She spends so, so much time just standing there. So far the hardest boss for me has been Savage Beastfly, which felt like a real Traitor Lord scenario of "this boss is stupid easy so why have I died a dozen times" --- "You're childish. If Hollow Knight is hard, what is something like Dead Cells? A game with much faster paced combat that I can barely keep up with. Or Hades, as an example, where I can barely process melee combat at all. Nevermind Dark Souls which I can't get past the tutorial in. I definitely found HK much harder than Hades and Dark Souls (though Dark Souls is 3D which for me, and maybe others, adds like 30% difficulty just straight out the gate). Like. I beat Hades on 32 heat and I think Watcher Knights was harder for me than that. Dark Souls difficulty is front-loaded so once I got past Ornstein and Smough nothing else was ever a challenge. And just finishing a run in Dead Cells is incredibly simple; I assume there's a lot more depth to the game after getting that first ending but I kinda hated that game and never played it again to find out lol. I will say HK is slower, has better controls, and gives you a much more durable character than any of these games though. It's a lot easier to learn a HK boss than a Dark Souls boss, where sometimes you'll just die in 2 hits and learn nothing. Dels posted... Is it harder than the average metroidvania? Sure, though even then, from what I recall, stuff like Fusion's Nightmare or Prime 2's Boost Guardian set the bar decently high. I never fought OG Boost Guardian and it's a chump in the remakes but Nightmare is really not a tough boss at all, that's definitely a case where a lot of people think it's hard because we played it as kids. Nightmare on a 1% run I would say is comparable to some of the tougher (but not toughest) HK bosses though. --- "You're childish. What are you getting? Are you getting strawberry? Ha! But there's still some charms that seem interesting that I know I'll never have the room for, and that feels like a waste. Slight gameplay spoiler with only niche applications, but you might never learn about it without being told: ~~try repeatedly attempting to equip a charm you don't have room for.~~ --- "You're childish. And don't get me started on Path of Pain. HK is definitely much harder than the average game of its genre, even outside the bonus content. If the boss is optional post-game content, and I can't get it quickly, I probably don't bother. TBH, I never actually beat Radiance, either. I got there, got sick of refighting THK to reach Radiance, and decided I was frustrated enough with my attempts that I'd settle for saying I did everything else up to that point. I should probably go back and try to fix that since I've played a lot more similar games since and that one's for the actual ending. This isn't necessarily the standard opinion but I thought the Radiance was the toughest boss in the game, even tougher than NKG, much less regular Grimm.
