actually this one i AM personally bugged by.
mainly because a lot of 'em are like 'congrats on doing a minor achievement that suggests you're more capable than a sack of potatoes.'

i mean i understand when the graduation is actually something containing real merit, such as a high enough level (e.g., master's) but stuff like junior high/middle school getting one or hell, high school, irk me.

it also sucks for the people who are 'obligated' to go. sit there for hours for at most a ceremony that contains at best half a dozen pics that don't come out like crap or repeats of another.

So far for high school and college graduations I didn't have to go. Not sure about middle school "graduation", but that really wasnt anything special, just the final day of school having an assembly. It was more of a celebration of the "middle school era" of your life ending, rather than celebrating "omg you are smart enough for high school, go you!".

I dont plan on going to my master's graduation ceremony.

But to be honest, a lot of celebrations that we may find frivolous achievements are usually not as much about the achievement itself, but the celebration of an era ending and a new one beginning.

Him, and his followers, view women as inferior, existing solely to f***, and they spout horrible "biotruths" because they would like to convince themselves that they're better than other guys because "at least we admit it", when in fact, they're just dumb guys who view women as inferior, existing solely to f***. There's a huge strain of misogyny running through this entire group of people, just like their political counterparts, Men's Rights Activists. If it makes me appear weak to respect women as people in your eyes, I'll take it, because clearly your eyes are f***ed up."

So... This. Exactly this, all over again.

Women are just as shallow as men, thus i do not "respect women" as a whole. Because guess what? I dont respect men as a whole either! Never lower self-respect for some girl's (or really anyone's) approval. I'm not saying you need to walk around being a total jackass, but never lose your self-respect.

The three things that just about all girls 18 to late 20s (the main demographic of what we are talking about here) place utmost importance on:
1) Age. If you are older than her, she'll be more interested
2) Money. If you make more money than her, she'll be interested
3) Height. If you are taller than her by a fair amount, she'll be interested

All three of those things to me are just as shallow as what men are interested in: looks, sex appeal, and how easy she is to get with. Yes, ill admit women are a bit less shallow in raw looks, but my god do you really think people in this topic are misogynists? Women as a whole are just as shallow and stupid.

So who cares if your goal is to have sex with as many as you want?

9.5/10 for Silver Star and SSSC
7/10 for Legend and Harmony

Silver Star and SSSC had somewhat of a challenge to them, assuming you never power leveled. Legend and Harmony were extremely easy even without and grinding.

Lunar 2 is a better game though. Lunar 1's gets a slight edge to 2 for story, but Lunar 2's gameplay is quite a bit deeper, and its equipment depth is also significantly noticeable.

That picture is ****ing stupid and there is no reason to act like this is an "either/or" situation. They are both important causes and I hope that Sarkeesian is able to use those funds to surround herself with the right people so that she is actually able to get her point across in a way that will cause people to see that there still is a problem with how females are portrayed in media.

LOL at "i hope she can use those funds to surround herself...". Over 150k to make youtube videos? Please.

But honestly my only real problem with what Sarkeesian did was play this huge victim card with the project. Yes, a bunch of middle and high school little boys made absurd comments and threats to her (btw this has never happened in internet history ever). She claims she normally deletes these comments with her other videos, but kept them up this time for this kickstarter....to me it comes across as asking for sympathy money. I dont think that is very....ethical.

To be honest I wish more women would actually enter computer science and try and make their own games that depict women and men the way they want. It would probably be better for the industry as a whole and create more ideas. Roberta Williams is a legend in my book and would easily make it into my "video game hall of fame".

because he thinks the truth? Do you really think anyone would give her money for her kickstarter if she was overweight and ugly?

I wont go around saying anita sarkeesian is the hottest girl around, but shes above average in the looks department. I'm sure plenty of men (she claims that 90% of her donors were men) gave her money because she was female and they thought giving her money would cause her to like them or something (consciously or subconsciously)

Its not taking away from her project, it speaks more volumes on how stupid and confused men have become the past 15 or so years.

For chest/triceps I usually do the following:

Bench Press 1x12,8,4,1,failure: Lately the weight has been: 185/205/225/240/135 (usually I get about 20 reps for the failure set)

One arm cable tricep extension 3x10: 30/35/42.5

Dumbbell Press 3x10: 65/75/80

Dips 3x10: ya

Incline Press 3x10: 135/155/185

2 arm cable tricep extension 3x10: 65/72.5/72.5

Abs if I feel i got some energy still, some days I have it other days i dont.

That was my most recent chest/tricep workout. My rule of thumb for most workouts is whichever muscles i target I do 3 exercises for that muscle group. For back/biceps I do something similar.

Another great chest tri workout

Anyway, my question for you guys is this:

What time of day do you work out?

I prefer late morning or late afternoon (10:30 am to like noon or 5pm to like 630). I read online once that people who workout early in the morning (6am to like 9am) are more likely to keep going to the gym and not slack off, people who go later in the day (and dont skip workouts) are more likely to see bigger gains. Not sure about people who go around midday.

buy a cheap agility ladder (like 12 dollars). Do small quick movements that target the lower part of the calves.

external image

the bottom right drill is a personal favorite of mine, i dont do much of the other 3.

