I'd kill to teach for that salary. I'm a part time finance instructor at a university and get paid less than 4k to teach one course. Fulltime equivalency is four classes per semester which comes out to under $32k per year, but no part timer would ever actually sniff annual pay close to that.

If you can't stomach listening to an 8 minute clip, here's my brief summary. Joe yuks it up with his guests talking about a new species of mega-sized chimp that's supposedly been discovered, citing all sorts of "credible evidence." A PhD primatologist calls in to tell him that no such species exists, and he immediately launches into an insulting tirade against the woman, barely allowing her to get in two words edgewise. He ends his rant by mocking her - "I have a vagina!"

I remember another video from years back (probably before he even started a podcast) where a woman argues with him at some event, and he flies off the fucking handle. The guy clearly can't handle being challenged by women - his insecurity is pathetic.

And one thing we haven't mentioned yet - Animal Crossing is now the best selling single-platform (and non-bundled) game of all time. Mario Kart Wii had held that record for years.

I played Engineer last year because I thought it would help when going for the Platinum (I assumed Powers would only count as being "used" if Shepard is the one to use them - turns out that isn't the case). Had I known that, I would have been an Adept and had a funner time.

The Wii U might wind up being the most "erased" console ever. Switch is one or two re-releases away from evaporating the last trace of uniqueness that system has.

I rewatched the original just a few weeks ago and couldn't help but make a perverted observation.

In the scene where Val dresses Rhonda's wounds, she clearly has unshaven legs. Maybe they purposely included that in a ridiculously thorough way to establish her character (isolated, outdoorsy academic), or maybe no one cared, but it still surprised me to see hairy legs on the attractive love interest in a mainstream American movie.

PSP actually did quite well, it was just eclipsed by the incredible success of the DS.

As for handhelds in general, I think everyone - even Nintendo - sees the writing on the wall. Consumers are ok having multiple dedicated gaming devices under their TVs, but no one wants another gizmo in their pockets aside from their phones. Doesn't Nintendo have quite a few mobile games now?

It seems like a distinctly opposite situation from what they faced with the Wii - that one started red hot but couldn't sustain it very well, to the extent that it almost felt like they rushed the Wii U out the door. Now, Nintendo has the option to milk Switch longer than they probably planned for, and the fact that PS5/Xbox production shortages are expected to last at least another year gives them even more room to stretch. I really doubt they want to release a brand new console after seeing how Sony and Microsoft are struggling to get their new machines produced.

If Switch gets another two full years to stand on its own (a seven year cycle is unheard of for a Nintendo console, but so is this sustained level of success, and covid has slowed production and R&D anyway), I'd say it has a shot to overtake the PS2. Averaging 20m per year over the next two years is lofty but achievable, and by then, it'd be about 10m behind PS2. At that point, if Nintendo is really interested in reclaiming the "best selling console" mantle after three decades, they can finally cut the price to get Switch over the hump.

As a kid, I hated Tuesday the most because at least Monday had wrestling. I haven't watched Monday wrestling in years but there's still this subconscious understanding that Tuesday is just the lamest.

One post that I definitely remember you making was in some kinda dating/sex topic, where you shared that you dated a 16-year-old when you were 25. No one cared at the time (and I'm honestly not sure if I care today) - this was at least ten years ago - but I still recall that post as an example of how quickly popular opinion can change in the days of social media. If anyone admitted the same thing on Board 8 today, condemnation would probably be immediate.

Not trying to dig up old "dirt" on you or anything, but that's one of the singular Board 8 posts I remember most in the past 20 years. If anything, I should thank you for that!

Has anyone here guessed a word in two tries? My best is three and I've been playing tons of games on another website with no daily limit.

And can anyone think of an "objectively" better starting word than ARISE? It hits the three most common vowels and two of the four most common consonants. Theoretically, any word that substitutes the S with T or N would be more beneficial, but I can't think of one.

This. I'm not even 100% sure what Game Pass is, but I assume it's a monthly subscription service like Netflix. That's the train every major corporation is hopping on - the console wars are dead.

Top management is usually shown the door in an acquisition like this. Kotick will be gone.

