I def understand why Lym is hated on, she certainly isnt a great character by any means, and by the end of the game she was doing damage in the hundreds when the rest of my team was doing multiples of ten thousand. But shes the only character that has any growth, the only character that ever cracks a joke, and she also might be the only character who doesnt completely defy common sense and act like an idiot to further the plot. She also has the drawing on the ship scene which is legit p cool.

Reimi is like, almost everything that's wrong with the game. Shes moody, jealous, clingy, and besides one scene where she decided to take over for edge as captain, she doesnt ever show any sort of strength. Every cut scene is hampered down with Reimi saying some emotional speech that didn't need to be said, or Reimi saying "Wait do you mean....(proceeds to reexplain what was just said)"

I just found out 2 isnt even on the psn shop so thats a big bummer. I doubt I'll ever play 5 because the characters look like they came from a game maker jrpg template.

Honestly all the games are similarly good and bad in their own way. 3 has the best characters, 1 is inoffensive across the board, 4 has a pretty fun battle system.

Just beat the second to the last boss.

Considering the last boss made me use almost my entire inventory and I barely won, and two levels higher, this boss made me us 4 blackberries before he died, seems like the difficulty is not super balanced

You get shipwrecked on Earth, 1957 which has all sorts of cool possibilities for companions A classic earth cyptoid, a roswell type alien, even just a typical 1950s Americana themed human but instead the game is just like "nah this is where you pick up a random half naked catgirl"

Look I mean theres def bad game design leaking from every orifice in this game, the characters are inconsistent and nonsensical (one moment the main character is acting surprised that a crew member wants to join him on the mission they are already on. the next moment the same guy invites a 4 year old girl to leave her village and fight monsters with him without even pausing to hesitate. ) The battles are repetitive, and enemies range anywhere between impossible to get hit to impossible to avoid getting hit. The boss battles are like a half hour long. The dungeons are basically hallways with room, and after a battle its genuinely hard to tell which direction you were initially heading down the hallway.

But weirdly, everything kind of comes together and works out in this weird campy ass space story. Theres just so much to laugh about in each scene, the exploration is on par with SO3, and the pickpocket mechnic is absolutely brilliant. Being able to steal one coin of money from a crying little kid in a village is a stroke of genius.

Thanks to ltm for suggesting this, Im only on the fourth planet but I am 100% sure this game won't go downhill.

The series is like 90% unchanged. The parts that have changed (types, special/nonspecial, eggs) are all explained more thoroughly than anything in r/b was, so theyre still simpler games than the one that captured the hearts of millions of children.

Millions of 8 year olds played pokemon r/b without any of the baby features they added, without the actual mechnics needed to be dumbed down, and the game is still widely regarded as extremely easy.

Who would making the game easier be for exactly?

I mean I guess time will validate me and when the next mainline Pokemon game has all the same issues as this one, people might understand why I'm trying to encourage people to be critical about this game's flaws while the next is still in development.

Doesn't mean that a game shouldn't be criticized, particularly when so many of the bad things in this game are bad things that people hated in past core games

Hand holding, dumb nonsensical pokemon restrictions, ignoring older fanbases, cut scenes that drag on and on to explain things everyone knew about pokemon for the past 30 years.

Jesus christ, you arent even allowed to face Brock unless you have a water or grass type in your team.

It would be one thing if they were trying something bold and new to be experimental, but theyre literally doing the opposite.

I bought Zestria and it was the worst purchase I ever made (pending how bad SO4 is)

Its somewhere between lunar dragon song and eternal sonata for just worst everything in a JRPG.

I would recommend against playing it even if you got the game for free.

Beseria however does everything right to such an extent its mind boggling. Characters are fun, story is good, gameplay and extra features are fun. Its probably one of the most well crafted jrpgs since the original xenoblade. I was floored that a tales game good even be that good.

I definitely appreciate that, and I'm glad you pointed it out, but my ultimate goal is not to be the premier source of language learning, but a supplemental sugar pill to the whole process. Language learning is a multi pronged attack, and Im trying to be the farmer in the back of the battlefield waving his pitchfork. I def wont do the most damage but I want to get a few good stabs in.

I mean from the sound of it, I just need to workshop my material a bit. I would like my stuff to be easy to watch, something that you don't have to think too hard about, but you still pick up an odd phrase or character here and there. Thats why I want my episodes to be around 5 minutes, they should be popcorn to the main course.

The idea is to teach people the basics of chinese radicals with handy pnemonics under the (somewhat) guise of not knowing chinese.

It probably sounds stupid if you're not familiar with chinese, but the truth is theres hundreds of radicals you need to learn to understand thousands of characters, and most educational sources don't really give you the tools to remember them all. My hope is that a dopey american poorly explaining them is a good way to make them stick in your mind better.

This game does A LOT right, but towards the end I couldn't help but realizing that everything this game does well is a stolen feature from either harvest moon, rune factory, or animal crossing. Every feature is super well polished, but none of them feel... Interesting or groundbreaking.

I mean obviously the harvest moon series has been stagnant for decades, and a game that simply get features right is a welcome change of pace, but I just couldn't help but feel unsatisfied toward the end of the game. Everything worthwhile can be done within two years, and toward the end of the two years I was neglecting my farm and sleeping in every day. I had all the money I needed, all the townspeople were at max hearts (except maru, but I wasnt getting out of bed just to give her a battery pack)

Villagers were mostly boring, there didnt seem to be a huge incentive to raise them to max hearts. I thouht being able to befriend korbo and the cave troll was cool, but at the end of the day I didnt get anything but more hearts on a picture.

In harvest moon 64, all the villagers you befriend come visit you on your evaluation day and throw a big party, it makes it worth it, because seeing everyone come to the party with unique dialogue is why you befriend people like the guy who ships your crops. In rune factory you get to bring villagers with you when theyre at max hearts. I know they played these games, because soo much was borrowed from them.

Also barring NPCs from marrying each other is dumb. I get they left that open so the pc can marry whoever they want without starting a new game, but the game needs replay value.

Don't get me wrong, it was a super fun game in the first year. And once I found some fun ways to game the system I was pretty proud of myself. But it was just so darn shallow it was hard to even enjoy things like decorating my farm, because I knew I wouldn't be playing for much longer.

So it looks like people are hitting back the second they hear vagina, which is pretty understandable. I probably would too. I wavered on whether to go blue but I was pretty proud of the script I put together. I talked to a lot of native speakers and I was really surprised how much looking like a penis and looking like a vagina is a hot take. As far as I can tell, Im the first person to see as a butt. Future episodes will have less genital humor, so this isn't a huge concern to me.

When I self critique, I can see toward the end of my video I become a little less awkward and stiff. What I previously thought of as me doing "dry humor" seems to just come off as me looking nervous. I also think I failed to explain a lot of characters more basically in the interest of speed (I dont even say what means, which totally makes the joke very confusing to anyone who doesn't already know chinese) I def don't want to be a channel that spends too long explaining anything, but I will focus on explaining more basics in the future.

Also, I said my name wrong at the beginning of the video so thats cool too.
