use from time to time, sure. use as a common place to go and check stuff, not for most things. wrestling yeah, maybe an interest or two if a game rolls out and i'm wanting to play with people. otherwise uh... probably not that much?

We should try the forum mode on there. I feel like even if 100% of b8ers went on the discord, there would still be a pretty clear divide between chatters and forumers since the culture is so different. But also a good amount of overlap, so it would be worth it overall.

Though there's something about the 500 post limit and purged topic format that just feels more comfortable though. I could make a bot that simulates that on discord.

Im already there, but I rarely chat. Its so much easier to naturally jump into an ongoing conversation on the board vs a chat.

Voted "Maybe/I don't know/Unsure" because I sort of disagree with the premise of the question. Discord and a message board are just not really comparable (unless we use this threads feature which I've never even seen used before tbh so idk how similar it is). I'm already on the discord but the convos there aren't the same as following a thread here so I just don't think it could replace it, and if anything, the chat scrolling by even quicker would make me less likely to try and follow it.

Oh I don't think there's any better way to ask the question. I just don't really think its migrate-able. I guess I might ask "If board 8 dies, would you spend more time on the discord due to the void left by it" but that would be like "becuase i lost one thing, i now do a different thing", not "i have replaced the thing with another thing that can fill the same role" don't mind me, i am being overly pedantic.

I would try out forum mode there.

here for me if B8 goes down I would just set up mafia on another board.

Here's an example from my test server. I think it needs a few things to feel more like gfaqs:
post limit (500)
purging (4 weeks)
slow mode (only 1 post per user per minute)
some thematic change so it looks less flat

People are just seeing Fandom's attitude toward the forums as the beginning of the end

Like others, I technically joined the Discord but seldom check it. I suppose if the boards shut down without warning, that's currently the default place I'd go to see what was happening, but dunno if I would stay long term.

I regularly post in exactly one Discord server and dunno if the kinda stuff I come to B8 for would work well on Discord.

I'm in a discord with people that are also on the b8 discord so not much will change for me I guess.

Probably not. I don't use Discord and I don't do well in real time chatting environments; I need space to keep editing and deleting posts to feel comfortable. I could probably adjust eventually, but I likely won't even try.

Would suck if this site finally closed. Been my main point of call online since forever. I'd probably go to whatever message board was set up to replace it and/or the Discord.

I was hypothesizing CE's doom less than a year ago when Fandom deleted the Politics board and I mean yeah look what happened.

Fandom wanted a burger without pickles - we're the pickles.

B8 is like the perfect storm of what I want

The Discord forum mode is very bad imo, but I'd probably use it resentfully if the actual forum went down. I like it fine as a chat service and already use the B8 Discord for that though. (Although I only really visit some of the sub channels)

I guess maybe I'd check in there more often, but Discord is a bad platform that's begun its own downward slide. Forums/message boards have a lot going for them that Discord, even with its faux-forum mode, can't replicate: the ability to maintain ongoing conversations intended to be referenced and backread is the main thing, since it's a very "in the moment" design, as well as the lack of searchability, the social pressure that comes with its user list/"<name> is typing" format, the ephemerality of messages making it less worthwhile to make longform contributions, etc. I think you can only retain the vibe by moving to another forum.

I'm in it and use it, but we should still have some form of traditional forum

Probably the same thing that goes wrong with every attempted "migration" when a community shuts down - No one could all agree on their ideal place to migrate, so the attempt would fail.

A Board 8 Subreddit exists

Not many of the regulars are left, but this brings me back to GameFAQsASCII.

What a great time that was, everyone making their own sidebar "ads" and leveling up to get funky perks.

Yeah, I didn't see your post 41 before typing that up but that sounds right. There is a train and a II in the URL so that's probably why I thought it was one of those!
