The Elden Ring expansion release date is basically a threat at this point for when FromSoft is going to steal my time.

Curious that this trailer lands less than a week after FromSoft buying the rights to Elden Ring from Bandai Namco went public...

Need to (re) finish the game again. I beat the entire thing all bosses everything only for my dumb game to brick my system right at the very end when you choose your ending anf send me all the game back to right before the giant fight at the top of the mountain :/

I just picked it up for the first time in over a year to fool around. Zipped around the world to get my Reduvia to +9 without beating any main bosses. Maybe I'll use this as my DLC character - but I have several that can conceivably work.

Oh, and I do actually have a file specifically dedicated to this DLC - it has every single site of grace and unique item pickup (apart from super low drop rate weapons) through the snow area, but I didn't trigger any point of no return stuff just in case.

This is such a massive and glaring loose end that the only way it doesn't happen is if they're already working on Elden Ring 2 with Miquella as the plot's driving force

What's the best lore/history video for Elden Ring?

I played it and platinum'd it, but damn if I can remember the story beats. I just loved exploring a big ass world with lots of cool bosses and dungeons and shit.

The answer is still just to watch all the VaatiVidya stuff like ever FromSoft game. He's the most popular for a reason!

Lol the expansion is labeled as a "Map" on the PlayStation store.

I really hope this is what's rumored, which it basically being Elden Ring 1.5 because they just decided to combine multiple DLCs that were planned into one big thing. Don't get me wrong, I have played every FromSoftware DLC, but the idea of it adding like 15+ hours is kind of crazy to me.

For $40, it better add more than that.

Even if it adds just 1 more major area, that's like 25 hours of gameplay

And in terms of content, Miyazaki says it's a new map about the same size or larger than Limgrave. Given he's a little dodgy about the true size, seems likely it's going to be denser or have more legacy dungeons than Limgrave as well. Sounds major to me.

They really do give you Reduvia SUPER early for such an obscenely busted weapon

The Dark Souls 2 influence was obvious immediately but it's cool to see Miyazaki praise it specifically.

I don't even know if DS2 still has tons of haters like it used to, but it's only aged better with time.

DS2 was fine but generally the weakest overall compared to the others for me. However, it had the best pvp of them all

Been replaying From Soft games, and currently working through DS2(as well as Sekiro). DS2 definitely has improvements in it's combat, and some aspects of it's design. The problem is that its level design is a combination of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls and instead of being a coherent design, it's all over the place. This was more or less perfected in Elden Ring, but I also disagree with the idea that Demon's Souls and Dark Souls both had linear progression. You can still tackle things in those games in almost any order if you wanted to, DS2 just made it 'easier'.

The fact that DS2 design isn't as polished as Elden Ring, Dark Souls, or even Demon's Souls makes it a lot harder to get back into. And like I mentioned I'm also playing through Sekiro, and while being a more linear experience the amount of polish throughout every design in Sekiro is making me appreciate it a lot more, especially in comparison while playin DS2.

Dark Souls 2 is still better than most games, but I'd pretty comfortably put it at the bottom in comparison to modern From games.

DS2 is structured like a tree where you start in Majula and end at one of the dead ends, then teleport back. DS3 is probably more linear overall, where it's straight shot from the beginning to the end of the game, but each major area is a twisty maze that feels a lot more like DS1. Even though there is only 1 entrance and 1 exit to each area, you still get a lot of the same DS1 vibes. That's also how Elden Ring's legacy dungeons feel like DS1, even though they are embedded in an open world that isn't like DS1 at all.

Dark Souls 2 to Sekiro is an unfair comparison given Sekiro has totally different mobility which resulted in some of the coolest vertical level design FromSoft has ever done (which they obviously learned from). I also think the level design is better than DS3's which is only okay; it's more polished but overall blander and the areas run together compared to DS2's weird mishmash, plus the DLC areas are fucking miserable while DS2's DLCs have some of the best dungeon in the series. In a way, not being able to draw a coherent world is a strength in DS2 while 3 mostly sticks to a more conservative and linear approach. DS1 is the best of both and as you said they perfect the DS2 mishmash in Elden Ring.

(I also don't agree it's less polished than DeS but I'll save it)

Sort of, DS2 has a hub with 4 spokes approach. Some of the paths converge, but for the first 2/3rds of the game you can go down any after the intro area. Then they all converge for a linear run to the ending. Dark Souls 1 is kind of the opposite: you start with 3 paths but two of them are "wrong" in that they lead to dead ends. But for the most part the intended progression sequence is linear with some side areas until you get through Anor Londo and 4 paths open up. But the neat thing Dark Souls 1 does is build in side areas and some cool but esoteric sequence breaking like Kaathe during the linear segment, so you don't feel nearly as boxed in.

DSP is as consistent as ever I see.

Except the part where even without the Master Key there are multiple ways into Blighttown and you can beat the game without ever setting foot in Lower Undead Burg let alone Depths, something that a lot of people don't even realize.

Dark Souls 2 will always be the awkward stepchild of the Soulsbornes and deservedly so, bunch of decisions that just don't feel as nice as the other games. The DLC and Scholar in general improve it but it's still DS2 at the end of the day, a very good game by any other metric but the weakest of the Soulsbornes
