Take it from someone who has been stabbed twice.

Odds are overwhelming they are up to no good and even ignoring that, your fight or flight instinct is going to kick in.

If they are in a car, you can't flight on foot. So you're going to fight.

It's comical to go "Well in a reasonable situation you would..." when guys with guns are screaming at you and chasing you in a car.

Yea, I have a fight instinct as opposed to flight. I almost myself in trouble once for beating shit out of a walgreens loss prevention officer who thought I had stolen something (I didn't) and tried to detain me. I ended up walking away free, no charges, while that guy went to the hospital. But it was the logic above that could have gotten me into serious trouble.

Edit: Some context. I was browsing a busy Walgreens in downtown San Franciso, and saw that some Cadbury Easter Eggs were on sale for only 10 centz each. So I grabbed two of em' and waited in line. The line was super long, it would have taken like 15 minutes to check out...and for two items that cost less than a quarter. So I just tossed them in one of the nearby bins and walked out of the store. As I walk out of the store a 6ft 300lb fat dude that was dressed in baggy cloths, and wearing gold chains hopped in front of me and put his hand on my chest to prevent me from walking away, and started yelling...dude seriously looked like Heavy D.

It was only a split second reaction time, but it felt like a minute or so where in my head I quickly accessed the situation. This is person I don't know, he physcially assaulting me, and acting aggressive...I don't know why, but he looks like a thug. Is this someone I pissed off in the club the night before, did I accidentally step on his shoes just now and piss him off, is he racist crazy person, am I being robbed --all of these crazy things went through my head, none of which was anything close to "this is walgreens loss prevention."

So, being a trained college wrestler (and in the middle of my MMA career) I instinctually waxed off his arm and hit an arm drag takedown. This caused him to fall flat on his face, and it broke his glasses and busted his nose. He got up in a rage (and rightfully so) and came at me with all intents pointing to the fact that he wanted to kill me. So I beat him down...badly.

Two more guys (much smaller) dressed as thugs came out of the store to attack me - I thought they were his boys, so I ran away. I came back with the cops 10 minutes later, only to find out that they were all "plain clothes" loss prevention officers. They wanted to press charges, even after I proved to them that I didn't steal their fucking dime eggs. They claimed that a normal person wouldn't have reacted the way that I did. That I should have frozen, and awaited further instruction...

...I just said, well, you picked the wrong guy. Police sided with me, and asked if I wanted to press charged against them. I said no, and ended up leaving the store w/ a gift card.

Even in the video where he gets shot, the Mcmichaels stopped their car ahead of where Ahmaud Arbery was running. If he was trying to run away from them, it's pretty sensible to assume he wouldn't be running in the direction of their car.

There was a car behind him too...obviously.

Why are RPG and JRPG separate categories yet you can't find a place for shooters or racing games?

Just going buy where historically the majority of characters nominated within the character battles come from...have you ever seen a racing character nominated?

A private person may arrest an offender if the offense is committed in his presence or within his immediate knowledge. If the offense is a felony and the offender is escaping or attempting to escape, a private person may arrest him upon reasonable and probable grounds of suspicion.

I don't think the citizen's arrest law applies here. The worst Ahmaud Arbery did in this situation was trespassing, which is a misdemeanor and not a felony. They had no legal right to perform a citizen's arrest.

I hope thats true. I do believe that these idiots just wanted a legal excuse to gun somebody down. They didn't even try to run away or flee the country. They murdered somebody, and were 110% certain they'd get off w/ a slap on the wrist.

I still voted "Not Guilty" because I he he will be found as such...but Georgia rule is stupid.

My issue is that the open carry / citizen's arrest combination allowed this to happen (legally). If either of those things weren't allowed, this situation (which I believe is BAD) could not have happened without a law being broken. As it stands, every single person involved could have been not breaking a single law (including if Arbery was not committing a burglary), and yet a person died because of how those laws are set up. It's awful.

Guilty.
Home owner says nothing was stolen. No crime committed. House was open, no doors to break open. No crime committed. No clearly marked trespassing signs. Open construction site not considered a dwelling. No crime committed. Mcmichaels did not immediately see him commit a crime so they had no right to apprehend according to Georgias own citizens arrest law. They are guilty of murder.

I agree, that it should be GUILTY. However, it can't be given Georgia Law. The men had more than enough reasonable suspicion to believe a crime was committed, so Georgia Law gave them permission to take out their guns and go make a citizens arrest.

In this stupid case, since the Father & Son duo believed Ahmaud had committed robbery, once he attacked them and tried to take the shotgun, they had reasonable cause to believe that a criminal was trying to kill them. Therefore, self-defense was justified. Vice versa, Ahmaud has reasonable cause to go after the weapon and indeed kill both the father & son duo because from his POV, there were two random hillbillies w/ shotguns trying to murder him. So basically, it didn't matter who died a killing from either party was legal under Georgia Law.

How terrifying.

I used to do that as a kid. people like to explore partially built houses. and he didn't take anything. their claims of him robbing are false. they didn't find any loot on him. he was just jogging, stopped to look at a house nobody was living in, then moved on. then got murdered.

Yea, I wouldn't have given chase. Doesn't seem to be a point to it.

But, Georgia Law basically outlines a certain set of circumstances that need to happen to justify killing somebody, and they all did. So it results in a "not guilty" verdict...but I do think the law needs to be changed. Citizen's Arrest can not include weaponized restraint. If you are going to pursue a potential criminal w/ the purpose of making a citizen's arrest...if you arent confident in your physical ability to use your hands...then don't do it.

Same thing w/ that racist rent-a-cop from Florida. He chased down some black teenager and tried to arrest him for "suspicious activity." The teen fought back...as he should, why should anybody just accept a random stranger attempting to forcibly place you under arrest...and the rent-a-cop shot him. He was found "not guilty" because the law outlines all the things that need to happen to justify homicide.

The crazy thing, is that in both situations had the victim actually gotten the weapon away from the "arresting citizens" and used it on them - that would also be justifiable homicide. As both could also claim self-defense - stranger (not a cop) pulled out a gun and attacked them.

The dude in the video actually talks about that. had Arbery successfully gotten the weapon away, he could have used it on the men and also claimed "self-defense" and it would have stood. So, it seems to me in a situation like this, when state give their citizens the power to maker arrests given "just cause" that a weapon should NOT be involved.

...if an arresting citizen chooses to bring a weapon with them, and somebody ends up dead, then it's their fault for bringing it because the law SHOULD state that if you can't sue your hands, then don't do it - just call the police.

EDIT: George Zimmerman was the Florida rent-a-cop's name.

...but I don't like Gerogia Law. You shouldn't be allowed to just pull guns out on people for the purpose of citizen's arrest. If you arent confident that you can restrain the person w/ your hands, then just call the police.

If the Dems wanted to win they should have nominated someone who steals a portion of the Republican vote.
