My high school Dutch teacher was super chill. He was always making jokes and he never really got angry about anything. Me and my friends would play cards during lunch break and he'd sometimes join in if he was on hall patrol duty. He also LOVED to gossip and he'd tell us all kinds of stuff about other teachers. And he loved ripping on stupid people. My favorite moment was when we were playing cards with him and he brought up three girls in our class that were always goofing off and would never shut up during class. He was like "I've seen many students over the years, but I don't think I've ever seen a gaggle of brainless bimbo's like those three."

I fucking loved Bionicles. I still have a massive collection collecting dust somewhere. They were perfect synthesis of all my favorite things at the time: LEGOs, action figures, and a sci-fi/fantasy story told through comics. My introduction to online forums was a Bionicle fansite.

Looking back on it, the early years were kinda shit with limited articulation and every figure being a palette swap with a different mask and weapon, but the last few years were magnificent.

To be fair, they were expensive even before they started making licensed sets.

I never bought many LEGO sets, but I did buy a shitton of Bionicles and I felt those weren't all that expensive for what you ended up getting.

Licensing all of those brands like Star Wars, Marvel & DC probably isn't cheap.

You would think he would be talked about more since his methods literally have saved millions of lives.

He definitely should be brought up if they ever go into WW2 medical developments, but that's not an aspect of the war that history classes tend to focus on from my personal experience. I don't know if medical school also has some kind of history course, but surely he must be mentioned there.

Guys, I'm not American. The only American history I was taught in school was the American Revolution and the Civil War. Don't expect me to know every tidbit of American history. It's not relevant for me. Just like how I'm not expecting you to know anything about, say, the Seventeen Provinces and the Eighty Years' War, or who William the Silent was.

These topics seem more relevant for History Channel documentaries than actual history class. Again, I don't know how American history classes operate, but over here, it was divided into blocks covering historical periods that really didn't go into much detail. Like for World War 2, we were taught what led up to the war, how it started, the general flow of the war, some major battles, and the big names involved like Hitler, Stalin, Churchill, Eisenhower etc. We definitely didn't go into specific batallions because there wasn't enough time and it wasn't that relevant in the larger scheme of things. And as for George Washington Carver, inventors generally weren't covered in my history classes unless their inventions were heavily tied into the specific historical period. For instance, I definitely recall the inventor of the guillotine being mentioned during classes about the French Revolution. Or the inventor of the steam engine during the Industrial Revolution.

I don't know what they teach in American history class but over here, it's always been a pretty broad-strokes approach. From what I remember from history class, it went Greeks/Romans -> Dark Ages -> Renaissance -> Golden Age -> American Revolution -> French Revolution -> Napoleon -> Colonization -> World War 1 -> World War 2 -> Cold War.

And he's really not weak in the movies at all. Hell, he's easily the most powerful person present at the airport fight in Civil War. I will admit that Infinity War kinda gimped him, but that's because he got impaled and he spends the rest of the movie injured from it.

I just don't care for the "softness" of modern-day society. Nobody can take criticism any more. Nobody can stomach views that don't perfectly align with their own. Everything has to have the edges taken off so nobody ever faces any sort of setback. Everyone needs a participation trophy. It's fucking ridiculous.

And I'm sure I've had my feelings hurt by words at some point. But the thing is: I have the mental fortitude to not let it shatter my entire world. I just let it slide off my back and move on with my life. It's really not a hard thing to do, but today's participation trophy generation seems to struggle with it something fierce. They either have a complete mental breakdown or go on Twitter to destroy the livelihood of the person that offended their delicate sensibilities.

I don't see why this is such an alien concept to you people. There are plenty of people around the world that left their home countries because they were being persecuted or oppressed and decided to relocate somewhere else where they could live in safety.

This is actual ethnic cleansing. Moving people from one country to another is classic as clear cut ethnic cleansing as it gets.

Just saying, if I was a Palestinian, I would've tried to get out of that situation ASAP. There's nothing to be gained from fighting an unwinnable battle. Just cut your losses and get out at that point.

There's tons of slavery in America. It's just of prisoners. When I worked for the state of Texas, I discovered in horror that all of my office equipment was made by prisoners.

I mean, if they're going to be locked up on the taxpayers' dollar anyway, I'd rather they make themselves useful to society somehow.
