Oddly enough, besides Yahoo, this is the only site that I used to visit back when my parents got Internet for the first time in 97 that is still around. I also don't visit Yahoo anymore so it is the only site from that time that I still pay attention to. So in that sense I guess I would miss it.

That said, even in my "prime visiting days" I would post way less than most people here. So I would probably recover pretty easily. It might actually convince me to make a Reddit account (probably not).

Articles about physical games sold vs. digital:

https://mynintendonews.com/2022/12/27/72-of-console-games-sold-in-2022-were-digital-vs-28-physical/
https://www.gamebyte.com/90-of-video-game-sales-in-2022-were-digital/
https://assetsio.reedpopcdn.com/GI22_Infographic_YIN_dev1C.jpg

I think the biggest indicator that it might be going away is revenue. All physical games sold in 2022 accounted for a little over 10 billion in revenue, vs over 170 billion for digital.

Seems like physical games are becoming less and less appealing, what with day one patches making them essentially an incomplete game that requires an additional download before you can even do anything with them. So, will the PS6/Switch2/Xbox Omega Delta Up Your Butt and Around the Corner Edition be digital only?

The whole "Disable ad block or GTFO" is stupid. Like, if you tell me that, 99 times out of 100 I am going to GTFO, then what are you gaining? You aren't even getting people who will share your content with others who might not have ad blockers. It is literally lose-lose. Either accept that a large amount of people are going to be viewing your site with an ad blocker, or offer a premium service that does more than just disable ads and actually makes people want to use it.

Licensing most likely, that is usually the reason for games being removed.

Given how money hungry GW is, not surprising a smaller studio couldn't afford to renew the license on a smaller game that probably doesn't sell very well.

I mean yea, developers will lie about map size because people think bigger is better. I prefer Burnout Paradise to most "open world" driving games because they at least fill the world with tons of stuff to do in every inch of the map. Having a map the size of Starfield doesn't help if 90% can be ignored to get the full experience of the game.

The thing I don't get is that a lot of people cannot afford homes, even if they're making decent money for their area. Then also lumber prices are up, like I was going to rebuild my deck last year and decided to wait, and this year it was significantly more expensive....So I'd imagine the cost to build a home is way higher too. Then there's war everywhere, so not only is the lumber costly but the fuel is too. Meaning cost to buy a brand new home is probably way, way up compared to an already constructed home.

But, with all of that in mind, right now in my city there are 12 new neighborhoods being constructed. Not like a one-off home being built in a lot, but 20-30 home communities are being built. They're not even cutting down the woods or anything in my area (which I think they would to at least re-use that local lumber), but are instead just building them in vacant fields.
It makes absolutely no sense to me, but it seems like new neighborhoods are constantly popping up. There was one that finished being built 5 years ago and there are a grand total of two families living in that neighborhood that I've counted. I ride my bike through there all the time and it's some weird, creepy ghost town and they keep building more and more.
I don't like the look of the neighborhoods, either. They all look like that movie "Vivarium" if anyone is familiar with it...which doesn't fit aesthetically at all with my area, which is the stereotypical midwestern small-medium sized city.

Everybody wants to buy new. If they can afford it, they don't want to buy a house someone else has lived in. When my real estate agent worked with me to buy my house, even they treated buying an older house as "settling".

And right now, the only people who can afford to buy a house are the ones who buy new.

There are convenience stores (at least in my area) that offer cards kind of like what you are asking for, but they usually only work for those stores, or they are more like an American Express card where you are expected to just pay off the balance every month. Or you could pre-paid cards (like I do when buying something from a "sketchy" site), but that goes more into the management thing you are trying to avoid.

Sounds more like you need to restructure your accounts in such a way that it isn't too much management for your tastes. Don't know why you can't just have a checking account with a debit card and one (or two) savings accounts and move money into the checking account when it gets below a certain amount, or split up your paycheck in such a way that your checking account only gets as much money as you want to spend in a week or two.

It really raises the question of why the admins bother letting them come back. Second chances are great and all, but when an account has spent 5.5 of the 6 months it's existed in purgatory, there obviously isn't much value in only temporarily banning it.

Pure speculation, but I think there is a karma "threshold" where they will just keep putting you in purgatory. Then once you go below that threshold, ban hammer. Anyone remembers DSP9 or whatever his name was? He spent years in and out of purgatory before his karma got below like 700 or something, then they just banned him.

