I can almost guarantee that they've reworked Separate Ways to be more fluid and anything major cut (like U3, which was given a backstory in the files. Also the second El Gigante fight is probably also moved there since there is a lower path and arena visible on the map as you go through the Bella sister path with Leon) will instead make its appearance there. I was hoping SW wouldn't get milked for DLC again, but alas, now we wait. Again. But also it's still going to be SW with this Ada so...

Made it to the island.

My sentiments so far remain unchanged, as I probably need to play the game a billion times over to get a definitive feel on how I feel about the changes made. I think its mostly hits as the things that have been moved around and re-worked flow better, and just, logistically make more sense. There are misses though

They completely neutered my boy Ramon, and it's missing a lot on the original cheese of the dialogue, you can tell they reigned in a lot, but then again the original is so great because it leans so much into. I am glad they are referencing certain lines with the in game challenges, ect.

One thing I've noticed is that the shotgun feels much weaker than in the original game. It's not knocking waves of enemies off their feet anymore, it's not blowing off heads in a single shot, it's just sort of staggering a single enemy for a brief moment, even if it's right next to you.

From what I've read they wanted an Asian actress to play Ada. And I guess they didn't look too far after Welcome to Raccoon City.

She was only in the after credits stinger for like 30 seconds, but she wasn't the best there either.

Finished the village. Overall it was better than the original but the last bit after the cabin was a bit weaker. Dunno why but it felt a bit rushed. Soon as you beat the sisters it was like ok straight into the Mendez fight and then straight into the castle. I don't mind the second Gigante fight being dropped, but i kinda miss the cable car bit and felt it could've been a nice gap between the final two fights mentioned above. That weird running section could've been moved to the end as well. Would've lined up with what Leon says about the factory being on fire attracting attention.

Couldn't care less about 5 tbh. If they do end up remaking it i'll be waiting for a sale. I hate how 'new' Chris seems to be the one thrown down our throat now. I loved CV but they'd just turn him into the boulder beefcake from the newer games if they remade it.

The real question about RE5 is not whether theyll remake it, but whether theyll keep the co-op as an integral element. RE5 is the first game that doesnt even attempt to be scary, and with the more serious tone theyre going for, co-op is inherently less scary.

Is it me or are the hitboxes on the shooting range for the third set of challenges kinda bullshit? I swear that multiple times I shot the dynamite and it would register as a regular hit.

Also at some point I shot four targets that were lined up (with the punisher), and it hit everything except the one in front. Which is the one I was explicitly aiming at.

Needless to say getting an S on those was kind of a pain, but I did finally get the Merchant Charm!

...after spending literally all of my money on upgrades and maxing the Red 9 (+exclusive) like 15 minutes prior

I'm nearing what is presumably the end of Chapter 10.

Don't get me wrong, I'm having a great time with the game, but despite its triumphs (especially after the middling RE3), this remake is falling short of the legendary og.

Leon's enhanced mobility, knife play, and stealth abilities are cool, but the enemies aren't as fun to fight, the music and sound don't have nearly the same oomf, and the game simply isn't as creepy. Enemies in the original had an "awkwardness" to them, and whether intentional or not, it contributed to a completely unique and discomforting experience. Examples include:

  • The dead-eyed stares of the bald castle zealots as they slowly close in on Leon
  • The maniacal laugh of those same zealots when Leon is running around for his life
  • The janky movements of garridors, and them actually sheathing and unsheathing their claws like wolverine
  • The mad scream of Dr. Salvador as he swings his chainsaw
  • The wet-sounding footsteps of novistadors as they run around, often unseen
  • The awesome transparent cloaking of novistadors (as opposed to the almost childish iguana-cloaking that I've so far seen in the remake)


I've read chunks of this topic and do agree with the common sentiment that most characters have lost some of their charm thanks to the modernizing of the script and line delivery (and Ada just sounds bad), but I expected that and can let it go. I'm having a tougher time accepting the dev team kinda neutering many of the enemies and making them less creepy/threatening.

Am I being crazy here, or did anyone else notice this?

Yes and no. Novistadors are definitely the biggest downgrade. I do think the new zealots are creepy in their own way though, since they actually feel more like crazy cultists here. And yet other enemies are EVEN creepier. I just got through Chapter 13 and the Regeneradors are even more terrifying here in my opinion, as well being more difficult to deal with which only adds to the horror.

I'm actually of the opinion that nearly every named character has been made a tier or two better than they were in the original.

But as far as enemies go, I haven't noticed too much in the way of bad changes but some of the good changes are amazing. Like the red cloaked cultist with the lantern.

Without getting into my deep dive yet though, I'll say that if Separate Ways is more fluid and fills in what (little) was cut from the main game this could be an all-timer. As is I do find it better than the original and more in line with what I wanted from a game titled Resident Evil 4. Even if they were hamstrung by the original killing Umbrella off screen.

i'm not a fan of "cheesy" stuff really, i like my media to take itself pretty seriously usually - so i'm happy with the changes. ashley goes from a generic damsel-in-distress to a real character. luis is way improved and i actually care about his story in this game. ada... hard to say because of the voice acting, it leaves too much of a negative impression. even krauser is fleshed out.

i'm also someone who isn't a diehard fan of the original - i played it as a kid and then replayed a couple years ago when i got back into the series when REmake2 came out, i thought it was great, but i have no particular attachment to it in the sort of way a diehard fan loves every detail of it - so for me the new engine, new graphics, ability to aim with my mouse, it's all an improvement. though there are still rooms i miss.

Pretty much agree with all of this. R2make was able to maintain a lot of the original's feel/tension despite being a complete graphical/gameplay overhaul. This one feels a bit too safe. This is largely due to the og Gamecube version being just so ... weird. The atmosphere just isn't creepy.

It's not a huge deal - still a great game.

I think the original game married tone and script and art direction perfectly. I like what they attempted here but it's a bit half and half, sometimes the original lines sound less impactful because they're trying to be subtle. "Where's everybody going, bingo?" Doesn't really hit the same, feels a little forced here when they changed other dialogue to be less campy.

I'm confused now. What do you mean "expanded treasure map" vs "the ones you buy in game"? You buy the treasure map for each region and it shows you that region's treasures on the map. I didn't think of the treasure maps as "expanded" though, just as... treasure maps. Was there an un-expanded one?