Anyway, I'm not sure if Microsoft has "run them outta town" intentions for Sony - a lot of money can be made licensing their IPs on other platforms.

The only JRPG I know well enough to recall and truly dissect character abilities is Xenoblade, and the worst party member there is clearly Sharla...

Route C (plus the final ending) is one of the best stretches in gaming ever conceived. I went into that thinking the game was an 8/10 and left with it as a 10/10.

I'm gonna need to find a solid plot explanation/analysis video because I sorta checked out of the main storyline after 2B's part definitively ended. Don't get me wrong - I felt all the touching individual character interactions were very well done and emotionally resonant (especially with the machines), but the main plot never really hooked me.

I thought about that for a second and assume that the first ever retail players got assisted by the dev team/playtesters.

Though in classic Japanese fashion, I'd wager those devs/playtesters also had to self-delete.

I was ready to walk away from the game feeling a bit disappointed, as there were a few glaring flaws. The repeat playthroughs felt more than a little forced - I think the developers could have conveyed some of those same thoughts without forcing us to re-tread so much of the same game. The main plot kinda devolved into gibberish that I didn't care to truly understand. 9S and his hacking gimmick were annoying.

Still, the game triumphantly won me back into its corner at the final hour. Never before did fucking post-game text prompts put tears in my eyes, and as soon as I felt that emotion, I knew immediately what I had to do.

So yeah, I did the thing. I gave up my save data and don't feel the slightest tinge of regret.

Also, I make my recommendation partly because I feel you're not someone who will be immediately deterred by a dated game. The story, music, voice acting, and Star Wars atmosphere of KotOR are still top notch.

Absolutely, it's an all-time classic. It's been a while since I've done a playthrough, but between 2004-10, I probably beat it once a year. There are aspects of the combat which will seem very janky compared to today's RPGs, but I find the D&D inspired gameplay to be quite fun.

Also, keep in mind that George Lucas was butchering his franchise with the prequels when KotOR was released, and thus fans embraced it with an even more endearing fondness, since it was seen as "more true to Star Wars than the new movies."

Peak Konami and Capcom were putting out even more all time stuff than Square, with significantly more variety (and they actually put all of it out in Europe which is a major black mark against Square). Regardless, Japanese third party publishers used to absolutely dominate the console space.

I'll definitely acknowledge Konami's incredible 1997-2004 peak - it began with SotN and featured MGS1-3, Silent Hill 1-4, the GBA Castlevania trilogy, and the popularization (if not invention) of the rhythm genre with DDR.

And clearly, that stretch drained them of every drop of their lifeforce.

Yeah, I have to credit SA because I still see it praised all the time even in contemporary contexts, but I played so much GTA3 and VC back in the day that I was completely burned out by the time SA launched, and I've never been that interested in revisiting the series.

Square's output from 94-01 is probably - if not certainly - the best stretch that a non-Nintendo developer ever had. Heck, we can stretch to 2002 to credit them with Kingdom Hearts as well.

Apparently we tried to make a 10-year happen, but some drama between the old student government people prevented it. There was a push for a 15-year reunion in 2019, but only like ten people showed up since it was held on a TUESDAY.

With social media keeping everyone somewhat connected, I think large structured reunions like this are a thing of the past.

The only thing I remember about combat is that I focused on Alchemy (the green branch), as this is supposed to make you overpowered in the late game, but I felt pretty strong most of the way through.

Hey, same here! I powered through them a few months ago when that collection became available. HoD and AoS were new for me, but CotM was a teenage favorite.

I really disliked HoD and powered through for all the trophies only because of neuroticism. The visuals and music were both completely off-putting, and that dual-dimension layout... awful. AoS was a much smoother experience, but I still prefer CotM despite its more glaring flaws. I feel that game has easily my favorite soundtrack, and for whatever reason, the random drops just feel way more satisfying than in the other two games.

Also, collecting every Soul was such a worse grind than collecting every DSS card (but again, that's more of a 'me' problem).

I got a grand more than expected for my beat up old Camry, and that was like seven months ago. I could have waited and probably gotten an extra grand on top of that, but I literally didn't have a place to store it. Crazy seller's market for just about everything rn.
