Topic"meninists" were fucking stupid, and here's why
MrMallard

So "meninists" were always a bunch of garbage babies. Let's get that out of the way. If you bought meninist merchandise to sock it to those libruls or whatever the fuck, if you bought a meninist hoodie to "trigger some SJWs", then you were a sucker. The """"movement"""" was a sham, both financially and ideaologically.

But let's put all of that ideological stuff to the side. "Meninism" was stupid from the ground up - it falls apart at the name.

So it aims to lampoon feminism by adding "men" in place of "fem", turning a women's rights term into a men's rights term. Feminism is derived from "feminine", which is a standard we use to judge personal qualities as "female" - we consider certain behaviours, looks or other traits as being suited for women more than men.

So by all means, the male equivalent should have been "masculism" - taking the basic naming scheme of feminism and using "masculine" in its place.

I know folks just want to shitpost and "trigger" the left, but meninism was low tier bait and just a low IQ meme. If anyone had any genuine intentions with meninism - which I don't think anyone did - they would have used their fucking brain and not lazily slapped "men" on top of a pre-existing term. It's as low IQ as "Blue Lives Matter" - oh, how clever, you lampooned "Black Lives Matter" to support the police in opposition to BLM's demonization of the police force. Good job you clever little satirist, here's a gold star.

I disagree. A bad ending can ruin anything.

This never made sense to me. I can't take back the joy I felt for every point before the ending. That happened. You can't unfeel it.

I've had an absolutely garbage ending ruin a game for me, but I will say that even considering MGSV as the worst Metal Gear game in terms of story, I don't regret picking the game up at launch for the full retail price. It's a hit and miss process for me.

Like if people disliked an ending to an otherwise great game, and they remaster it, it would be awesome if the game stops in its tracks and veers in a totally different direction. Like give folks the option to enjoy the original ending, but just throw in a whole new ending to the game.

It's not viable, but it would be fucking awesome.

It is pretty bangin'. I kind of like XIII's because of the violins, but I think X's is my favorite of the regular battle themes in the series.

If we're including boss themes though, then Battle on the Big Bridge wins hands down. Nothing can hold a candle to Battle on the Big Bridge.

MrMallard
11/30/18 1:06:41 AM

Like it's good to offer more bang for people's buck and build hype, but additional stretch goals always fuck up a perfectly good Kickstarter. Like there's almost always a 2-3 year gap between the projected release date of a Kickstarted game and the eventual release date if the game added like 20 stretch goals - physical boxes, art books, additional game content, design-a-character contests etc. They have to pour more costs into fulfilling these new goals, and the game gets neglected as a result. And after all the stretch goals have been realised, there's rarely enough money to pour into the game itself, or at least to polish it to an acceptable level.

Mighty No. 9 - game fucking sucks, the art style changed a bunch before the game launched. The team had like 20 stretch goals, including the ever-present Inti-Creates retraux minigame.

Bloodstained - fell into a similar trap. Inti-Creates game came out first, the team has changed a bunch, the Kickstarter capitalised on stretch goals to secure more funding. We have David Hayter on board for some voicework, but the team has had to bring other game development studios into the fold to work on the game like 3 years after the project entered development.

Tons of board games, like the Kingdom of Loathing tabletop game, end up going under or under-delivering because they do too many booster pack or additional card stretch goals. They fund like 4 bonus decks, but then the original box design isn't able to house all the new cards, so they have to scrap the old boxes and pay for bigger ones... eventually, all the money is gone and they can't possibly meet demand, let alone get the game to all of the backers.

For a Kickstarter to be successful, I think they need to be more moderate with their stretch goals. Keep the number of stretch goals to like 5, and make sure that the outcomes of these goals can be added to the main product with relatively little fuss. Offering DLC and additional content/quests? Keep it reasonable, and don't be shy about extending the development time if need be. Or work on the main game and add the stretch goal content once the main game goes gold, or when the game is playable from beginning to end with a few missing aspects. Offering physical rewards? Again, focus on the main project before you secure the stretch content and aim for items that are affordable. Don't go for 10+ additional items like a physical box and cloth maps and stuff like that, because paying for all that is going to drain your coffers.

There are a lot of different aspects that can lead to a Kickstarter's failure, but I think that an underrated issue with the process is with developers who promise way too much additional content. While you're scrambling securing additional talent and paying for all of these bonuses, you're losing money to develop the main game with. This leads to development hell, and the lack of focus on the main project ends up killing it in the long run.

I wish that game Kickstarters would just be content with the funding that they get. You don't have to keep gilding the lily with additional crowd-pleasers, take the money that you have been blessed with and maybe offer some reasonable bonuses - but make sure you can focus all of the attention and funding on the main product instead of drowning yourself in additional fiddly crap.

I did say that this garbage sub-group have been rolling for a while, but they've only been "exposed" on Tumblr for a relatively short period of time. That's my experience anyway, I only saw the discourse posts a couple of months ago. They could have been active for years beforehand for all I know.

