You would rather they wait until after they misgender somebody than just remove the gendered language from the beginning. Why? Saying birthing parent rather than mother changes absolutely nothing about the process or anything other than word usage.
Birthing parent sounds ridiculous and Mother would apply to 99.999% of births so let's just keep it how it is.

No it doesn't and no it wouldn't, so let's not keep medical professionals from doing the right thing just because your ignorant ass doesn't care about the feelings or mental health of trans people.

Because trying to baby-proof an entire language is a stupid and inane task. People are going to be mistakenly misgendered and should expect it. What they should expect alongside that once it is corrected is that people will then not repeat the mistake. Anyone who refuses to do so is an asshole and should be seen as such. We could go through life using gender neutral pronouns for literally every occasion, but that would be a stupid waste of time. There is being polite to people and respecting how they wished to be addressed, and then there is this silly notion that we have to be incapable of offending anyone at all times. The latter is an impossible standard.

See, the problem with this whole dumb little rant of yours is that saying birthing parent instead of mother doesn't actually waste any time, so your argument is actually "I don't want people to do this because it's not what I think of as normal."

and as we all know healthcare is about ignoring stuff that only affects a few people

It just seems surreal to me that you would have language police going around correcting people because of the one in a million chance that the person that is coming in to give birth identifies as a man.

Maybe I'm mistaken but I'd have to imagine most hospitals could go decades without having this hypothetical birthing man walk in the door.

Trying to normalize something unnecessary that only affects a small minority of people and is not required for that minority's acceptance is a waste of time. Being polite and using their preferred pronouns does not require us to then go down some rabbit hole of neutralizing all gendered language on the off-chance that a single individual may at some point be misgendered.

Precisely.

As a nurse, I would feel like absolute garbage if I didn't have the information I needed and misgendered a patient who may be dealing with extreme distress due to the birthing process in and of itself.

I mean how much would you trust a healthcare provider that can't even get your gender correct? I'd be scared af and extremely upset if I were in their place.
Basically this. Patients suffer enough, and it really isn't hard to use different words save the adjustment time. If it helps them feel more at ease then why not?

And little secret. Many places already do similar in asking patients about preferred pronouns etc.

You just saying "it's a waste of time!" for the fifth time isn't actually any more of a coherent argument than it was the first time.

actually we dont have accurate numbers on how many trans men give birth each year because almost all health systems track them exclusively by their birth sex. almost as if we could be more informed by addressing the very issue were discussing now

And people saying it'll stop all of the couple transmen who decide to give birth from being misgendered isn't an argument as to why it's at all necessary. You need to actually have a problem for it to require a solution.

One of my closest friends is a trans man and people misgendering him is a problem whether you give a shit about it or not, so please fuck all the way off with your argument that literally comes down to "there aren't many trans men so who cares?"

Then he should correct them and, if everything is working as it should, they'll then use the proper pronouns. Neither you or he should expect people to go above and beyond that in terms of regular discourse. Something like having a place to list preferred pronouns on a form like someone mentioned a few posts ago is about as far as we should expect it to go.

This is really mainly for healthcare workers and literally none of you work in healthcare. It's not like they're taking your precious words away and you guys are no longer allowed to use "mother" and "father". So you really have no reason to give the slightest shit about this

No seriously, why is that so difficult

What is exhaustingly hard about going "oh ok, I see why that would be bothersome. I'll just use their preferred pronouns" and then going on about your day

What do you think you're challenging here? Is it a pride thing? Do you think your "language is being taken over" or some shit?

Also, it's weird as fuck that you're acting like you've never had your feelings hurt by words ever. You're lowkey roasting yourself
I just don't care for the "softness" of modern-day society. Nobody can take criticism any more. Nobody can stomach views that don't perfectly align with their own. Everything has to have the edges taken off so nobody ever faces any sort of setback. Everyone needs a participation trophy. It's fucking ridiculous.

And I'm sure I've had my feelings hurt by words at some point. But the thing is: I have the mental fortitude to not let it shatter my entire world. I just let it slide off my back and move on with my life. It's really not a hard thing to do, but today's participation trophy generation seems to struggle with it something fierce. They either have a complete mental breakdown or go on Twitter to destroy the livelihood of the person that offended their delicate sensibilities.
