AJ was probably the worst woman's wrestler of all time that wasn't regarded as one. Character work and in the ring

I think she could have been good if someone gave her a direction that suited her strengths instead of "sure you can wrestle like CM Punk cause you like him even though your strikes look like garbage and you're 90 lbs" and "sure you can pretend to be a crazy person cause you like Harley Quinn even though you're not convincing at all in the role"

Give her a submission based moveset (her octopus lock was pretty good) and make her play a cocky heel (which is what she did anyway while throwing in random crazy looks in there CAUSE SHE'S CRAZY) and she would've been pretty okay.

Only Roman spear I can remember liking was the one in that Survivor Series match where he actually did nearly kill Shane McMahon. Which may be one more spear than Edge has done but I think inconsistent is very generous.

Yeah, this is what I was talking about when I said I actually like it as the strongest pick for a lot of bosses. Beowulf and Cerberus for example I find way easier having that function. Even moreso than having a strong dodge.

They're performing a play to try and trick a kidnapper like where's the emotional resonance supposed to be. I guess excitement is kind of an emotion and the scene is kinda exciting but I somehow don't think that's what you're getting at when you say "emotional impact"

Well I experienced it at the time and I can't say that's necessarily all of it because yeah it's just a thing among dozens of better scenes in the game for me. I don't dislike it or anything and it is memorable, but any reaction more passionate than "yeah that was a cool part of the game" is beyond me.

Well I could say which one I like better but not in a way that I could presume to recommend a wine to someone who actually appreciates fine wines

Like to put it another way I'm sorta on that level with Awakening vs Birthright on gameplay

Birthright's gameplay should be considered better because the unit balance and skill balance are better and the multiclassing is better implemented and pair up isn't broken

But I think if you've got braindead killing field maps like in Awakening and Birthright I'd rather just have the ability to make super broken units like in Awakening.

But I wouldn't say "well they're both equally bad" I'd say "well I like Awakening's gameplay better BUT"

Well to be clear I'm not even saying that Conquest is necessarily "objectively better than Birthright" or anything like that.

There are reasons someone might prefer Birthright. You could slightly prefer the story or characters, or think that the style of gameplay works better with random encounter maps, or think the gameplay is ruined by the mechanics to the point that none of the maps in either game are able to be redeemed. I'd guess that you're some combination of these things, but I mean, if to someone who is not someone who hates things like skills or multiclassing or whatever it is that ruins it for you then your opinion doesn't really have much value because there are things Conquest does better that just don't register to you.

It's kinda like a wine taster asking me my opinion of two random chateau de feet est 1498 wines. I'm not going to be able to distinguish.

Well I wouldn't recommend Conquest terribly much either cause total package I don't like the game all that much.

But if we're taking gameplay in a vacuum it's good and you trying to pretend it's "just as bad as Birthright" just makes me think you're not really someone I'd consider credible talking about the merits of Fire Emblem gameplay to begin with. Birthright is way worse.

I never really got the whiny sentiment, myself, even in a "it exists but it doesn't bother me" kinda way.

Like yeah he has his moments that you could take as whiny but to me it always feels like tongue in cheek because he's always so ridiculous about it. I NEED FOOD. I can't take that seriously as actual whining. As you said he is a pretty funny guy pretty often so to me it feels more consistent to not take his whining seriously.

Selfish? Disrespectful? Yeah, definitely. But whatever. Spira's a weird place and he's not reacting too different than I would, which as you said adds to his appeal.

Yeah. Snap reaction was to draw from Tactics but I think a better goal would be to set Tactics as a baseline to aim for for me. 170 currency isn't bad. That's really close to getting one of the 6* abilities and I should be able to make up the difference in realms I'm actually stacked in.

Compared to like FFV or FFXV or Type Zero and they're gonna be lucky to clear the 280 at all. Hell the 240 in the case of the latter two

Man I wish Alma's USB was on Banner 1 tonight instead of Banner 2. I'd actually be tempted to draw from it.

But it's kinda weird cause I don't think any of the relics could really make me do any better on the Torment. Like Ramza USB2 might make me able to sub 50 the fight? I don't know. Like I feel like my FFT realm is basically the perfect amount of underpowered right now in that I got most of the rewards and would need to sink a lot into it to get much more.

The rewards for 40s and 50s are kinda minor compared to 1m and 30s, basically. I barely sub 30'd 240, and barely sub 60'd 280, which seems like the perfect place to be if you're not stomping the realm.

Okay did 280 in 57.91 with the most ghetto FFT Team ever of Ovelia Ramza Alma Agrias Mustadio. Agrias being 80% of your DPS is good enough to beat 280 at least. Having Ovelia's LMR + Ultra is nice too. Ramza was just there to build chain with Earth Assault and entrust to Agrias (I have nothing for him except hail of stones). Mustadio was just for some weak breaks with his burst/magic breakdown and to build chain with the Flame Machinist 6 Hit. Alma was pretty much a hastega bot (literally nothing for her). I had her also using DeDia to bring down holy resist but yeah.

