Resident Evil 6, it's very dissimilar to any other main entry game and the canon lore goes pretty hard.

A fairly straightforward samurai tale. The game has many characters and its primary problem is lack of focus. In bursts, the individual stories of characters like Ishikawa and Masako hit hard with proper twists and interesting momentum, except this momentum is drip fed over the course of the run time which I think softens the impact overall. Jin's transition from honorable samurai to something he swore he would never become is pretty well done though.

Inside No. 9 - Christmas with the Devil - When the film the commentator is watching turns out to be a snuff film and the commentary actually part of a police interrogation.

It should come as no surprise I'm a huge fan of Tom Waits! This album is excellent front to back. The whole time I feel like I'm trapped in this demented, haunted carnival ride where the main attraction is this barker that combines the lyrical storytelling of a Bob Dylan with the psychobilly of The Cramps, the fearless experimentation of The Residents, and the tribal horror ambience of Aphex Twin all wrapped up in a Lynchian fever dream. And yet, all those descriptors don't quite do Waits justice because he's in a league truly all his own.

A decently strong start turns into bland zombie survival fodder; unlike the built-in benefit of the first season seeming fresh and bursting with potential, Season Two holds little twist or mystery to its proceedings. The illusion of choice is more visible than ever as Clementine holds little influence over the plot's direction, and unlike the (deliberate or not) thematic bleakness of the first game's choices not mattering, Season Two's forgettable cast of talking heads and choice death fodder ends up being a "been there, done that" affair. The return of Kenny adds some stakes and tension to the proceedings however, and I will admit the final confrontation stands out as a highlight playing on the player's familiarity with Kenny versus the new, uncertain character of Jane. I'm not going to say this story is a bad one, but it's a played out one, especially being almost 10 years removed from this game's initial release and seeing many adventure games and zombie media just do it better.

It's not really just about making the graphics and controls "bad", it's really an aesthetic choice based on nostalgia and in the specific case of the PSX horror community, perceiving this style as creepier and more mysterious & enigmatic. A lot of these demakes or original projects are presented as lost "what if" stories too and so there's this whole sub-narrative to these games that really place you into that specific era of time once again.

Yeah, super hyped for this. Though I'm worried Telltale is soon going down the same path again with how many projects they have planned or in the works.

The moment-to-moment storytelling in levels is fun to unravel and compelling to uncover with well-realized targets and civilian fodder alike with even the tiniest of details not going unnoticed; the overarching story? A mess of cheesy, boring spy clichs that is unbecoming of both the game it's in and the psychological darkness that came before in the series.
