I have heard the phase before, but outside of the edgiest of edge-lords, no one is using it in common speech.

A better (and more common) phase would be calling it a "powder keg" or something similar.

It's always super bizarre to me how people love bragging about how much they've wasted oin games they never intend to play.
It is not that I never intend to play them, just that I don't intend to play them at the time I am buying them. Most of them are bundles that contain one game that I want to play, and come with another 8-10 games with it. 90% of my library are games I didn't know I was getting when I bought something else, or just showed up in my library due to Steam combining bundles of games together over the years.

Plus it is nice to be like "I am in the mood to play X, let me check my library and...cool, I already own it!"

I am over 1200 now. I want to say I have been buying games on Steam since 2009 or 2010. Can't remember exactly when. I know the first game I bought was Doom 3 + Resurrection of Evil.

That was before I even had a Windows gaming PC, I was using Steam through Wine then downloading a Linux source port to play it.

Pretty spot on. After our consensus, one guy shortly explained a doubt that was cleared up from further evidence. It was a very somber mood, no one wanted to replay the details about what transpired. I'm far from being easily disturbed, but it's all so fucked up. I carried some weight from it for some months. I'm glad the graphic details are fading from memory
Ugh, I can only imagine. I haven't been on a jury yet but my dad was on a murder trial and the victim was shot at point blank range with a shotgun. He said the images of that were burned in his brain for a long time, along with the fear that the guy they convicted was going to escape and do the same thing to him.

hello

in 1970 you could get a home cassette deck for $99.

Keyword: home

If you were at home, you were listening to records. And record players were way cheaper than that. What was the price of a portable cassette deck in 1970, or a car radio with a cassette deck in 1970? Then compare that to the price of an 8 track.

They didn't become affordable until around the time of the walkman in 1979.

And that is not even getting into the fact that $99 in 1970 was essentially $800 in today's money.

recordable 8 track tapes were around $15 for a single one (the cheapest 8 track recorder in 1970 I can find is $200, I'm sure there were cheaper options), conversely a 3 pack of cassettes were $3 (cassette players that could record were about $150, but im sure there were also cheaper options)

And 8 track was never advertised as recordable media. Which was also my point.

cassettes were cheaper than 8tracks lmao

and they were also around since before 8tracks

if you're going to try and insult me, at least know what you're talking about

because i certainly do~
Then you would know that cassette players were primarily used for recording and playback of sound until the 80's, and that it was due to the cost of mass-producing cassette tapes and players. Simply put, in the 60's it was cheaper to mass-produce 8 track players. By the 80's cassette had become cheaper and 8 tracks were the same price as they were in the 60's. So saying one is cheaper then the other is only a half truth. They became cheaper which is why they were popular when they were.

It was the same thing with VHS/Betamax. It was used as a recording medium because it was cost-restrictive to use it for home releases of movies/TV. People had to spend a whole paycheck on a player and a single tape, so no one was going to expect consumers to buy multiple movies on tape. By the 80's and 90's, that was no longer the case.

they had the technology for regular cassette tapes when they made 8tracks, there was no reason for 8tracks to ever exist

Because like most technology when it is first released, it wasn't financially viable for the commercial market until like 20 years after it was released. Conversely, 8 tracks were commercially viable in the 70's and therefore took off then.

I mean, what sane person would go "Gee, I know I can buy this 8 track for $10, but for $150 I can get the same album on cassette!"

A good example of this is borderlands. They have cool sniper rifles in the games, however I hate how there really isn't a stealth aspect to it. The second you fire at an enemy all the others some how know exactly where you are.

Makes you won't what's the point of even having those sniper rifles in the first place.
It's a co-op game, you have one class that is good at sniping and 3 others that prefer to fight up close and personal. The idea is that the other 3 distract the enemies while you snipe them. Same concept as in games like Diablo: Melee classes distract the enemies while ranged classes shoot at them from afar. Which is appropriate given that Borderlands is copying that style of game.

You are complaining because you are playing a co-op game single player.

So then answer this: Why do you care to tell him he is wrong? What huge offense is he committing by being wrong about it? Why do you feel the need to tell him he is wrong rather than let him believe what he believes and move on?

Dig deep enough and the answer is going to have something to do with insecurity. If someone tells me "you make $7.50 an hour and live in your parents basement" I am not going to go "Actually, I make $500K a year and own 3 houses!", I am just going to ignore them because nothing changes in my life if they believe me or not.

Building computers is way easier then it was 10-20 years ago. Nowadays you don't even need a screwdriver. My dad built his current computer and all I helped him with was picking parts that worked well together and "checking his work" after. And that was someone who knows next to nothing about electronics. If he can do it, anyone can.

Downside is you are responsible for diagnosing any problems with it, but pretty much everything can be googled easily. It is very rare you are going to have a problem that is so out there you can't figure it out. Plus for some people, that is part of the fun. As much as the "My computer has a memory leak and I don't know why" problem I had a few years back was annoying, I also loved trying out different things to fix it (FYI, it was corrupted network drivers I had to manually reinstall from a bad Windows update).

I was working too slowly at a task that I'd done only a couple of times. I already stopped caring about my job at that point, so my pace was partially because I was already in half a mind to quit, partially because I just don't move fast in general, and partially because I get so little sleep these days. I'd seen that my hours had gotten slashed in half for the following week, and it was then that I questioned further the point in continuing. On a previous occasion, human resources called me in because of my tendency to be far less sociable than what is required of someone working in a customer service role. From that point onward, I'd accepted the inevitability that I would one day get fired anyway, because I just abhor having to speak with people in general, customers, superiors, co-workers, and all.

You basically listed all of the reasons I never worked retail/customer service.

I would look into something like construction, machining, warehousing, etc.

Still don't know why they can't go the Saint's Row route and just have a character creator for single player. Hell, every game should have one nowadays. It doesn't need to have millions of options, just something that allows you to select gender, skin and hair color, some face options, etc.

Not really a "one-off" because it had a sequel (that no one played because it was released in 94 on the NES), but StarTropics.

One of them, I think paypal, had registered and they still blocked the website from what I heard.
Sounds like from the article they have only processed a few hundred permits, and have something like 8,000 in their backlog. Yet they decided to block the sites anyways even if they have a permit submitted, but not processed.

I doubt the companies care that much considering Indonesia probably isn't a huge slice of their user base, but I imagine the consumers are PISSED. At least VPN usage is going to go up significantly there.

What is a hostle in the states like?

Not much different then they are other places, just less common because most people prefer motels/hotels.

I sprung for the one with a private bathroom/shower and it cost me like $40 for the night. But that was like 6 years ago, so account for inflation and all that.

Yep, they closed the office I was working at to "reduce costs", and they ended up having to pay millions in severance checks, millions in repairs on the building before it they could sell it, and millions on having us train new employees. All because they didn't want to make us all remote employees. Then almost exactly one year after we all left, Covid happened and everyone was a remote employee. XD

But seriously, it was the best thing that happened to my career. I was only sticking around for that fat severance check they had to pay me to leave.

Would I? I have. It was great!

I also did the hotel thing because I didn't feel like driving across the Canadian border at 3 AM. It is just one night, so I would find the cheapest hostel you can to get a few hours of sleep at.

As a kid I was pretty much able to brute force the games I beat because I would just play them over and over again until I memorized them. Nowadays I play a lot smarter and can recognize patterns quicker. Plus, most of my "boomer shooter" accomplishments came later in life. Never would have thought I could say "I beat all of the commercially released Doom games on Ultra Violence" when I was playing them 25+ years ago.

So yea, better, easily.
