Religion, even extreme expression, should not be the motivating factor for the antagonist in a Carrie reboot. That is low hanging fruit in 2019. A lot of people already accept that there are a lot of nutcases with religious views, especially ones who are anti gay, anti transgender and so on. That wasnt the case back in the 70s, when Carrie was published. It was more controversial, at least back then, to cast Christianity, for example, in a bad light.

Id rather see them work out an antagonist(s) today as someone more ideal and acceptable in thought and appearance. Jordan Peele did this recently in Get Out, when he showed a family that was very educated, accepting and progressive, but their true selves were deceptive, manipulative and violent.

No, gender is (often incorrectly) assumed by genitalia. There is no correlation.

This is what I mean by changing the character of the mother. She had Carrie so fucking beatdown that there's no way Carl would be dressing in drag. It would not even be something she thought of.

I don't know, Carrie's mom seemed like the type to kill an LGBT person. She already hated her straight daughter and the neighbors daughter, simply because they were women/young women.

If they did make her trans, the period thing is something they would need to change, since that scene took place in the women's bathroom. And trans people in male or female bathrooms is still kind of a recent issue.

Eh... they're telling the story from the inside, so he's the farmer that goes nuts from the story, not a visiting surveyor. And for that role, he's a good choice.

As long as it isn't just "Carrie but she's trans" I'm fine with it. It adds a lot to the story, but only if you treat it respectfully, and it can basically make it a different story, or at least different enough to justify a remake.

That's an incredibly black and white viewpoint. The only reason Carrie is a monster is she hurt people trying to help her. If she'd just killed the bullies and her mother, she absolutely wouldn't be a villain.

King Kong isn't really the villain. Carries mom is the main villain of Carrie, and the point of the story is a life so tragic and torturous that it would turn anyone bad.

She isn't though. She's portrayed as a tragedy. Through her rampage she's still shown as a victim whose mental condition is destroyed by her mother and bullying