I'm just writing what I know from using the platform, this is the information that's perpetuated around there. Folks have been dissatisfied with Tumblr's handling of NSFW and blatantly illegal shit for a while now, I know that much - it's only now that the app has been delisted that Tumblr has come down to sort this shit out.

There's been a really big pornbot issue lately, it's been really bad for the last couple of years but it's been especially bad in the last two or so months. The Tumblr app was actually unlisted on the Google Play Store and the App Store due to the porn bot problem.

A few regular, chill people have been losing their accounts - the "Tumblr purge", as it's been christened, seems to strike kind of randomly. There's an option to contact the staff, and it's worked for some folks, but others have been waiting for a response for like a week or more. I follow this artist girl who's friends with a popular blog named polyglotplatypus, and they've basically lost a friend because Tumblr hasn't gotten back from reviewing the account. Things are certainly interesting.

Honestly, I think the purge is for the best. There's a lot of moderate and chill content on Tumblr, even with its more extreme content like batshit crazy Sherlock/Voltron/Steven Universe fans or whatever - but there's also a lot of shit going on, and there are some extraordinarily shitty groups of people on the platform. 2018 alone has seen a sharp increase in hatred towards asexual/aromatic people, and there's been a subgroup on the platform who stayed hidden for ages before the Tumblr discourse caught up with them - MAPs.

What is a MAP? It's a Minor Attracted Person. AKA a fucking pedophile.

Tumblr is a goddamn mess, and it has been for a while - even before this recent porn bot and pedo problem. I can only hope that this Tumblr purge business scrubs a majority of the website's hateful and morally reprehensible content away, because when it isn't this level of fucked up, it is honestly a decent platform - I've surrounded myself in decent, funny content for years, and made friends through the platform over mutual interests. Even with the raving lunatics, I would say that it's the friendliest social network to be involved with. So hopefully the website survives and manages to purge the most abhorrent and illegal happenings from the website, because I would hate to see the platform as a whole go up in smoke. I would be losing a good handful of friends in the process.

TopicOrganized religion is predicated on fear, change my mind.
MrMallard
11/29/18 2:12:50 AM

I would argue that it's not just fear - organised religion is inherently tainted by human evil. Like there's nothing holy about those fucking megachurches in America, with like heated seats and giant LCD screens and shit, where these shitty southern pastors echo their interpretation of the Lord's word through a $5000 stereo system. And you have these tall, old buildings that are tax exempt, which expects a "tithe" from members of the church which is like a percentage of your salary - it doesn't sit right with me. Like there's nothing wrong with modern day comforts and luxuries, or having a place to gather, but I find it really gross how churches exist to secure funding from its small base of dedicated followers and to show off all of this old, intricately made and probably super expensive religious paraphernalia that you don't really need to have faith.

There have been a few churches in my town that are much more contemporary and casual, I can respect that - but I find it disrespectful for folks to go bigger and grander and more expensive with their churches, as if any amount of gold leaf is going to satiate their lord and saviour. It's tacky.

And you have these awful people using religion as a shield for racism, discrimination and continued ignorance - because a lot of churches are just personal interpretations of the Lord's word, biased by the personal mindset of the preacher or clergyman delivering the message and by the community of people who frequent the church and internalise/spread its message. A church and it's constituents are ultimately a reflection of the community around it, meaning that if your base consists of deeply entitled people who think "I have the Lord on my side, so I can do what I feel is morally just in his name" or who are deeply racist and believe in the inferiority of other races (and that only you and others like you are worth anything), then your branch of Christianity is going to be twisted or exploited to further those flawed human ideals. All that a church does is bring like-minded people together to share similar beliefs, and a lot of human biases and evils get thrown into the mix as well.

If you abide by the teachings, then you know that Jesus was dirt poor and he slummed it with people who society considered undesirable - and his story of martyrdom and religious oppression is propagated by a city-state that's full of knowledge and wealth that is hoarded and accessible to only the religious elite. I find something excessive and disgusting about that, like a corporation using a gay teen's story of homophobia and eventual suicide to sell cookies or some shit like that. Sell a struggle to elicit emotions from others and exploit that for monetary gain and societal power.

A place of worship can be a crack in the wall under an overpass, with maybe a candle or two to mark its presence. Religion is a personal conviction that you weather through rain, hail and shine, and all religion, ultimately, is knowledge and belief - most of the rest is just window dressing. Knowledge and belief is all you need to be a good Christian. But when you bring a power structure into it, and a structure or place of worship that's unique to your religion, into the mix? That's when things start going downhill. Once it becomes an organisation, then it's become tainted by human evil. They'll use fear, ignorance, greed and vanity to hold a base of blindly devout fans, and they'll tax them for their servitude. As soon as religion is given a standardised form or pattern to follow, that's when the corruption starts.

Religion, in theory, is good. But human intervention and the interpretation of said religion by a "higher" person to "lower" followers is where evil begins.

