I hate First Class which I'm aware is a minority opinion but it's the perfect example of those movies being less X-Men team movies and more focused on singular people (Sniktbub in the original trilogy, Xavier and Mags in the FC trilogy) rather than the team as a whole.

And they did Darwin super dirty.

my only problems with First Class are 1. casting Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique (which wasn't too bad in this movie but expectedly brought down the following movies) and 2. doing Darwin super dirty

Man I am still upset at Darwin. I didn't know the character before but he was so cool and was definitely the person I was most interested.

Apparently having a superpower where you can literally survive anything still isn't strong enough to overcome the "black guy dies first" cliche.

It would have been a great death in order to build to a future return, honestly. The followthrough was the issue.

If there was one thing in Days of Future Past that actually rustled me was when Magneto was naming mutants that were killed and out of nowhere says Emma Frost.

That hit me in all the wrong ways.

But that said, they really fucked her up in First Class anyway. I don't know if she even had a single line in that movie. First Class is good, but it had some very weird decisions at times.

In the comics, has Darwin ever interacted with ability dampeners or people/mutants who can naturally suppress others' powers? Just wondering if or how he adapts to that type of situation.

as far as I know he hasn't, but I have to imagine it would work because power dampening isn't inherently a danger. I think the question is if it'd be permanent. Darwin has survived Death's touch directly, and has survived being reduced into code.

I'd guess in the way Marvel does things, Darwin's power would be sapped, and then he could be killed, but he'd go to some sort of afterlife out of reach of the power dampener and then just teleport right back to Earth again

He didn't say generic nobody, he said generic outrage merchant which is 100% correct. CD is just a DLC skin for TheQuartering.

I aint watching that.

But its a false premise anyway. Two of the highest grossing films of the year are superhero movies. When you account for China MCU movies are doing pretty damn well. I think when people talk about superhero movies struggling this year what they actually mean is DC movies. And we all know what happened there!

I think it's kinda silly to say the genre is dying or declining. It's directly tied to the quality. They haven't been doing well lately because the movies just haven't been as good. Pretty simple imo.

Just make a new Spider-Man movie and the MCU will be just fine

Also make movies with the other popular superheroes

Speaking of though, have any of you seen The Flash? Cause I watched it last night outta curiosity and holy shit... What a fucking disaster of a movie lol. It was entertaining, but in all the wrong ways.

Really?? Huh interesting. Idk maybe it's because the trailers actually had me kinda hopeful, so I actually had slight expectations rather than expecting garbage like ususal with DC movies.

I haven't seen The Flash yet but boy the response caught me off guard after all the touting from prominent figures

like yeah James Gunn is working with DC now but there was a lot unrelated people coming out to back it up like Stephen King & Tom Cruise

They were definitely paid to say nice things lol

it was funny because I definitely recall some "I don't like supes but this one is legit" rhetoric...... google lines that up with Stephen King

Cuz China, mainly. Hollywood movies by and large are not doing nearly as well in China as they used to for a variety of factors, and half the recent MCU movies didnt even get a Chinese release. Thor L&T and GotG3 both outgrossed their predecessors excluding China, with Quantumania topping the first Ant-Man when China is set aside. Actually when you discount China No Way Home made about $200 million more than Infinity War did! Similarly some other markets are no longer getting releases of MCU films such as Russia.

As for The Flash, Ive not seen it but it reviewed ok (63-64% RT). Most people I have spoken to seem to think its alright but forgettable with some very bad effects. I dont think those first reactions were payola but clearly cherrypicked. The influencer reactions were much more mixed. Test scores were reportedly good but not as amazing as hyped. I do wonder though as it did score better than Batgirl, what that would have been like.

The Flashs first hour was dumb, but after that I enjoyed the cameos and the films overall message was not the norm. Sometimes the good guys dont win and not everything can be fixed. I always appreciate going outside the box.

But it also feels like he didn't learn anything since he changed the cans of tomatoes at the end anyway

I'm not watching that youtube, but if the general argument is that the "current era of superhero film has peaked in popularity" I'm going to agree. I foresee a period of decline/plateauing.

In fairness, CD does put more effort in than TheQuartering, who is an alcoholic, gross loser with some of the worst videos on YouTube, who is so awful that you have to be stupid to realize there's no conviction behind anything he says and be entertained by the same regurgitated slop he pushes out.

TheQuartering is even more funny because any time he peeks out of his hole in YouTube, he comes out humiliating himself every single time.

CriticalDrinker at least has a little bit of respect for himself because, while his videos are all the same outrage BS, he can actually communicate with other people without being completely embarrassing.

Not directly MCU related, but it came out that Rotten Tomatoes was basically taking money for good reviews.

I mean, it's not really RT taking money for reviews, it's individual critics. RT is the system being manipulated, not the ones doing the manipulating

You can blame RT for not having strict enough regulations regarding which critics can be counted toward the scores, but that's not exactly a clear line to draw.

You can also criticize RT for having too simple of a system, like someone who gives a movie a 7/10 can choose to call that a good or bad review without actually changing their review any, but that's also kinda the whole basis of the site (otherwise everyone would just go to Metacritic or something)

While reading the Vulture article that criticized\exposed RT, seems that ever since Fandango purchased them, the pool of critics increased in a way that gathered more absolute nobodies who self-publish their reviews (which are the kind of guys who accept being bribed to give good scores).
