The year you first played __ minus the year __ released equals something.

I can think of three games I first beat and enjoyed a decade after their release, and only one of them would I say that I loved.

Enjoyed:. Super Mario Bros. 2: the Lost Levels (~20 years after release)
Enjoyed: Heavy Rain (10 years old)
Loved: Final Fantasy X (10 years old)

Combat for the Atari was released in 1977. If I wasn't playing it 10 years later, it had to be pretty close just because I'd already be pretty young in '87.

I generally mostly current games, so I don't really have much that fits the bill. Higurashi and Tsukihime are 10/10 games I played ~8 years after they came out, though that was mostly because of the time it took for them to be translated. Can't think of any other 10/10s I played more than 5 years after their release date.

I don't know about "love", but I played Solomon's Key 2 (1992) via Switch Online this year and enjoyed it a lot.

Another game I played his year is Paper Mario (2000), which I would probably say is in the "love" tier.

Finally there's Symphony of the Night (1997), which I also played this year and enjoyed a lot but I'm not sure if I would go as far as to say I love it.

So my answer is somewhere in the 22-30 range I guess depending on how strict you are with the term love

So around 2006 I got into trying out a bunch of the SNES classics I missed when I was younger - specifically I loved Earthbound, Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid, and Mega Man X. I think Mega Man X was the oldest when I played it at about 13 years. I also may have played Super Metroid a bit later so that is another candidate as well.

Great catch -- I played this 10-11 years after its release and it would be in the love-category for me.

Also I needed to extend my poll options. Welp.

About 21 years. "The Amazing Spider-Man vs. the Kingpin", Sega CD. I thought it was just a port of the Genesis game until an article on Cracked showed a bad ending and got me interested enough to learn it was a totally different game with the same plot. Love that game.

If you count playing the DS remake of Chrono Trigger (as my first exposure to the game at all) while using the release date of the original, then I think that wins at 13-14 years. Otherwise I think it's Trails in the Sky which I played 12 years after it released.

Metal Gear Solid is another option, but I played Twin Snakes which I understand to be substantially different from the original, and using the Twin Snakes release date I only played it 8-9 years after release.

Not quite sure how to quantify "love" in this case. Oldest game I can think of that I really liked and instantly grabbed me was Fire'n Ice, which is an NES game, on NSO. That would have been around 29 years old last year. Finished every puzzle in that game. Still holds up really well IMO .

Maybe Galaga. I got really into that with Tekken 1 to the point I'd play it just to play Galaga. Must have been a little over 10 years old by then.

I'm not sure Planescape had passed the 10 year mark for me when I played it - probably not. I guess if we count the JPN release Trails is basically there but I wouldn't count it that way personally.

I didn't play CT until the DS re-release but while I liked it I dunno if I'd say loved.

Hmm, Baldur's Gate 1+2 probably? That or Planescape, probably. Baldur's Gate has way more of a lead on time from release (well over 10 years), but I like Planescape more.

Not very good considering Paper Mario is only a few years later and demolishes it in every way! (Also in general I played that game all the way through on the SNES classic - same way I played FFVI - and unlike FFVI, I wasn't that big of a fan.)

Mega Man series. Never played it as a kid, wasn't until my early 20s that I decided to give it a try. Played through every game, as well as the first three X games.

Easily my favorite of the classic side-scrolling platforming style. For comparison I have no love for any of the older Mario games.
