You're guaranteed to score higher than the person you eliminated, but are guaranteed to get outscored by the person eliminating you.

Tried to come up with an example of a situation where someone eliminates and gets eliminated, this took me like over a fucking hour to think about because I'm stupid so hopefully it's not wrong.

Guy A has 40 points
Guy B has 20 points
Guy C has 25 points
Guy D has 45 points

Match 1 is between p and q, worth 20.
Match 2 is between x and y, worth 20 also.
They all have the same bracket the rest of the way except for these matches:
Guy A picked p and t (eliminated in a prior round)
Guy B picked q and x
Guy C picked q and t (eliminated in a prior round)
Guy D picked j (eliminated in a prior round) and t (eliminated in a prior round)

If p wins match 1,
Guy A has 40 + 20 = 60 points
Guy B has 20 points
Guy C has 25 points
Guy D has 45 points

A wins against B/C/D because the rest of his bracket is the same as C/D so C/D can't catch up, and even if x wins match 2, B will have 20 + 20 = 40 points, which can't catch A. But note that D also eliminates C because 45 > 25. So D eliminated C but also got eliminated by A at the same time.

Just to show that all are still alive prior to match 1...

If q wins match 1,
Guy A has 40 points
Guy B has 20 + 20 = 40 points
Guy C has 25 + 20 = 45 points
Guy D has 45 points

A is eliminated by C/D because the rest of his bracket is the same as theirs so he can't catch up. B/C/D still alive.

Now look at B/C/D's picks for match 2 (x vs y). If x wins, B eliminates C/D. If x loses, C/D eliminate B and finish in a tie.

The damn NES came out in 1985. Either kids voting are too young to remember it so they are just voting based off Game Franchises...in which case it loses terribly bad. I mean if you remove the NES then its Mario, Duckhunt, Excite Bike, and some other random game vs Zelda, Megaman, Castlevania, and Metroid.

Or perhaps nobody knows the NES was released in 1985 because GameFaqs decided to omit it from the damn picture! *face palm*

GameFaqs screwed you over. They don't reference that the NES Famicon was released in 1985, even tho it clearly lists it in the "question mark" section when making your picks.

I too have it going very far. But the image makes it look like Excite Bike vs Metroid, Dukhunt vs Megaman, Space Harrier vs Castlevania, and Mario vs Zelda.

When I chose my picks, I did so very intelligently, by clicking the question mark next to each option and learning about the years. I assumed, what was listed under the question mark would be what was show in the polls. I was wrong. The poll pictures only show games, not systems! For instance, under the question mark for 1995 is listed the NES Famicon as being a new system released that year. So I chose it. Yet, in the poll its shows none of that. It literally looks like Mario and Duckhunt vs Zelda, Castlevania, and Megaman...

Gamefaqs, why list the systems under the question mark to influence our vote if your not going to reference them in the actual polls?

This is "Best Year In Gaming", I would think a new system would trump a new game in terms of relevance....but I guess not.