Time in purgatory has less to do with the severity of the offense and more to do with how many offenses are on your history.

The reality is that Maine is a decidedly middle class state. Average household income puts it squarely in the middle of the pack looking at all 50 states, too. This website is about stereotyping appearance and if you were to drive around the state you'd see a lot of beards and "rustic" clothing, meaning that AI image is closer to what a typical Mainer looks like, as you'll see a lot less button-down shirts and "yuppie" wear traveling about.

As I mentioned, the image in that article looks like a couple homeless people, which I agree isn't typical of an average Maine resident, but that general look is closer than what a "yuppie" image would be for your average Maine resident.

The Connecticut image is what I would associate more with yuppies, and I wouldn't consider the Connecticut image to be closer to the average Maine resident than I would the Maine image
Maybe it depends where you drive, but when I have driven around Bar Harbor, Camden, Portland, Boothbay, etc (Where most people in the state live), it is extremely upper class and yuppie. What you are describing sounds more like New Hampshire, specifically the northern part. Yes, some of that bleeds into Maine, but not as much as you think.

Every state is thick with "blue collar and rural types". Hell, like I said, I live in New York, and I have absolutely driven through areas where electricity and indoor plumbing are a scarcity. However, ask the average person what New York is known for, and it is that city that accounts for <1% of the land area and >40% of the population.

Same with Maine, the majority of the population lives on the coast. That is where the yuppies are. Therefore, Maine is primarily yuppies. Not that I care, I would love to live in Maine (if I didn't have family obligations here). But you can't deny reality because other areas exist outside of that in the state.

Still lower than pretty much any other state in the country. If anything, the Rhode Island picture is way more accurate, both Maine and Vermont are upper-class yuppy areas. Although given how much lobster I see around Maine, I still think the Louisiana picture makes the most sense for Maine.

Also, just a random thought: Why do AI insist on putting 6 fingers/toes on all humans? You would think someone would fix that bug by now.

Always take pictures of everything (carpets, appliances, rooms, etc) before you hand over the keys to the landlord so when they try to pull that you can sue their asses for your security deposit. Did that with my last apartment, but the landlord was actually really good and only docked me $15 for not cleaning the inside of the microwave.

But, to be fair, when I moved my mom out of her apartment she pretty much trashed the place because she was a hoarder, so I just made sure not to provide them any contact info since I knew it would cost them 3X - 5X the cost of the security deposit to repair everything.

TopicPeople talking about religion still has a sort of "shock value" for me

It is a bit weird for me since my neither of my parents were religious in the slightest. But everyone I have interacted with who is "religious" treats religion more as a social gathering than something that impacts your day to day life. In other words, it isn't really mentioned all that much.

yes she did.

by just continuing to run. in her gerrymandered district where she is essentially unopposed.
She was a Senator, not a Representative. They don't run in districts. Her "district" was the state of California.

Batman once murdered people left and right like a generic vigilante

I have read pretty much the entirety of the golden age Batman, and I can say this is exaggerated a bit. Yes, villains died quite a bit, but Batman was really only directly responsible in one or two instances. In most cases it was the "Villian trying to escape and accidentally killing himself" trope mentioned above. Probably the most infamous case of him straight up murdering someone was his first comic (which is the one everyone shares as a "SEE, BATMAN KILLS PEOPLE!!!" case). But after that it was accidents in pretty much all cases.

I will say though, golden age batman felt no remorse over those deaths. He just went "oh well..." and walked away like nothing happened.

RIP and I don't want to dump on someone recently deceased but we need age limits on politicians and SC members. That she was allowed to continue in her role at 90 and in clear cognitive decline is insane

Shouldn't be restricted to age limits maybe but there should be some set of parameters that officeholders need to meet in order to remain in their role. If they have health issues but have reasonable cognition and can still do the job for the most part OK keep on keeping on but holy shit Feinstein should've been gone months if not years ago

I think term limits more-so then age limits will help that and solve a lot of the other problems in congress as well.

4 terms for a representative (8 years) and 2 terms for a senator (12 years) would do wonders. The only downside I could see (besides members of congress not being able to hold onto power as long, which is THEIR problem, not ours) is having to pay out more in pensions since we will have more retired congressional leaders. But even as the raging libertarian I am I would happily have taxes go towards that if it meant we didn't have Senators sitting in the same spot for 30 - 40 years and dying in office.

Edit: And yea, add limits on the Supreme Court as well. Like you can only serve on the court for 12 years.
