Professor Layton and the Last Specter Chapter 3 complete! Who knew the specter would just be a giant shadow Heartless? Weirdly enough, there's a pan flute summoning this specter, and the villain in last night's Scooby-Doo episode also used a pan flute...!

Also, I had to re-download the MMX Collection, and thankfully, I still have my MMX6 save file. I've already beaten two Mavericks, and I already rescued Zero, so that's good!

Plus, at least with the Switch versions, I don't have to start all the way back at the beginning if I run out of lives, which is nice.

Violet Evergarden Episode 6 complete!

I started watching it last night, but I fell asleep, so I started over tonight. This was a really good episode. I think Leon is the best one-off character so far (and not just for his name!). His interactions with Violet were really nice, seeing how she gave him courage to move forward with his life and how he helped her understand some of the emotions she struggled with and didn't know what they were.

Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated Episode 6 complete! Now I get where the title of the show comes from!

Also, I never would have expected a Vincent van Ghoul cameo! And it was cool how they did a callback to a criminal from the original show in this one.

Mega Man 1 beated

Glad to have that one out of the way! It's fine, but the level design feels rough and often unforgiving compared to later incarnations (the beginning of the Elecman stage being the prime example where one misstep means you fall for three screens).

also Yellow Devil still sucks but the pattern for the last Wily fight wasn't too difficult actually

my fiancee was talking about seeing a movie this weekend if we had time and our options were the second Jumanji or Little Women so I took it upon myself to watch Jumanji to prevent me from having to watch Little Women

Aha, so the movie trilogy set between the first film and the new season is also out. 2019 was a big year for the franchise! Finally some forward momentum again. Unfortunately, Amazon has exclusive streaming rights to the third season, so unlike the second season it may be some time before we hear about a dub. And as for the new films, I cant find an official stream anywhere. Sucks, because they do help to set up certain elements of season three.

Also I was briefly saddened to learn that season 3 is only eight episodes. But then I also learned that each episode is around 46 minutes long. You end up with something roughly akin to 16 standard-length episodes, meaning going by runtime season 3 is actually a decent bit longer than season 2.

Mega Man 2 beated

Yeah, that's easily better than MM1. The design sense is so much stronger. The levels never feel unfair. The game actually provides good opportunities to use the special weapons outside of bosses, too, which MM1 didn't really do outside of needing Gutsman's weapon to get Item-1. They could use a little bit of balancing though because you can use the Metal Blade and Quick Boomerang seemingly infinitely, but then you end up in a situation where you almost have to die on purpose with a boss because Crash Bomber depletes so quickly and it's the only weapon that damages the boss. It doesn't have some of the later quality of life improvements like the slide, Rush, refillable E-Tanks, or being able to charge the Mega Buster, which almost makes it more impressive in a way that this game is so good because you're working with a more limited range of movement.

also I forgot how hilarious it is after you beat the last boss and the alien is exposed to be just a hologram and Wily is just hanging out in the corner moving the thing around with a joystick like a crane machine

and I guess I'll keep a running inequality of the games

Violet Evergarden Episode 7 complete!

That was a really emotional episode, but they did say they never actually found Gilbert's body. In fiction, if you don't see the body, that means there's always a chance they're still alive somewhere. I always assumed he was dead and they just didn't know how to tell her, but now I wonder if they'll swerve with an ending that he's still alive.

Huh, this episode didn't really have anything to do with the overarching plot. It was more of an episode designed to make Fred realize his feelings for Daphne, which is almost kind of a shame because his complete obliviousness to her feelings for him was one of the best parts of the show up to now!