Also, practice jumping at the rim. Sounds dumb and obvious, but you need to practice improving your vert for dunking by trying to simulate the experience as much as possible.

When i was in high school and much leaner (see my introduction post, i was about 6'0" 165lbs playing football), i could easily get 2 hands on the rim. Now with the knee/ankle injury not so much, but im gonna try to get it back after this summer class by doing some air alert this summer.

BTW, air alert is a good program, but it can be dangerous and overkill

Anyone who truly cares about the rights of men would be a feminist. That's because the goal of feminism is not, as r/mensrights may think, to castrate all males and create a society of Amazon wonder women. No, the goal of feminism is to dismantle an unjust social structure and form a new one in which no one, be it man or woman, is treated unfairly based on gender.

i think everyone here thats sane supports gender equality. The problem is though that feminism is not fighting for that anymore. Sometime around the 80s/90s "female empowerment/feminism" became "laugh and desire to see all men fail". Its so ironic that modern day "feminists" argue that masculinity and men need to "change and be willing to express their emotions/stop being so aggressive" yet some of the most prominent feminists are the most heartless and aggressive people around.

My sister graduated with a degree women's studies (who is going back for computer science for obvious reasons) and the more i talk to her the more i cant stand how loud and obnoxious she is. She says things like "i never judge anyone and support equality" and "i don't want to get to know anyone in these low level calculus courses, they are all younger than me and not worth my time".

And yet women are less happy then men.

http://www.nber.org/papers/w14969.pdf

thats because women have more freedoms now, and with more freedoms comes more frustration. I know it sounds bad, but its true.

Now i dont think all women should be forced to be some housewife or anything (or men should be forced to be a primary breadwinner), and honestly id prefer everyone to have as many opportunities as they can, but they also have to realize that you won't always succeed like your parents and dr. seuss always claimed.

As you get more educated on something, you tend to notice your flaws more and more. When i first started working out when i was 15 I felt like a badass for hitting the gym and gaining muscle. Then as i educated myself on food, workout methods, etc, i realized what i was doing wrong more than what i was doing right. It frustrated, and now 9 years later i still feel like i could be doing better with my workouts.

Some of the more obscure ones are

Weapons and Warriors (havent played in years though)
Clue: The Great Museum Caper

and of course Axis and Allies (dates back to what? the mid 60s?). Me and my friends have that game down to a science though, so its gotten kinda stale and just turns into one major battle that decides everything pretty much

EDIT: meh, just looked it up, A+A was made in the early 80s

just another midday bump.

Just finished my workout for chest/triceps (little bit of abs too). Went real well.

bench: 1x12/8/4/1/failure: was most happy about this since i did the set of 4 reps @ 225lbs and the failure set at 135lbs 19 times. I took a fairly long break (about 5 mins) to talk to a person between the 1 rep set and the failure set though, oh well.

1 handed tricep pulldown 3x10:

dumbbell press 3x10:

2 handed tricep pulldown 3x10:

dips 3x failure: was most discouraged with this, only did one set at 10 reps, the rest were 6 reps and pretty meh form

incline press 3x10

and some ab stuff

I got a great question to ask for next week, i kinda want to ask it now, but I figured I'll save my "discussion questions" for when the activity in the topic drops a bit (plus i dont want to come across as some guy whose trying to be a topic moderator or something)

decent article about the mental side of training

http://www.cnn.com/2012/06/05/health/drew-manning-fit2fat2fit-lessons/index.html?hpt=hp_c1

But, I'm interested in starting to run a bit, not only to keep myself a bit more fit, but also as a stress therapy of sorts (I'm told that it's pretty great for that) and to live a bit healthier in general.

I want to ask you if you could teach me a couple of basics about it though, as I've never done that and I haven't exercised in a while. What are the main basics? What should I do before/after running? What should be my goals for the first few times? What speed should I keep? I need all kinds of tips.

this may sound like a cop out answer, but all goals should be relative to what you can already do. If you can already run a 7 minute mile, then the next goal you should have should be around 6:30.

Its kinda hard to judge for your first times running (or working out, or whatever), but thats part of why so many people get discouraged. People think that if they can bench 100 lbs that two plates on each side (225lbs) should be right around the corner. It doesnt work like that. Dont get discouraged

When it comes to running specifically, the first 2ish weeks you'll probably notice your times getting a tad worse (assuming you just started running 3 or 4 times a week). Your legs are gonna be sore, and its going to be hard for you to keep that initial time you set. This first soreness period can be dangerous, so you might want to take it lightly with your workouts (but dont skip them). After that soreness/fatigue period goes away, you'll probably see the biggest gains that you will ever see.

