A co-founder of LGB Alliance was reduced to tears during cross-examination on the definition of the word lesbian on Thursday, prompting the court to adjourn, during a legal challenge to the Charity Commissions decision to award charitable status to the organisation.

The meaning of the word lesbian has been analysed on several occasions during five days of court hearings triggered by a challenge brought by the childrens trans rights charity Mermaids.

Kate Harris, a co-founder of LGB Alliance, was invited by Michael Gibbon KC, counsel for Mermaids, to reflect on whether some people would have a different understanding of lesbian from the definition given by her organisation.

That a lesbian can be a man with a penis? she asked.

Gibbon responded: Putting it in a more neutral way, that lesbians can include someone who is a woman as a result of gender reassignment.

Harris, who is a lesbian, was distressed by the exchange, and the judge called for a short adjournment. Gibbon later apologised if he had raised something inadvertently upsetting. Harris said: Im going to speak for millions of lesbians around the world who are lesbians because we love other women We will not be erased and we will not have any man with a penis tell us hes a lesbian because he feels he is.

She added: A lesbian is attracted to another biological woman, full stop.

Mermaids argues that LGB Alliance was created as an anti-trans organisation, set up to undermine the work of Mermaids and other charities such as Stonewall which advocate for trans rights. It questions whether LGB Alliance meets the legal threshold for charitable status, which requires its purpose to be exclusively charitable for the public benefit.
LGB Alliance contests that it is promoting the rights of lesbian, gay and bisexual people, based on its position that there are only two sexes and that gender is a social construct, and rejecting the decision of most LGBTQ+ organisations to move towards a more interchangeable use of the words sex and gender.

Harris said her organisation was created to protect children from a dangerous and confusing gender-identity ideology.

Mermaids counsel questioned Harris and LGB Alliances chair of trustees, Eileen Gallagher, on the combative and confrontational language used by the charity in tweets and campaigning literature, including accusing Mermaids of child abuse and of spreading lies.

He said Mermaids took the safeguarding of children very seriously and questioned whether it was LGB Alliances place to criticise the national lottery and Starbucks for choosing to fund Mermaids.

Gibbon asked Gallagher about the balance between political lobbying and its charitable work, asking for details of its commissioned research and plans to launch a helpline.

Harris rejected the suggestion that the charity had an anti-trans agenda. People like us and JK Rowling and thousands of others have been called anti-trans for the simple reason that we say biology is real and that there are two sexes, she said. She added that the use of terms like anti-trans and transphobic were lazy shorthand used to avoid dialogue.
The hearing, which was due to end on Friday, has been adjourned until November.

Disagree that just because something is open worlf it makes it automatically less atmospheric.

I didn't say it was "because" it was open world. I said it was open world AND much less atmospheric.

The first two games were full of claustropbia and great sound design, even when you were on the surface it was hostile and where you could go was limited with a constant ticking clock and confusing creatures. "home" is some ambigious place behind you that's in danger of being destroyed.

Exodus you're never a mile away from your best mates, you're always safe, there's never creepy sound or linear storytelling. It's just bumbling about as stuff happens.

And again that's not a shot. There's pros and cons to both. I just wouldn't call Exodus spooky or atmospheric.

The game literally has a "pet your wife" button. That's not something you get an atmospheric horror game.

Exodus really isn't spooky.

It's much more open and less atmosphereic. You spend most of the game outdoors and the survival mechanics have been removed.

That's not criticism or praise. It's just different.

Actually it turns out it's not the post apocolypse. Everyone else in the world is fine and it turns out all 4 warring factions were instigated by the ilumanti because if they told you the truth everyone would kill each each for some reason.

That's dumb and it makes the previous 2 games' struggle so silly.

You're walking along one day thinking about what to have for dinner this weekend when you hear strange noises coming from a strange room. In an uncharacteristic display of bravery you enter the room and are shocked by what you see inside.

5 cages hang suspended in the air, each containing a different helpless person. Mario, Luigi, Captain Toad, Wario and Waluigi. The cages are all slowly lowering towards a pit of molten lava that will kill them in agony once they reach the bottom.

