No, it's like an artist who is really really shitty, but for some reason gets a lot of praise.

This happens in abstract art all the time. Pollock and Rothko for example get mocked all the time. Also the banana and the toilet. 100% of the time is greatly boosts the original artist's fame and success.

How is this any different?

People keep forgetting Pritzker's baggage. He's got a lot of it, and he's a billionaire. He's doing some good things, and I have nothing against him, but much like with Newsom, he's not in my Top 5 picks.

This is different because what trump is doing is not art in any sense of the word so to compare him with Pollock and Rothko completely loses the point.

He's pumping out insane drivel and people are treating it like a sign of strength. Mocking his drivel does not "boost" it because it's already being blasted at maximum volume. Anyone who doesn't see a problem with Trump's posts but call's out Newsom's mockery for all of the correct reasons is simply dunking on themselves.

Pritzker's far ahead of anybody who's been floated to me, but that's a depressingly low bar to clear.
I'd happily take Crockett or Walz or Mamdani or Omar if they were available.
I'd hold my nose for AOC or Sanders.
I'd consider Harris or Obama, and most of the other Dems go here too.
Newsom or a Clinton means I go third party again, Buttigieg probably does too, along with a lot of the high ranking dems.

(caveat: I may or may not be able to vote at all by 2028, and it won't be in a state where it matters. I am also aware some of these are more likely and legal than others, but that doesn't seem to matter much, lately)

I don't feel like my bar is that high, and I've lowered it in response to Trump and pals, but I simply don't align all that well with the Dems at this point, beyond lesser-of-two-evils stuff. You can try to guilt trip me with enemy of my enemy stuff, but that sure didn't seem to work out in the UK.

My issues are trans+queer+other marginalized rights, Palestine, police state+surveillance+censorship, actually trying to fix or slow down any of Trump's crap, and education. I'd probably hold my nose for a Dem that could throw me a bone on, like, two of those.

Strength is probably the right word. There's a desire to insult perceived enemies to their faces, and to make them suffer, and Trump is willing and able to do both.

I just want someone who will 1) beat Republicans and 2) isn't fascist.

Those are my only two asks atp.

Anyway back to video games for me. 8 months into the Trump term and I am already much calmer about dying at some point knowing I wont be missing much of human history. I never liked sad endings.

But yes this is really what liberals need. You gotta draw the lines one way or another, and you won't get everything you want. And the billionaire thing is a very easy thing to compromise on. Most every president in the US has been from a rich family. It's the best way to win.

Federal Appeals Court rules the Trump tarrifs are illegal.

He and his cronies are already flipping their shit in the usual places.

Being illegal has never stopped him from doing anything before, so not expecting much to come of this.

If SCOTUS sides with Trump on this, the conservative legal movement might as well concede defeat. To have an executive who can set tax rates at will without Congress acting..... That's the liberal bogeyman conservatives have been fighting for decades.

Vance doesn't have a cult to intimidate people with like Trump does and has the charisma of an unflushed toilet. There would be more pushback against him. The story is, to the best of my knowledge, someone posted some video on reddit that showed Trump from back in June and tried to pass it off as today or something and that was caught out and discovered to be from late June. But it was literally just some rando who posted it and yet somehow has become a component to this story.

The actual, genuine, honest-to-god WH Press Corps has taken photos of him and is following him around today.

Concerns have swirled in recent months surrounding the health of Trump, who became the oldest president at the time of swearing in in January.

Not sure "concerns" is the right word here, though to be fair it's definitely concerning that he's still alive.
