A 32-year-old man fell to his death after proposing to his girlfriend on a bridge in Miyakojima, Okinawa Prefecture, early Monday morning.

According to police reports, the incident occurred at around 12:05 a.m. Monday near the central part of Irabu Bridge. Fuji TV reported that the man fell 30 meters into the sea.

The man had been in the car driven by his girlfriend to Irabu Bridge. After parking on the side of the road, near the center of the bridge, the two exited the vehicle, and the man made his proposal. He had been drinking and slipped off the bridge moments after his girlfriend said yes, police said.

After receiving an emergency phone call from his girlfriend, police launched a search for the man. Seven hours later, at approximately 7 a.m., his body was pulled from the sea. He was taken to hospital where he was confirmed dead.

A 54-year-old man died after stabbing himself in the chest on a street in Higashi-osaka City, Osaka Prefecture, on Monday morning. Prior to the incident, the man had chased his wife along a street, threatening her with a kitchen knife.

The drama started at around 5 a.m. on Monday. Sankei Shimbun reported that Kawachi police station received a silent emergency phone call. Officers recognized the phone number as belonging female domestic violence victim and two law enforcement officials rushed to her residence in Higashi-osaka City. When they arrived in the vicinity, they saw the woman's husband, Hiroyuki Katayama, an unemployed man from Tochigi City, wielding a knife and chasing a woman along a street.

Police put the woman in their patrol car and a 27-year-old officer aimed his gun at Katayama and ordered him to drop the knife. Neighbors who heard the commotion and witnessed the incident said Katayama stabbed himself in the chest and neck. He was taken to a hospital but died shortly after. His wife was not injured, police said.

In February of this year, Katayama’s wife had returned to her parents' home in Higashi-osaka after suffering domestic violence at the hands of her husband.

We have already heard about dozens of relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Harvey – but this story sets a new bar for “pieing-it-forward”.

A Pizza Hut restaurant in Sugar Land, Texas paddled into their local neighborhoods earlier this week so they could make special deliveries to Texans trapped by the floodwaters.

The manager of the Pizza Hut restaurant, Shayda Willison, says that when she learned about members of the community who were trapped in their homes and running out of food, she asked the staff to start baking pies at full speed.

A team of volunteers then gathered several kayaks and loaded them high with over 120 pizzas.

“They were so happy to see us coming down their street,” Willison told FOX 4. “You never let your family go hungry.”

Other Hurricane Harvey relief efforts have included a Chick-Fil-A manager dispatching a rescue boat to help an elderly couple; a reporter being given a 6-pack of beer as a thank you for his coverage; a furniture store opening its doors to flood victims; and another reporter rushing to the rescue of a truck driver trapped in floodwaters.