Doubt I can even get the 50% on the D??? though.

So is there any benefit to clearing these early beyond getting the cool skills early or can we take our sweet time.

I got him to like 30% on 280. I think I can in theory beat it if I spam Hastega more, despite FFT actually being one of my weaker realms. He gets a little Ultimate Ague happy late which is pretty obnoxious. I'll give it another try later.

Yeah I kinda thought Fellstar Diamond was fairly easy to damage if you could reliably get his invincibility down so it makes sense you wouldn't run damage stuff. It was kinda trivial for me since I had dualcasting Yuna and Rydia (the former being able to knock down stacks while healing with her burst) but he seemed kinda squishy and I didn't even have a chain.

Like I said if you think if it terms of effective mythril value it's not really too absurd. It's probably effectively worth like 2-3 daily mythril considering how diluted the pools are. I could buy it being a completely honest draw with those rates the more I think about it. Game has always been fairly behind the curve with free draws compared to like Brave Exvius or Fire Emblem Heroes.

Ironically despite so many complaints about the summer banners they were my luckiest by far. I got two Tanas and a Noire with like 30-40 orbs. I think the only banner I've drawn from that comes close was the Bridal banner where I got 3 Ninians in around that (though I got out on the summer banner and Bridal banner normalized by taking forever to get Tharja)

EVO interest peaked a few years ago for me. I even entered as trash fodder in like 2013. Not sure if I'll ever go back, but this year I'm hardly even paying attention to the event's existence. The death of Marvel probably plays a big part-- not sure there'll be a game that can fill that void as far as interest goes for me. I'll probably pay some attention to DBZ Fighter and Guilty Gear but that's about it.

It's basically a free draw from a garbage banner a day. I dunno what the value of that in mythril is... 3, maybe? It's not quite as outrageous as you'd think at a glance, but heavily reconsidering the value of Realms of Parade if we're going to get that. And 100 gem draws as well.

Look forward to actually looking forward to daily draws again in any case.

All things considered with on banner vs off banner I've had really good luck in this game. I don't think I've ever been combo broken by an off banner more than three times and I'd say I get the on banner more than half the time.

That's just an outrageously bad run.

And Xuxon's 6% pity rate too. I think my all time record was 4.75%

They're certainly passable though I feel like Fox would have slightly higher standards.

Way better than they were a few years ago in any case.

But if you're saying Sinclair doesn't wanna give it up cheap, I feel like RoH as a brand name has little enough extra value relative to "anything that is clearly wrestling (part of the problem TNA had as a name) and doesn't have the stink of TNA on it (the other problem)" that it probably wouldn't be a good buy. But I do think that buying say Corgan NWA, assuming it's a coherent product, could probably get you like... 80% of WWE's audience at this point just by putting in minimal effort. More over time if it was actually good.

We'll never know because no one's willing to experiment with wrestling but I do think there's a lot of untapped demand for it out there.

That is the only remotely compelling part of the game.

But yeah good characters can only do so much when the game refuses to focus on them whatsoever. I mean hell I can't even say they're not fleshed out. But I feel more love for countless random Fire Emblem characters, many of which are characterized almost entirely through optional support conversations, than I do for anyone in FFXII. Probably because even though the game itself doesn't acknowledge most random Fire Emblem side characters matter, the support conversations are at least a part they have 100% to themselves where they feel actually important.

It is a shame and I'll never scoff at anyone for liking FFXII's cast, but yeah none of it really does anything for me. I do like all of those characters you listed but it's a very lukewarm like. To make it worse I can't honestly say I like Balthier or Ashe way more than Penelo, for example, even though they are clearly more interesting and fleshed out characters, because Penelo isn't terrible and is likable enough in her own right despite being completely irrelevant. Which, being realistic, functionally isn't too far behind what Balthier and Ashe are in the story.

I think there's an audience that just wants to see a good wrestling product that hasn't been tapped into for some time

Lucha Underground isn't quite the right product for it I'll agree with SEP on that to some extent

ROH with good production values and a bit more star power could swing pretty strong ratings on the right network though I feel.

If pro wrestling was treated a bit more experimentally like you would with say a reality TV series I think consistent ratings are pretty easily obtained, though. Those people who used to watch WCW still exist. Like Fox would probably legitimately get more out of pulling an El Rey and funding their own wrestling fed (or buying something cheaper like RoH or NWA and infusing some production values into em) than just buying rights for WWE at this point.

Balthier's a guy who I enjoy but I can't really like that much because I don't think the story uses him well.

I feel like he's a decent character who'd be a great character in a different game.

Or a decent character who seems better than he is because of the game he's in.

Not sure which it is but either way he's not one of my favorites by any means. But I have nothing particularly bad to say about him either. I can't disagree with anything in your write-up but I just have trouble finding any passion for him, or any FFXII character really.

I guess he's probably my favorite FFXII character for whatever that's worth.
