Sharla is such an amazing character, in most RPGs she would shine as best in the cast. She's the worst in xenoblade too, and also there's almost a shame in using her since the game has so many more unique ways to play that dont require a party healer like sharla

Agree with all of this. I think the key thing is that he's treated as a real character who is part of the crew, not just their funny furry mascot. Scenes like this one really elevate him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CkmqO2y_7w

But in general he's just fun. The game never overplays the jokes, and it knows when to have him act more serious. He has a fully established personality, and it helps that he has specific relationships with all the rest of the cast (Riki/Melly's friendship is really good!). And his VA is outstanding. If only more JRPGs took their cue from Xenoblade...

Aw I just realized the music in this scene is the heropon music in music box form. God this game is great. I'm on my 4thish playthrough and I'm still blown away by how good it is

Legends looks v bad, but happy game freak is trying something new

D/P remakes look... ok? The fact they don't have pokemon following you kinda shows that this isn't going to be a high energy remake. But if it means we get a remake with new pokemon/ on par with the original it will be better than something like let's go, which was unfinished and buggy and worse than the original in every conceivable way

Woody Allen and Louis Ck are good examples of "I'm not sure how no one saw this coming" where their work is extremely autobiographical in talking about how they're f'ed up in the specific ways that they are and kind of the world view that lead them there. Like I've never looked at a woody allen movie and thought of his protagonists as anything other than cautionary tales (except maybe bugs life)

People in power do messed up things and I feel like this has always been true and it makes me surprised when we find someone who has power that didn't mess up more than someone in power who beefed it hard. Lolita is a good example of why I can still enjoy their art despite what they've done, because it's almost a very clear road map to the paths in life you want to avoid. It's also kind of a way to see the remaining humanity in people who have done horrific things, which I would argue has value in fiction.
