After getting the chicken charm I decided to stock up

made it to the castle. man, i was saving up resources for the first 5 chapters to the point of my inventory constantly being full - but then the cabin and everything afterwards just used *everything* and now i've got... just nothing left. maybe i'm overusing the shotgun, just all the rooms from cabin onwards really didn't seem like single handgun shots would help much. i'm back to 0 shotgun bullets again. i've got a lot of rifle bullets at least.

my in-game timer is at 14 hours and 17 minutes starting chapter 7 for those wondering how slow i meant by slow.

So since Normal says it offers you Assisted when you game over I just went to hardcore.

It's like playing for the first time again it's so hard lmao. Granted part of it was my usual "I have no idea if I like inverted controls or not" phase when I haven't played shooters in a while.

A little disappointed that The ski lifts were cut, and that the second gigante fight was replaced by that short Mendez encounter. I didnt mind that encounter, I think its good to have him appear more. But I liked the part in the original where you had to choose between the sisters and gogante!

And also, when one of the Comm chats come up between Hunnigan and Leon, Hunnigan's voice is completely absent?

ch6 yeah i liked the zipline. i was sad about both those changes. i don't wanna be one of those "grrr how dare they make changes" purists but i do sort of feel they cut some rooms with character and replaced them with, like, just going through corridors shooting ganados? like the original had that cool room with the cranes and crates or whatever when you wake up after del lago, the expanded lake here was awesome but the new section was just some caves. and the double el gigante room is now also just run through the chasm and kill a few ganados. i liked the chainsaw sisters room more in the original too i think, having to keep moving ashley along from one spot to the next. idk i'm nitpicking though, the remake is still great

castle looking to have even more significant changes so far though. which makes sense, the village is the iconic one just like how they kept the RPD nearly 1:1 in re2 as well, less people care about the castle's purity

Working this weekend means I only made it to the beginning of the island. Some big changes in castleland, but I'm digging them.

Castle was easily my favorite RE4 section, so I'm a bit hesitant to hear about big changes there.

Man, the cabin holdout, Mendez fight, and the stupid catapults exhausted all of my healing supplies. All of my eggs, gone.

Also does this game have a dynamic difficulty system similar to the original? I failed the Bella Sisters fight twice and noticed that I picked up different items before the fight (notably, an additional grenade).

i am still just barely staying afloat after the cabin. honestly wondering if my luck will run out soon. this game is brutal on hardcore.

i don't think so - i've restarted a ton, and if anything i feel the game is actually punishing me. i could swear sometimes a segment that was easy the first few times suddenly has an enemy aggro-ing me from a much further range for all my subsequent resets. it's like the game knows. but i haven't noticed a difference in drops. i would notice because when i get an ammo drop i'm super relieved, then i get hit and reload and do it again and its all money drops.

i've been noticing sometimes that when i kill an enemy that is behind a fence, it won't drop an item. not sure if bug or intended. kind of unfair i feel to punish me for being tactical?

I defo feel like the game is being a lot more harsh to me. I got to the lake and had a quick look at how some streamers reacted to the opening few chapters. They all seem to get way better item drops and easier kills despite being on Hardcore as well. I even missed the crow flashbang treasures because for some reason the wolf in the area came at me before i even saw them so they flew off.

before you go to the cabin, the Merchant is like hey man, youd better go do side stuff before you go here. to hint that youre locked out of the village after the cabin, which is nice of him

so I run back to try to get to the lake where apparently I had missed a request

Like I said, I'm only to the start of the island, but they've actually made Ashley a great character so far and I'd love to see this version again down the road (lol side characters coming back). And most importantly, they kept the fist pump.

Knife fight 2.0 was incredibly good and instant nuclear heat on Krauser helps fuel it.

I'm a dingus and missed the last two requests in the castle because I just powered through to the clock tower.

I can't believe the giant salazaar robot made the cut this time, but it was done much logically so I'll allow it.

I only started last night and am busy for the next couple days, so progress will be slow. Made it to the start of Chapter 4, found and fully upgraded the Red9 (as much as the game currently allows). I've also fully upgraded the knife and DLC shotgun - which seems a little weak, but I'm a sucker for things that allow me to save *that* much inventory space.

So far, I'm really enjoying the reimagined/expanded world - this definitely seems larger than the original game, and the beginning of Chapter 4 allows for more open-world exploration than RE4 ever had.

The exploration is my favorite aspect so far, and I'm undecided on how I feel about the gunplay relative to the og. It just feels a little less "impactful," though that may be because the original's sound design is one of the best in gaming history and made things like critical headshots and melee attacks truly satisfying.

Finally, one surprising thing I noticed is that the knife parry seems fully spam-able. You can stand in front of a singular ganado, mash L1, and be guaranteed the parry every single time.

i have been saved by the way I saved. Id been alternating files, and i had a save right after Gigante but before meeting Ashley, so I was able to go back to the lake and barely have to redo anything

I LOVE the exploration in this! Between this and Village, I'm starting to feel like a true open-world RE game could be such an amazing idea

Agree so hard with this. It's got the best like...feedback that I know of in a game.

I never used the TMP in original but am loving it here.

Can you skip the first gigante fight seeing as you can now dock just outside the farm in this? I went back to get the treasure there but didn't bother to see if you can run all the way back to the village.

Yeah I'm like over halfway through the game (assuming the later parts aren't MEGA expanded) and while I do think they made some missteps, overall its pretty good and most of the changes are for the better.

I don't think I'll ever get over how much worse the dialogue is though. There's just something great about how all of the characters deliver their lines and how unabashedly cheesy it all is in the original that is fantastic that the remake loses a lot of. They tried, though, I'll give them that. They recognized it was something to keep and attempted to do so, but it just kind of fails to.

So far the only thing that seems like a huge misstep is everything related to Ramon.

Which, you know, is a lot, so I can't exactly let it slide, but the game is still excellent.

If you look at it as it's own game instead of as a remake it's frankly one of the best games I've played in a loooong time.

Not sure how I feel about the castle so far. It's definitely spookier/darker/more culty, but I'm not sure how long it's going to be. Itr does feel like it's supposed to open up like the Village area, so hopefully that happens here.

despite starting Sunday morning was hoping to finish my first playthrough before going back to work tonight. Sadly only up to the 2nd typewriter on the island. Oh well

Can you only do a shooting range at a particular location, and you get other shooting ranges later? Because I cannot for the life of me find all seven medallions in 1-C.

Every subsequent shooting range has all the previous ones

1 C Skulls took me forever to figure out. I figured out the last one because I was fucking around.
