I'd say Ludwig was more iconic
Same, Ludwig felt more hyped since his namesake sword is featured in the main game (and is the easiest way to cheese the game for novice players), and the storytelling in his boss fight is possibly the best I've ever seen. It may be my favorite boss ever, though Maria is no slouch.

Different lifestyles. I'm frugal like you (I'm a rice and beans guy, and I prefer cheap vacations to lavish ones - the cheap ones are usually funner anyway), but I've seen the type of lifestyle changes that can lead to insanely different spending habits - big city dual-income couples with kids pretty much have no option but to earn like crazy because their expenses will be ridiculous.

My sister and brother-in-law aren't going out for weekly steak dinners, but they are spending like $1,000 a month on their dog. Thousands and thousands a month on their two kids. Their costs are beyond the pale to me, but their daily quality of life is hardly different than mine.

500k is more than enough to ensure I never seek out a "gotta pay the bills" job and make money doing only things I enjoy. I know that may not fit the traditional definition of "retire," but I'd probably do the same even if I was given $10m.

Not really. I was more secretive when I was younger, guarded, and more ashamed of my mistakes and bad decisions. As I've matured and realized that just about everyone has a litany of fuck-ups and improprieties to their history, I've become much more willing to admit those same truths about myself. It often invites others to do the same, and understanding/acceptance is given and shared.

I believe the Switch version has the Yavin DLC content which wasn't on the original Xbox (it may have been one of the first console DLCs), so there should be no difference in terms of content.

I've thought about getting the Switch version myself, but $35 for a game that old is really pushing the limit.

Hmm... I don't think I've ever done an Insanity run as my initial playthrough - I've always done it as a NG+ run, which obviously makes things much easier. In fact, Infiltrator is probably the easiest ME2 class when you're starting fully spec'd and packin a Widowmaker.

But generally speaking, Miranda and Kasumi are considered the best squadmates. Miranda is, IIRC, the only character who can buff the entire squad's weapon damage, and Kasumi has Frag Grenade and Shadow Strike, both of which can be broken. I'd stick with them for... pretty much every main mission.

I'd also do Kasumi's loyalty mission asap to hook her (and yourself) up with the game's best submachine gun.

Nanis23 posted...
RPG is the most idiotic video game genre and applies to so many different kind of games that it has no meaning
The biggest agreed-upon "constant" I've seen is the requirements of stats and XP. Basically, the playable characters have numerically denoted traits (Vitality, strength, stamina) that can be incrementally increased by defeating enemies or completing quests.

To that end, I'd say Zelda isn't an RPG series, though certain entries - namely Zelda II - clearly are, and others are close enough that they could be arguable.

I'd say that BotW is pretty damn close... to the extent that most people would consider it an RPG if Link's health and stamina were denoted with numerical Hit Points and Endurance Points instead of hearts and a stamina wheel.

The United States, Suriname, Papua New Guinea, and a few island countries in the Pacific Ocean are the only countries in the United Nations that do not require employers to provide paid time off for new parents.

According to my mom, new mothers got at least six months off in the 80s. In Iraq. During the Iran-Iraq war.

People rag on shitty CGI, but I feel like sound mixing is the movie production field that consistently screws up the most. Whisper-quiet dialogue followed by super loud music/sound effects is both inexcusable and very common.
100%, and one of the reasons I'm also in the "mandatory subtitles" club. There's something so uniquely annoying/frustrating about trying to love a clearly good movie but getting pissed off because you can barely hear the characters talking.

Yeah, I probably should have said that I'm very unfamiliar, not just "somewhat." Aside from Paul, the only thing I really remembered about the Lynch version is that the Harkonnens - especially the Baron - were gross.

So there really wasn't anything in this new movie that felt missing to me - I never gave one thought about the lack of computers, for example, and I doubt many other casual viewers would question something like that or ponder an answer for it.

I've just got zero clue what people who are unfamiliar with the series are gonna take from this
I'm somewhat unfamiliar (I've seen the David Lynch film but never read a word of the books) and felt this new iteration did a great job introducing and explaining the world. There was never so much exposition that I felt I was being lectured, but enough that I never felt lost with the plot, characters, or world culture.

This is in stark contrast to the Lynch version, where I remember being pretty damn confused (and yeah, I'm sure that's largely because he only had 2-3 hours to communicate the first book's story, while this new one has the luxury of 2-3 hours to show us just a chunk of it).

Loved it. Probably the best big-budget blockbuster I've seen in years.

One thing I particularly enjoyed (without even consciously realizing it until my gf pointed it out) is the almost complete lack of humor. After a decade of Marvel and new Star Wars dominating the blockbuster landscape, I've been forced to stomach way too much of that in every major movie. Not EVERYTHING needs to follow that tired ass formula, and thankfully Dune didn't.

Yeah, one of the senior managers at my old accounting firm job was a pretty xenophobic Republican (president of her college's Young Republicans, would only take island vacations to Hawaii because she was afraid of the Caribbean/Mexico... that type).

One day, I was showing some coworkers an old picture of me in my high school football uniform. They got a kick out of it since I looked so much different back then, so when I asked her if she wanted to see, she actually asked "you're not gonna look like a terrorist, are you?" Then she saw the pic and said, disappointingly, "you look like a terrorist."

I never brought it up to anyone, but I sometimes wonder how much shit I could have gotten her in had I complained to HR.

Also, this ain't a superior, but one of the most lucrative clients at my first accounting firm was a super racist old white man. I heard him drop the N-word about Obama when he was visiting the office, and I didn't have the balls to say anything because I was a nobody and he was a wealthy VIP.
