Pro-tip: It turns out better when you disavow racists instead of being a big ole coward about it.

First of all, I do disavow racists, and I said a many times I don't agree with their political views, and if all the personal anedoctes are true, it's disgusting. I publically and unequivocally disavow all forms of prejudice.

With that said I'm certainly not a coward. I continue to stand by my initial statement which is anyone can join my communities so long as they behave themselves. It's a cryptocurrency board/discord, as long as they chat about Crypto and not politics I'm not gonna act. I made a commitment to moderating those communities fairly, and that's what I'll do no matter how unpopular that decision is.

Furthermore, I don't think you know what the word "coward" even means. I had this entire board and most of GameFaqs on my ass, including some mods, because I refused to ban them. People still follow me around and harass me due to this decision. It would be very easy for me to just cave in to pressure and ban them, it would get you all off my butt, and probably bring alot of folks back to the Crypto Community that use to be very active. However, doing so would mean I'd have to go against my own oath I swore to moderate a fair and unbiased community.

I'm not trying to say it makes brave, or it's an admirable trait, but it certainly doesn't make me a coward.

You can call this a false equivalency or whatever. But suggesting that I ban Tails & Shadow from the Discord, a community located off of GameFaqs servers, for things they said & did while here...it doesn't make any sense. That would be like someone getting banned from Twitter, and then those admins sharing their banlist with Facebook & Reddit.

That's not how the world does or should work.

Edit: with that said, my personal stance on the duo has indeed changed. I was shown enough evidence to doubt their credibility. I no longer seek to associate with them on a personal level, or seek to defend or make sense of their previous GaneFaqs behavior. Adding @Machete to the mod team and setting up an alternative Discord was part of the rebuilding process.

Didn't you spend a whole topic defending Tails82 and other racists who are banned on GameFaqs?

That seems to be what people took away from that. But no, I did not. I spent those topics defending my own crypto board & discord channel.

There was a topic where someone claimed my community board & discord channel was a MAGA hangout run by Tails & Shadow. I chimed in and let them know that it wasn't, because those communities belong to me.

There were then a bunch of users somehow trying to prove otherwise, and when they realized they were mistaken conversation shifted to how come I don't ban them from my communities. My answer then is still the same now, in that they don't misbehave or break any rules within my crypto communities...they just talk about crypto currency.

The next 300 posts or so was me defending that stance from all comers. But no, I don't defend Tails or Shadows racist views or stance on politics.

From what people have shown me, we are polar opposites on those issues, and if all the personal anecdotes users have shared with me are true I'm actually quite disturbed, and disgusted. If any of those things were said within my crypto communities I would openly condemn them and take Swift action. But, they simply haven't been, the duo (along with caution, another controversial user) behave.

It's also worth noting that following that topic I added @Machete as a moderator to prevent any similar instances from happening. He knows users better than I.

But the damn board died anyhow. The Tails/Shadow thing really soured people on the board and at least 50% of our traffic left. BTC is pumping now, so we are trying to rebuild.

What are we talking about then? I think the swing voters can easily be brought about to the left. I think anyone who isn't a hard right voter can be salvaged, including moderates.

My argument is basically that there seems to be a very loud contingent of people, who share the "you are either with us or against us mentality" and basically don't want to salvage any republican voters. They just want to demonize all Trump voters as the enemy, which doesn't make any sense to me. Because if say 25% of the 74 million that voted for Trump are near the middle, why not just encourage them to jump over the line? Why not welcome them with open arms?

I mean this election was close, and really could have gone any which way. 25% of 74m equates to a potential 14.8 million voters that could possibly become blue. You nab a portion these voters, and when combined with the younger generation aging into becoming registered voters and you basically kill off the republican party. You prevent them from ever gaining power again.

But if you don't try to salvage these voters, and just continue to demonize them, then you push them further down the line to where they are no longer swing voters, and then they truly do become unsalvageable. Then you give the republicans the potential to regain power again.

