I voted the NES Classic/Switch option as a guess. The gameplay is fun, but it certainly benefits from save states.

I played through the first dungeon on someone's game & watch thing a few months ago. (Of all three games on there)

I did a whole run on the switch online though a few years before.

This is just making me want to nominate Zelda II for GotM Replay

3DS/liked it. I think I had tried it before that via emulation and gave up in the first few minutes.

It was like 15 years ago when I played it. Didn't get very far but I liked it, it was different. Also remember playing the beginning of a first-person 3D fan remake of the game, that was cool.

Played it for the first time in 2020 and didnt like it

Why is there no "I have never played it" option?

It was fine. My memories of it are positive.

Played it for the first and only time around 2016. I used savestates and think I would've found it unplayable without them due to the frustrating combat. But I did find value in just the overall progression of the game and the exploration. I'm not sure what that counts as.

Like last year or two years ago on Switch online. I played it on GBA like 20 years ago and on an emulator probably before that. Never liked it and have never finished it

Tried it on GameCube Collectors Edition and fell off early. Tried again on Switch Online, liked it up to a point, but didnt finish it because working my way back to the last couple of palaces after dying started to feel too tedious

Played it on NSO last year? I think. It was pretty fun.

Speaking of LoZ randomizers, can you point me to that one LoZ1 randomizer where you made a ridiculous come-from-behind victory? I remember making a topic and cheering you on during it, and you said it was crazy that was the video I randomly chose to make to cheer you on with. I liked those early days of the LoZ1-randomizer best!

Are you asking about the randomizer itself or the match? I honestly don't remember which match this is anyway, lol

The match. Ah well!

If it was years ago then I don't have much chance of remembering and I don't know if the vods are saved forever. If I had some information to jog my memory then maybe, but I've been involved in so many matches over the years that it'd be hard to remember.

Yeah, all I remember was somebody was ahead for most of it but then blew it in castle 8 significantly enough for you to make a sweet comeback. S'all good if that's not enough, it's all I got.

Late 00s I believe and thought it was a mediocre at best sidescroller by even NES standards

Anyway, on topic I never respected Zelda 2. Didn't like it upon release on the NES, and while I got much further on the 3DS thanks to save states I also very much stayed frustrated with it. I think there was something hidden late in the game that got me tired of playing at that point and I was already using a guide.

I wouldn't mind seeing Nintendo try a thoughtful sequel to the formula again with modern sensibilities. I just didn't like it as is.

I played it on that GameCube collection. Did not enjoy it; I couldnt get through the cave to the southern half of the map.

Played in the past year but didn't beat it. With all the games available, I have a tendency to not finish games in a single go. Not sure which game distracted me, but I still have the save for when I want to go back to it. Since we've talked about so much that may be soon.

I beat it in 2008, loved it but it was a pain to get to the last dungeon.

2003/2004 with Zelda Collectors's Edition

This poll's teaching me this game probably turned some opinions around once you could save state and rewind.

Sign of its difficulty, certainly. I got deeper feelings on its kind of difficulty, but I don't know that the numbers speak to that.

I have it on Gamecube (Collector's Edition disc). I don't remember the last time I played it. I liked the game by design, but iirc there was a part that I got seriously stuck on (not a puzzle, just a dungeon I think?) so I've never beaten the game. I remember that I used to periodically throw attempts at it, but who knows how long it's been since then. I'm guessing probably not any time since I was in college, so I'll vote for Wii era.

I don't see how save states would help you in this game. It's an action game, you have to actually do stuff in real time.

Basically it's disliked by ppl who didn't get good.

Well even in a Mega Man game, save states let you break up a level into smaller chunks and spare you from retrying content.

Right now in this topic people liking Zelda 2 is ahead of people disliking it by eight votes...and right now in the other LoZ-topic about the worst mainline Zelda game, Zelda 2 is winning by three votes.

LoZ is a damn good series.

This topic is wrong though but that's fine.

3DS Ambassador Program, didn't like it

Beat it on the Wii and it was a slog. Return trips have been way better because of save states. Just one of those games where the basics are fun, but the design kinda blows.

I've beaten it three times over the years (once with zero save states) AND one randomizer. Most recent vanilla playthrough was around 3 years ago.
It's not a good game.