Then you look across the room and see 5 levers spread across the wall, each one an exactly equal distance from you. Each lever clearly activates the mechanism that lowers and raises their respective cage. The problem is that they are all such a distance apart from each other. So while you could easily reach 1, by the time you flipped it, the other 4 victims would have died before you could get close to the second.

In the middle of the room on the floor you see Yoshi's half eaten corpse. It's clear Bowser made captive Mario watch as he ate Yoshi alive in front of him.

Luigi sighs as he looks at Yoshi's body and says "Poor dinosaur, Bowser doesn't know the indigestion he's in for!"

Captain Toad is the first to notice you and he says "Am I glad to see you! The Mario Brothers...and I...and, well, everybody...we're all trapped inside these cages! Bowser has stolen the Stars and our Princess! He's using their power to create his own world where he will marry her! We gotta stop him!"

Mario jumps up and down as he excitedly yells: "Mama Mia! We still have a chance to savea the princess! Heya stranger! It's-a-me! Mario! Open this cage and let's-a-go!"

Waluigi tries to say something but is interupted by Wario who loudly shouts "C'mon kid! Save me! I'm a nice guy! You won't regret it! I promise you! These other guys? They're all wieners! Nyah! Trust me"

A MUM has been left frustrated after a bus pass issued for her four-year-old daughter was revoked by the council because of a mistake.

Lyndsey Webb is now facing having to pay 600 for her daughter, Callie, to travel by bus to school with her sister or drive them both to school herself.

The 35-year-old mum of two from South Warnborough, near Odiham, already has a seven-year-old daughter, Lily, who attends Long Sutton CofE Primary School and who is eligible for free bus travel to school.

The family live more than two miles from their catchment school, and there is no safe walking route, meaning they are eligible to use the school bus supplied by Hampshire County Council.

Lyndsey, who works at The Hatch pub, applied for her four-year-old daughter to use the bus when she started in Year R in September, believing she would meet the same criteria as her elder sister.

A bus pass was issued by the county council.

However, when her youngest daughter came to use the bus pass, she was told it had been given in error and she wasnt in fact eligible for free bus travel.

Instead, Lyndsey has been told she needs to pay 600 for a bus pass for the year, until her daughter becomes eligible in the term after her fifth birthday, which is not until September 2023.

Lyndsey said parents were up in arms about the situation with others at the school also affected.

Whats the difference between a four-year-old and seven-year-old? she questioned, adding: Hampshire County Council has issued these bus passes for a reason and now they have been revoked.

The mum is now having to drive both children to school, driving past the bus stop on the way and following the bus to school.

Its absolutely ridiculous, said Lyndsey, adding: Now my eldest will have to be driven to school alongside her sister, so her independence has been taken away.

You would think that with the way things are in the world at the moment with living costs Im now driving two children to school and there is no parking.

Lyndsey said it would be more environmentally friendly for her daughters to use the bus, and safer, because it parks right outside the main entrance.

A spokesperson for Hampshire County Council said home to school transport is only available for eligible children from the school term after they turn five-years-old.

However, Lyndsey believes this policy should be changed and said: My daughter is old enough to go into full-time education so why cant she travel on the school bus?

If her daughter were to travel on a public bus in Hampshire it would be free up until the age of five.

The county council apologised for issuing the bus passes in error to a small number of families which it blamed on an administrative error.

The spokesperson said: We apologise for any confusion, inconvenience, and upset this has caused.

Families can choose to pay for seats, if they are available, on our contracted home to school transport vehicles until their free transport assistance comes into effect. However, those already eligible take priority.

This option is charged for by the term and the cost is based on the distance being travelled.

Asked why transport is not free for school age children in Year R, who would otherwise meet the eligibility criteria, HCC said: The county councils school transport policy reflects the requirements of the Education Act 1996, the Education and Inspections Act 2006, and complies with the Department for Educations statutory guidance issued in July 2014.