Are you saying this topic is not refering to people who voted Trump, but actual republican politicians? If so, then fuck no, of course they are not salvageable. They are the reason why the denocractic party should continue to try and sway all of the swing voters, and moderates over to the left. So as to prevent those people from ever regaining power again.

@Tyranthraxus I didn't read this entire topic start to finish, but I do think that the general vibe is that it's talking about people who voted republican, not the actual politicians themselves.

@CyricZ here is my initial write up to your reply. It kind of took on a life of it's own, hence the second post.

Intro
I'm a liberal. I live in San Francisco w/ an undocumented fiance. My family & childhood friends are from Arizona, and are all mostly conservatives. This is a cross between culture, and finances.

My Conservative Family
My stepdad is a straight racist, but my mother converted to conservative, from being a liberal, strictly for financial reasons. She was forced into retirement and her social security, and IRA simply wasn't enough to live off of. She had to get a part time minimum wage job. The basic understanding among older Americans is that the republican party values the older generation who paid their dues, while the democratic party values the younger generation who will become our future.

Does the democratic party actual devalue the older generation...no I don't think so. But that was indeed a marketing difference among the parties. As in, which voting groups they appealed too.

My mom was a hippie, who got disowned by her family for marching in the various civil rights movements of the 60s & 70s. She raised me liberal...she's now a conservative. Is she unsalvageable, definitely not.

My Conservative Friends
Most of my childhood friends are conservatives just because that's how the culture was growing up. A lot of hunting/fishing hillbilly types. But they don't hate gay people or immigrants...hell, a great deal of my Mexican friends growing up in AZ are conservative. The reason why is because they are Catholic, and people of faith. They view the democratic party as not valuing or respecting "freedom of religion" where as republicans do.

This is the same reason that many of my non-mexican friends also are conservatives. They were raised religious. Even if their views on the world (like gay marriage) are more modern than their prior generation views, they are still people of faith. Not only that, but they may want to vote democrat, but the liberal party really demonized the right, and their parents are strictly on the conservative side of the spectrum. So, converting over may cause internal conflict.

This is why I previously stated that we need to look to salvage the other voters, and not demonize them. Because as long as we perpetuate this toxic war...were one side is squarely good, and the other side is squarely evil without any account of nuance...then people who may want to vote left simply wont, as it would place them in conflict with their family/social circles.

Finally, the biggest reason my childhood friends vote right is because they are poor/middle class. As much as environmental & social causes are important, it's hard to care about them when one is having trouble feeding/clothing themselves or their children. I always argue that the left actually cares way more for the low-income members of society...but once again it's all about marketing. The right really markets themselves to this portion of society, the blue collar workers, while the left doesn't seem to make it a priority.

Then of course, because they are poor/middle-class most have ties to the military. Either there is a family member in the military, or a friend. The right really markets itself as valuing this group. The left does indeed value this group, perhaps even more than the right, but just like the middle class, they don't really make it a strong portion of their marketing campaign.

Military members feel isolated, and forgotten. Especially when, because they voted right, they get demonized by the left. It's like "I'm fighting for your rights, and you hate me?" - that is the view alot of my military friends have, and that really sucks.

My Conservative Co-Workers
Beinging in the Crypto industry, the majority lean right for financial/tax reasons. I do think that the vast majority of the Crypto World is very supportive of social issues, and that would typically cause them to mean left, but they simply just don't get the tax breaks thst they are looking for.

A lot if Crypto folks were initially middle-class. They invested early, and gained financial freedom. They feel jaded and abandoned that now because they raised themselves up, the government is trying to push them back down. It's like "I'm all for taxing the forever wealthy, but I just became rich, now you are trying to make me poor again"

A lot of them are making an exodus to Puerto Rico where there is no capital gains tax.

Conclusion
Anyhow, I think all of the above examples (my mom, my childhood friends, and my crypto industry acquaintances) are indeed salvageable. It just starts with understanding why they voted right instead of left, and then addressing those issues. Demonizing them for doing so, and basically saying "we don't want you" is just going to further the divide. Which is just totally unproductive.

Of course individual Republican voters are salvageable, but it has to be done at the micro level, the personal level. No Republican voter will ever respond well to a large group of people telling them what's right or what to do.