Don't enforce God in a state-funded public school, but let kids have their faith and feel free to bring it up as a means of education - alongside other religions to give a broader scope to the discussion. If you're going to give some kid a detention because he doesn't play along with your Christian power fantasy and tell you a Bible verse, then you should get the fuck out of the public sector and join a Catholic school.

I don't hate leaks entirely, the Fallout 4 leaks were really cool, but I dislike leaks like uploading the Smash Ultimate ROM to the internet early. We knew that Smash was releasing in December, and we were one day away from learning the official names of Sun/Moon - we can wait for this shit. Fallout 4 was shrouded in secrecy until like 5 months before launch, and the leaks came off the back of an ARG hoax that left a lot of folks bitter.

it was just a term used to describe "love shy" men

some bad people hijacked the term. yea originally it was supposed to just mean a virgin. but some people now think it means "virgin that hates women and minorities and wants to kill people"

I mean the term refers to guys who feel like society has failed them and is leading to their lack of sex. They're involuntarily celibate, meaning that they don't want to be this way - they get together and commiserate about how no woman will so much as look at them. These environments become breeding grounds for bitterness and hatred towards women and a society that they see as failing them. The whole concept is entitled.

Incels have provided the outside world with every reason to dislike them based on their behavior. Maybe it was something innocent once upon a time, but the "virgin that hates women and minorities" stereotype is inseparably connected to the term incel for a good reason. They've become rotten.

We have a PM who voiced disapproval at legalising gay marriage, who has since made statements supporting school principals who want the right to expel gay students from Catholic schools specifically for being gay. Earlier this year we had another PM who has become categorised as the PM who did nothing but keep his head down and pay basic lip service to his political party. Our PM before that was a loud-mouthed fuckwit who scaremongered about refugees and this "budget crisis", who A) ran on a platform of "Stop the Boats" despite most illegal immigration taking place via air travel, and B) spat in the face of the Australian people by paying $9 billion on fighter jets for "border security" while telling us that the country was out of money thanks to the political party in power before him.

That political party is now shaking itself to pieces with in-fighting. You know how I said we as a different prime minister this year? This wasn't an election year. A band of politicians got together and challenged his leadership, and the winner of an internal vote replaced him. This is our 2nd prime minister in a row to have come to power this way.

What I want to see out of my nation's politicians is some basic human decency and support for each other, and I want them to work for the interest of the people. Our conservative government wouldn't put out a vote on whether we should legalise gay marriage, we only got to that point because the Labor Party lobbied for it and stood behind it when it became a contentious public issue. Our government then changed the method of voting something like four times, scrapping a relatively cheap mail-in vote system for a $185 million plebiscite. We paid a wholly unnecessary $185 million to express the opinion that yes, two dudes or ladies who bone down with each other should be allowed the same legal right of marriage as all of the P-in-V folks, when we could have expressed the exact same message in a far cheaper way.

We have politicians who operate in a way that's completely counterintuitive to the will of the people who they work for. Our minister of Agriculture, Barnaby Joyce, spent thousands of tax dollars on private transportation and accommodation, like holidays and shit, by billing it as business expenses. Tony Abbott, the PM who blew 9 billion bucks on fighter jets, used a five figure sum to fly him and several close associates to a wedding - they attended the wedding of Australia's richest woman on the public's dime. We had a mass exodus of politicians this year because they lied about their citizenship, I think like 12+ politicians were forced to resign over that. We've seen time and again, from our politicians, behavior that flies in the face of what the Australian people want. We've seen politicians say one thing and do the exact opposite thing for years.

Wouldn't it be nice if there were politicians who were outgoing and transparent about how much money they spend, if they actually sat down and discussed what they were doing and why they were doing it? Wouldn't it be good if our politicians - these people who are elected to work on behalf of the people - would enact legislation that improved our day to day lives and actually worked for us in visible, tangible ways? Things happen from time to time, NSW got a Return and Earn program that pays money for recycling empty bottles, but for the last decade it feels like nothing much has really changed. We weathered the global economic crisis, legalised gay marriage and received two prime ministers who we didn't vote for. That's what sticks out to me. And we keep getting fed the same shit every single day. We need politicians who represent us and work for our interests.

tbh art is art, calling some things 'true' or 'fake' art is weird

Like someone smearing human faeces onto a canvas, that's an artist making art. But a beautifully intricate meter tall painting of a castle is just as much a piece of art as shit-guy's poop art.

Art is not a synonym for "quality".

I really like the support in this game, Grohk and that wood guy seem like the way to go for me. I'm busting folks up with Grohk and keeping the team healed with totems, it's great

I think there's a 5%-10% chance it'll flop. I think it's gonna be fantastic, personally.

Yep, this game knows how to ping that little dopamine buzzer in my brain. I just turned the game off to unwind, and I can't get that main menu theme out of my head.

I've played a few characters so far. I liked the little goblin dude, I had a lot of trouble with that mage healer guy and I've settled nicely into using Grohk. I've played 1 TDM, a Siege game and 2 Onslaught matches.

It's honestly pretty fun, it's scratching my hero shooter itch so far.
