It sounds like ABC is planning to keep 538 around, and honestly I think they can get someone to do a better job than Nate Silver. I don't think he's stupid, but I don't think he's as smart as everyone thinks either.

Honestly, the 538 models are pretty sketchy anyway - the biggest loss is that they just have like really nice maps, especially for house elections which not everyone gets really deep into. But some of the poll aggregation is lol - 538 really let trafalgar swindle them last election. If they go down I would miss the visual aspects of their models, because their stuff is really easy to navigate and look at, but I'm not convinced of the accuracy of their models and I think anyone could do a similar job.

60 million copies is going to include buyers who didn't play the game that much or don't remember it that well too, and like, in most cases it's the kids playing the games

I think that the % of movie reviewers who get the basic fundamentals of the Mario gags in this movie is going to be about the same % of movie reviewers that gave it a positive score - around half of them

I feel like the biggest reason critics don't like this movie is that it's really made with fans of Mario in mind. There's a lot of stuff in this movie that isn't even really properly introduced, just assuming you are already acquainted with the world and the characters in it and their associated gags. I was thinking about the "blue shell" gag, for instance; if you've ever played Mario Kart, you get it, it's a funny little joke/reference. If you've never played Mario Kart, there is absolutely no context to that moment whatsoever, it's just a guy yelling "blue shell!" and attacking. It makes no sense. The movie is rife with that kind of stuff which has to make it a hard watch if you're not invested in the Mario universe. Similar movies don't really have this problem - Sonic 2 for instance has plenty of easter eggs and Sonic-related stuff in it but it tells a fairly traditional story that you don't really need to be previously invested in the universe to get. SMB really foregoes nearly all worldbuilding and normal storytelling in favor of just assuming that you already kind of get it.

I played through it but I just found that there was way too much really boring wandering around for a mystery that was only kinda interesting and had a really weak payoff (I didn't like that the game doesn't acknowledge you when you choose not to indict certain people of crimes)

I didn't say to beat the base game first because of the ending changing, I said to beat the base game first to preserve the momentum of following the original game to its conclusion before going down the rabbit hole of the DLC campaign which is pretty long in its own right. I said this in part because I knew that seeing the ending twice isn't that big a deal, as you alluded to, but you also really didn't need to do the ending twice in the way you did, but it's fine.

Tunic's a good game! I recommend it regardless. It's not really "like" Outer Wilds so I wouldn't go in with that kind of assumption - it's definitely sort of a perpendicular recommendation but that's the only kind I could have for something like this. I don't want to say why it is and is not like Outer Wilds though, just give it a shot.

I wish I knew, but one of the reasons I cherish Outer Wilds so deeply is because it's so unique. The closest thing I can think of would be like, Tunic, maybe. Or even something like The Witness, but that's a completely different thing really.

As someone who's been sitting on the sidelines, I have to wonder why so many people find this low-res game about walking around while things randomly die around you so fascinating. I get that it's cheap, and maybe I should give it a try, but I follow a few indie game news channels and it seems like the phrase of last year that I heard constantly was "Vampire Survivors clone"...which is impressive for a game that also technically came out last year, but it still leaves me completely befuddled as to what drives this subgenre. Is VS really that good?

How easy would it be to jump back in JUST for the DLC? It sounds like you need to re-beat the game after the DLC to get the full experience.

If you can just reload your file then it's very easy to jump into the DLC (aside from figuring out the first step for how to get there)

If you don't have your old file anymore, you'll miss out on a couple of small things if you haven't done certain tasks in the main game, but it's not a huge deal really (just make sure you go learn how to meditate from Gabbro for the love of god)

I think taking Outer Wilds too literally when it's a world where civilizations are made up of like 20 individuals who live on planets about the size of a Home Depot is probably a mistake

Doing the DLC first is fine, I just think it's momentum killing to do it before finishing off the main game haha

You have to remember, to his dedicated base, the election was stolen - he never "fumbled" it at all. He's built his entire brand on the idea that he's a winner even when he's a loser, and because the GOP and Fox News continue to sell the narrative that the election was stolen, the republican base will always want to give him the salty runback at the election because they consider him the rightful winner. It's gonna take a concerted effort by the Republican apparatus to break this narrative because they've already spent so much effort reinforcing it.