Endemic to their ideology is the focus around the small group, the small circle of responsibility. They'll listen to friends, family members, their own direct leaders, but not politicians, generally not talking heads on TV, and not large protesting groups. That kind of message makes them dig in their heels. How could all those other people who they've never met know how they live, and what they want?

There's the impasse, and why it's so slow to get turnaround.

And what to do with the 74 million plus who voted for Trump? Nothing especially, just make sure they don't get to lead others. Because they don't act in the service of others. They act in the service of themselves. We've seen it time and again.

I would send out a survey to all registered voters and ask why they voted the way they did. Get the responses back, and address the legitimate concerns. I think you'd be able to convert alot of them over.

It's a crypto discord. It had nothing to do with politics. The discussion of politics isn't even allowed. But yes, it's very diverse for that reason. If you ban political discussion then the left & right get along quite well actually. Just coming together to discuss a common interest, in this case crypto.

I think the individual game boards would be a much more productive place if the same concept was applied. A ban on all political discussion, whether or not that's where the natural flow of a on topic conversation happens to go. Just close it and redirect the users to the politics board or something.

But I'm a liberal brother. I literally live in San Francisco.

Well I'm going to be the very first person to go against the grain here and say that most republicans are salvageable.

The vast majority of voting republicans are slight right, basically centrists whom voted right instead of left because of a single issue or two that they disagreed with. I do believe that these republicans can be brought over to the blue.

However, in order to do so the democratic party needs to stop demonizing them as a collective whole (like whats being done in this topic) and instead listen to them, find out why they voted right instead of left. Then address theese issues IF, and onlyIF, it is a legitimate concern. If this is done I think that 25-50% of the current republican party can be converted. Of course, the ones without a legitimate concern ("build the wall", "save the children from the gays") should be justifiably demonized.

Here is a question I pose out if curiosity. All of you thus far have stated that republicans are not salvageable, and some of you have stated they are all terrible people that you wouldn't even want to salvage...

...if almost half the adult population voted for Trump, and they aren't salvageable, then what do you want to do with these people? What is your proposition for the 74,222,958 people (48.6% of popular vote) that voted for Trump?

What does America do with this portion of the population if they are not salvageable?

Those are very different statements, though. Its not easy to improve yourself, but you can. You do a little at a time. Could be changing you diet or sleeping habits. Or learning a new skill. Its very different from depression. A depress person cant usually just make themselves happy. But anyone can do something to improve themselves

The only people who cant seem to find females in real life tend to be on this site. Ive never seen stuff like this in real life. Thats why its kind of hard to believe. Ive seen some guys that dont seen that attractive find females. Some with ease, where others have trouble. But not the same trouble as people on this site Also, if it is desperation, thats probably part of the problem. Desperation can be unattractive

And I can really say whether its harder for men or women to find partners. I think the both have trouble for different reasons

That probably because of how it's used. People tell males to swipe right on everybody. And many do. Meaning that a female looking for a males most likely is going to get more swipes since many males (not all, though) follow this rule. Females normally don't, though...

Well, and the fact that there are way more males on the site. I read somewhere it was nine to one. Though, another site says 75.8% male and 24.2% female. In the end, while the more are different numbers on for every survey, one things stays the same. And its that there are way more guys on TinderBasically, females would most likely get more hits just because they have more males to hit on them...

My only feedback is to not moderate people for dhitting all over it.

I thought the first Beta was alright, but I mean, it's change... something good be a 100% improvement, and people will still bitch & moan because it's a very big change to something that's been apart of their lives for decades.

So with that said, you should expect criticism, alot if which will be totally invalid and unwarranted. However, this is just humans acting as humans do. Complaining about the change should not be a moddable behavior, unless in doing so it becomes a major TOS violation.

I somewhat observed some overly emmotional comments and potential backlash from the GameFaqs administration in response to the harsh criticism from the initial launch. My suggestion this time around would be to simply ignore all invalid criticism - as opposed to getting all hot and bothered, and possibly taking action to cull the FUD.