Its kinda like playing a game like diablo 2 or WoW (or maybe i should say those games are kinda like working out). In online games that you have no prior experience of, you first have to take some time to learn the mechanics of the game, then you notice tons of growth and speed in level ups. Then it feels like it takes forever.

im kinda confused about the opinion in this topic then. This ultimaterializerx guy posts:

"Do away with unions and we can start firing all of these jerkoffs."

and nobody really disagrees with him. The opinion i formulated from that post is that he thinks all unions should be illegal, public or private. That goes against the capitalistic values i hold, as making unions illegal is a forced regulation on the economy.

Or is he only talking about the public sector unions? In that case, that would seem mildly hypocritical to support private unionization but not public. Meh, maybe im just not in the loop on the posters here itt.

but I literally have no idea what I'm doing when I stretch. Can you teach me a good routine of proper stretches that'll get me ready for a couple sets of Tennis that don't take very long?

id just spend 5 to 10 mins stretching out mostly leg muscles.
calves
quads (grab the instep of your foot, and start to pull it backward while standing on the other foot....if that makes sense)
hamstrings
then follow that up light but quick movements, such as rocking one leg back and forth while hold onto some sort of railing/fence

Stretching is very important, including for lifting. Always stretch before and after imo

the thing with fad workouts is that you pay more for the classes that cram way too many exercises in a session that also aren't very efficient in the amount of time you put into them plus as pointed out earlier, run the risk of increasing injuries later on with how they grind certain bones

the best workout programs are usually based on the few core compound lifts (squats, deadlifts, bench press, etc.) and not on a million different isolation exercises

this this this this this. I will say there are some great isolation lifts though. For example dumbbell lateral raises to me are very close to deadlifts, bench press, squats, and cleans for importance. Such a good exercise to do.

I appriciate the responses for my question about cheat meals, most people here probably dont have that type of diet so they couldn't respond. I might ask like a weekly question to keep discussion flowing if thats cool with everyone (although i have to admit this grew a lot faster than i expected). For next week I'll probably ask something that probably has more formulated opinions

Nobody is saying that unions have no right to exist, just that they deserve no special privileges and protections from the government. An employer (in this case, the governor of Wisconsin) should have ever right to refuse to negotiate with a particular union for whatever reason they wish.

Also, the Koch brothers spend their own money on politics. Unions use required dues from their employees to support radical socialist political causes which are in direct opposition to the beliefs of the vast majority of their members. There's KIND OF a difference there.

the post right above you says "do away with unions". Kinda implying that they need to be made illegal.

Fun fact: you dont have to join the union where you work. Yes, its true. (http://www.examiner.com/article/unions-101-do-i-have-to-join-the-union-at-my-workplace) You may think you have to, but in every place ive worked where there is a union, I've never had to join. Also nice little "radical socialist cause" throw in when if they are radical, the people who throw millions of dollars the other way are just as radical for other causes.

No, we hate unions because the vast majority of them are public sector employees who exploit their electoral influence over office-holders to get incredibly cushy job and pension benefits that bankrupt the state. California's teacher union is almost singlehandedly responsible for the state's broader government issues and has taken its schools from among the best in the nation to just about the worst.

so you are against what the Koch brothers do also right? Or is it cool for you to have private sector people exploit their electoral influence to get tax breaks that bankrupt the state?

If capitalism is fair, then Unionism must be. If men have a right to capitalize their ideas and the resources of their country, then that implies the right of men to capitalize their labor.

Need to buy some more whey soon, my tub is running low.

Again, ill just post a semi-daily question to generate some discussion:

How much is too much junk food on cheat days/cheat meals? Interested in hearing responses.

i think there is nothing wrong with enjoying new titles and endless sequels, a good game is a good game. When we see too much of endless sequels, there is a problem though.

I dont think gaming has ever seen an era of "too much" new titles though. Even in its earliest days there were sequels and derivatives of past games. Moneytalks (one of my favorite post 70s/early 80s AC/DC song btw) and sequels generate money

question for everyone who does "cheat meal" days (usually one day a week when you eat whatever the hell you want). How much is too much of a cheat day? My day was today and I had more or less straight up junk with a little bit of chicken breast, celery, and greek yogurt during the mid afternoon.

Does a full set of heavy armor really weigh that much? I remember it maybe taking up half of my weight around lvl 6 or so

shopping for whey led me to discover ON's Serious Mass gain powder which has a whopping 1250 calories, 50g of protein, and 250g of carbs per serving! pretty expensive for only 8 servings, though

i'm happy with my whey! but i might get some creatine if i land this part-time job for extra income

I was considering trying ON's Serious Mass powder, if ya dont mind let me know if its a decent product.

Does anyone take BCAAs? The Whey protein i bought from now foods supposedly has bcaas in the whey protein powder (hence why its a tad more expensive), although I'm not sure if its a normal "serving" in a scoop.

took a day off today with the gym, I went every weekday this week. I did break out my agility ladder and did about 20 mins worth of plyometric related stuff. Felt pretty good. I was considering trying air alert again to improve my vertical, but I'm a little antsy on doing the "burn yourself out" method that air alert is about. But a little bit here and there is something I definitely should include.

you can make a sneak character with heavy armor, but I do believe some penalties exist. I prefer light armor for most characters, but i love making a battlemage type in morrowind
