 90s references. Not just the obvious ones like AOL or Blockbuster, but the more subtle ones, like the pacifiers at parties or girls snapping each other's bra straps. Nice attention to detail.

But instead of pushing for more inclusionary practices where the students don't fall behind at predominantly White schools through proper teacher training and inclusive policies, it makes much more sense for them to just separate them apparently.

I imagine Season 2 will go into more detail as to how exactly it happened, as we havent seen her exact origin story yet like the others.
