I could see this be competitive but it feels like it's gonna be TLOU.

GotY-battle is gonna really be between LoZ:TotK VS BG3. I think GameFAQs and the Game Awards will diverge here.

I agree there should be a line between the types. I'm not sure Braid falls into the soft side though...maybe? I think its puzzles are uniquely difficult enough and the game goes deep enough with its mechanics to be on the hard side, but it's pretty short with intended speedrunning in it too. I can see the argument, but I'd place it at least as harder than Portal/Puyo Puyo if we do like a scale of things.

The hardest puzzle game that I like very much is The Witness, and I would put that in the harder side alongside Baba and ole' sausage rolls.

Braid, Portal 1/2, and the Puyo Puyo games are the best puzzles games.

Baba Is You is very cool as a premise and a game to mess around with. I just got stuck early...wish it had a smoother rise in difficulty so I could have stuck with it longer. I don't think it's guilty of a difficulty jump like Steven's Sausage Rolls, but I can only look up so many hints that early in a puzzle game before I need to dip.

Sad it's not on the Switch, but I am excited for the game to come back and be relevant again. I replayed it recently...Fickle Companion is still a rough puzzle room, but otherwise it's still the joy I remember the game to be.

Donald was being sarcastic on the "nice fellow" part, but that doesn't change that it's weird to hear in Presidential campaign rallies.

I get letting him talk and ruling afterward, but I very much get letting clear answers be his talk and not letting this be another space he can mumble-stumble his way through. He's got a legal team to help him make his other points if they're that relevant to his innocence.

Just gonna say about Georgia, I don't see Biden losing Georgia in 2024. He won 2020 and now the state has the nation's biggest RICO case against Donald since then for how he tried to overwhelm their state. He also didn't concede on losing like Stacy Abrams did't concede, who did worse in her rematch against Brian Kemp partly because of it and partly because of Kemp's new incumbent-advantage -- similar with Biden and Donald here.

If Biden loses Georgia, I'll be surprised and looking for reasons about how that happened.

Happy 3-0! There's a lot of life ahead, just consider how you want to pursue your long-term goals and consider what old-person jokes you want to make along the way.

Also to the earlier recommendations, just confirming on Night In The Woods. Its writing is bratty but it's also some of the best dialogue in recent years.

The Stanley Parable is a perfect game of its genre, and Ultra Deluxe is an admirable follow-up. I immediately purchased it as soon as I heard about it when it released, and I wasn't disappointed.

Hotline Miami 1 was rad.

I didn't get into A Hat In Time much...seemed okay enough, just didn't connect.

BoI is one of my very favorite games, and I did not like it the first few times I played it. If you felt like you tried it enough, you probably did -- it took me three or five tries before I gradually changed my mind -- but your mileage may vary.

RAINBOW road getting so much spotlight in the final releasing of courses doesn't shock me.

My thought's to have two states be "first" at the same time with rather different demographics, then the third state can be a swing state.

It makes politicians focus more nationally from the beginning while still having flexibility on where they want to focus more for those two first states if they prefer. Demographics can feel better represented if it's not like North and South Dakota or Oregon and Washington. Having a swing state be the third state doesn't feel too much like pandering while still being a solid step in separating the trees from the twigs so to speak. The loss here though is it would be a bit harder for new/unproven campaigns to get their first win if two states are at play to begin instead of one...but with two states being first, you can go all in on one state while your opponent may be aiming for both states.

Not a perfect idea, but maybe helpful.

Also, the first fifteen minutes of Battleblock Theatre is a wonderful game to only play a few minutes of. That opening cutscene is still one of my favorites.

Also Mark of the Ninja influenced practically every single indie game, every non-indie stealth, and a bunch of mobile games too. It was so influential it made itself seem run of the mill. They kinda did the same thing with Don't Starve.

Could you go into detail please? Not disagreeing, but I enjoyed MotN and never thought about it inspiring influences beyond itself.

Valid write-up. The game was cool until that meat tower-puzzle being an immediate escalation of puzzle difficulty.

Just testing Surskit's experience there a little, I tried Googling a few games. In general, searching for "[GAME] FAQ" or "[GAME] Answers" gets GameFAQs at the top. However, if I'm looking for something specific about the games like a certain world, list of things about the game, or how to find its collectables...always went somewhere else first for the top results.

I believe this was when save_us.rat became a thing.

Nobody wants to see the champions lose in their final game.

Play-offs are best off of that alone. The other arguments make sense, they do...but the high stakes and an important final victory caps the narrative search for the best team nicely, and narrative sells.

Does this collection include the stand-alone game that was only VR missions?

That'll be my difference-maker in whether or not I purchase it when it's on sale.

Excuse you, the song said hell in a Donkey Kong game.

Mechanically, the gameplay's okay enough. Musically, the DK Rap is perfect -- no notes.

As a whole package, however, that level of collect-a-thon'iness was offensive and I don't respect it. It and Banjo-Tooie were a brutal one-two punch for the direction of the genre, and I am glad they did not influence the industry further in the way of collecting things.

So then Mario + Zelda + half of Mudkip still is 60% of the poll, and Mario/Zelda are probably near 50/50 like the last contest. MMX had 29.98% and could remain pretty stable.

Just not a lot of wiggle room to beat MMX in that scenario either...would be close, but I'd still have to favor the Blue Bomber due to Zelda's rise in the ranks.

True about Lost Levels, but I am also 106%'ing Super Meat Boy for probably my fifth time and currently trying to get my best times possible on all its levels.

Nintendo already has 70% of the vote there and Mega Man X is still a powerhouse. I fully expect Zelda to do much better against Mario if not potentially beat him again (especially post-TotK), but I don't know how much harder they can wring percentages out of MMX or a Pokemon. Mario's also having a big time right now with the Mario movie, Wonder just now releasing to great reviews, and having two Mario RPG remasters announced for within the next year.

Seems to me Mario and Zelda will squabble while MMX slips into first place.

CJayC crawled so SBAllen could walk. I'll say CJayC for contest-decisions but SBAllen for working twice as long and still wanting to stay at the site after stepping down.

I can see value in a "lessons learned" type of topic for both people grateful and unhappy with SBAllen's tenure as a potential resource for the next lead administrator to reflect upon. Somebody could make that topic and I would at least follow and probably participate. That said, this topic doesn't feel like the place for some of the responses it's getting like from Lopen. Feel your feelings, tell your truth, all that! But it's clear most people are congregating here with a different tone and purpose. A separate topic more committed to reflection and future ideas for the site would probably be more appropriate and helpful instead of defensive like it feels like it's become here.

I said my appreciation elsewhere already so I won't harp on it again, but thanks SB for trying as long as you did and caring about our interests where you could.
