I'm gonna stay on the platform until it dies the shitty death that it deserves.

Tumblr has had its freakouts in the time I've spent there. Mishapocalypse, the Yahoo buyout, Dashcon, the entirety of Homestuck - and most recently, the NSFW ban. So when Tumblr gives its inevitable 2 weeks of notice, the party that goes down is going to be fucking insane. That alone is worth staying on the site for.

I've also made some really good friends through the platform who have been around for as long or longer than I have - Tumblr is the ideal platform to keep seeing them around. I have an old Tumblr friend on Facebook because they left the platform, and I never speak to them any more despite really liking them as a person - a lot of these interpersonal relationships are dependent on Tumblr to function properly because this is the format that we're used to.

So like a bunch of folks are migrating off site, but I'm staying put personally. Last I heard, people are joining this platform called Pillowfort, but I'm just waiting for the inevitable callout posts and "Pillowfort makes $x per user depending on how much they post, and they keep all of it for themselves" posts and shit.

I mean, if y'all think God of War 2018 is linear, you should play a God of War game from before 2013. You go through a section, beat up enemies, get an item, unlock a door, go somewhere new and lock yourself out of the old area. There are parts where you get to double back and revisit old areas, but you're still locked out of a lot of the area from before and you're just there to unlock another path to somewhere new.

God of War 2018 isn't exactly open world to my knowledge, but fucking lol if folks think that it's linear. You're directed from point A to point B like any video game, and it's not as open as a Fallout or Elder Scrolls game, but there's a lot of leeway, there's side content and you can backtrack infinitely more than you could in just about any God of War title beforehand.

I was the most butthurt person on this board when the trailers came out, I thought it was trying to put lipstick on a pig - make a le deep Darks Souls inspired combat game out of a perfectly fine series of schlock. I hit the character limit talking shit about how I thought the game was going to have a cheap and insulting bait and switch where we play as the kid - I hated the very idea of this game. I came within a hair's breadth of betting my account that it was going to be a shit show.

Then it came out, and I watched my friend play it. And honestly? It's pretty tits. It's got respect for the earlier games, and it moves forward with an emotional story that actually fucking works - in a God of War game! I've come around completely on it as an absolute non-believer.

If you feel differently, then that's fine - but I thought it would be worthwhile to chime in as someone who fucking dogpiled on this game from its reveal onwards.

That news article mentions some bullshit where he like evangelises for Heterosexual Pride Day or some shit, he's gotten buttmad about like Reddit not giving him a platform so he did an AMA on 8chan or 2chan, one of the especially bad ones - and a couple years ago, he expressed regret at selling Mojang and he whined about none of his old friends in the company talking to him any more, and how even though he goes to all these awesome parties in Ibiza and has all this money, he's never really fulfilled and he feels hollow and sad inside.

I actually kind of sympathized with him on that last part, only to the point where petty riches don't lead to emotional fulfillment, but even back then my outlook was "ofc no one at Mojang talks to you, you sold them to Microsoft for millions of dollars". Though there's probably a lot of nuance that my statement misses in the process.

One of our generation's biggest games, with a global reach and wide demographic, was made by a fucking redpilled neckbeard - and now that he doesn't have anything to do with the product that made him a household name, he shitposts about anti-white conspiracies and plays the victim when he entertains platforms full of avowed white nationalists and pedophiles. He's an asshole and I hope that his lack of relevance eats him alive.

I'm on like episode 41 of Half in the Bag.

I like their cold opens and framing devices and shit, they know that it's just some stupid schlocky bullshit and they kind of phone it in, but there's a genuine passion for what they're doing and they put in enough genuine effort that it all really comes together. Like they're trying to look like they don't give a shit when they do, but in equal measures or something. Compare a Half in the Bag framing device with a YouTuber like Caddicarus or like Channel Awesome - RLM has their shit together.

I clicked on their Freddy Got Fingered RE:view video, and they made a very solid point that it's like Tom Green giving the studio the finger and blowing all the money on stupid inane shit. I never saw the movie that way, and I fucking lost it a few times when they showed off a few scenes and applied that lens to it. It's fantastic. Or maybe I saw their Jack and Jill episode of Half in the Bag first. I dunno.

Vinny from Vinesauce has been blowing their horn for years, and I recently heard Dan Avidan mention them as well - but I never took the plunge myself. Now I finally have, and I fucking love it.

I don't know why people call for Sakurai to be fired because he didn't cave to their bullshit gamer wet dream - it's literally just a fun party-style fighting game.

I don't get the hype, is what I'm saying. But it's aight. Very polished, and there's a metric fuckton of single player content which I like.

I'm glad that you liked it. I'm down with visual novels in general, and I wasn't sure how I would take to DDLC's spin on it - but it was a very gutwrenching and emotional game that lampooned VN tropes and traits while also being very true to them. I feel like it's very much a homage made from a place of love.

If you'd be interested in fanfiction at all, I found one called Doki Doki Murder Club. Monika gives all of the girls omnipresence and the ability to rewind time and stuff, and they all take turns murdering the protagonist. Some of the deaths are 10/10, just some of the most unpleasant and grisly endings possible - and the creepiness of Yuri's chapter is amplified tenfold by running it through a text to speech generator.

The only movie I haven't heard about is this Marwen one. Bumblebee has the full force of Transformers' most popular character, Mary Poppins Returns could go either way, The Mortal Engines has the LotR fan appeal with Peter Jackson, Into the Spiderverse looks fantastic and is sure to be a holiday hit with kids (because who doesn't love Spiderman?), and while I don't think Aquaman is going to do particularly well, it has a base of fans that has defended one of the decade's worst superhero movies - so I don't think that it could possibly put the final nail in the DC movies coffin.

I've heard of each of those movies, but this Welcome to Marwen one? I haven't got a goddamn clue about what's up with this flick. That tells me that it hasn't been marketed as heavily, and it probably hasn't reached as large of a viewer base as the rest of your list. Looking at it like that, I think this will be the movie to fail.
