It's not voluntary or malicious or anything, it's just a condition she has where no matter how you wake her, softly or aggressively, a long sleep or a nap. Once she wakes up she starts instinctively choking you until she comes to her senses, stops and apologizes.

A nine-year-old black girl killed herself after prolonged racist bullying by her classmates.

McKenzie Adams took her own life after being mocked and taunted because she had a white friend.

Family members say McKenzie had transferred to U.S. Jones Elementary School in Demopolis, Alabama, because she had been bullied at her school in Linden, Alabama, reports the Tuscaloosa News.

Eddwina Harris, McKenzies aunt, said: She was being bullied the entire school year, with words such as kill yourself, you think youre white because you ride with that white boy, you ugly, black *****, just die."

The nine-year-old girl, born August 14 2009, hanged herself last Monday. Her grandmother found her in their home.

Instead of planning where to hide Christmas presents for the girl who loved playing with dolls and riding her bike, her family is now planning a funeral.

Ms Harris said: Its an emotional roller-coaster.

Harris, who is a television host in Atlanta, said she wants to use her platform to spread an anti-bullying message to prevent other families from experiencing the same tragedy.

McKenzie attended U.S. Jones Elementary School in Demopolis, where her funeral will be held at 11am on December 15. She transferred to the school after her mother and grandmother complained to the State Board of Education that she was being bullied at her elementary school in Linden, Harris said.

McKenzie's mother, Jasmine Adams, told CBS 42 that much of the bullying came from her friendship with a white boy and how his family would drive her to school.

"She told me that this one particular child was writing her nasty notes in class," McKenzie's mother said.

"It was just things you wouldn't think a nine-year-old should know."

"Part of it could have been because she rode to school with a white family," she continued.

"And a lot of it was race, some of the student bullies would say to her 'why you riding with white people you're black, you're ugly. You should just die'."

Schools attorney Alex Braswell said in a statement: "We are working fully with the Demopolis and Linden police department. They are doing a joint investigation of these allegations.

"We are cooperating fully and I can't comment on any of the aspects of the investigation until they conclude it."

Ms Harris described her niece as a girl who loved the beach, the zoo and wanted to be a scientist some day.

She said she intends to speak out against bullying and hopes her efforts can save the lives of other children who feel hopeless.

God has blessed me to help others with my platform, and now its time to help. There are so many voiceless kids, she said.

Two homeless men were arrested Friday after they allegedly broke into a California apartment to cook a meal and take a shower, police said.

Elijah Smart, 29, and Markis White, 19, were charged with burglary for allegedly breaking into the Santa Monica residence, police said. Robby Spillman, the homeowner, told NBC Los Angeles that the men treated his place like it was their own.

They were able to get on my patio and come in through the back, he told the station, adding that he found the men Friday after returning home from Christmas shopping.

Spillman said the men smelled like they hadnt showered in weeks and asked him whether they could hang out for a while. He said he played along with them and asked whether they had enough food, then pretended to take his dog for a walk while he called the police.

I was calm and I said to them, 'Do you have enough food?' 'Is there anything I can get you guys?' he said.

He said he and his girlfriend have a baby due in a few weeks and the whole incident has made him reconsider whether the couple should stay in the area.

A Christmas Day argument turned deadly for a Florida family after an 82-year-old father allegedly shot and killed his son, the Hillsborough County Sheriffs Office said.

Guy Vickery, 82, allegedly shot his 50-year-old son, Benjamin Vickery, after a long-term family feud came to a deadly end on Christmas night.

The Hillsborough County Sheriffs Office responded to a 911 call from Guy's Plant City home saying the elderly father had shot his 50-year-old son in the upper body during a heated argument. Benjamin Vickery was rushed to South Florida Baptist Hospital, where he died, authorities said.

Guy Vickery was arrested and charged with manslaughter with a weapon and could see up to 30 years in prison, according to the arrest affidavit.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, this wasnt the first instance of violence between the two men, who were known to have a tumultuous relationship.

In February 2000, another argument took a violent turn when Benjamin Vickery, then 31, began kicking and punching his father, then 63, outside his home. Guy then took out his .45-caliber pistol and shot Benjamin in the shoulder, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

Guy Vickery claimed he was acting in self-defense and was not charged; charges against Benjamin were eventually dropped, the report said.
