This was a movie that had been on my radar for a while, but as a result of the pandemic I either lost track of it or wasn't willing to go to a theater when/if it released, or something. In any case I decided to watch it now that it's available on Crunchyroll. In typical fashion for a romance/drama, I really liked the 2 leads and their dynamic, but lots of the drama felt either rushed or just kind of dumb. Which I guess averages out to "this was decently good". Feels a bit like "A Silent Voice at home" in a lot of ways, but even an inferior version of that movie is still reasonably good. --- I didn't do guru this year but azuarc can be in my sig anyways. <cite>pyresword posted [p:967781676] in Anime &... Something is terribly wrong when Phantom of the Idol is my person fifth-best of the season. I just finished it, it only had ten episodes. It's lucky I inherently liked the idea of a lazy idol working with an idol ghost, because that premise had to carry it. The animation wasn't anything special, and the CGI during the songs was downright bad. The writing also left a lot to be desired. The best part was the frequent cutaways to the fans. They were all such over-the-top fangirls who went nuts over a lazy idol, that was fun. I liked Asahi too but the story didn't have the talent or the courage to truly explore the emotions of a dead idol who isn't ready to move on yet. That said, it's a sequel heavy season, and sequels almost always get talked about less. We've got Devil is a Part Timer Season 2, but it's a 10 year old show so the number of people who have actually seen season 1 is gonna keep going down. Made in Abyss 2 is obviously a huge deal, but there's not much to....talk about with it? It's just quietly being one of the best anime of the year in the background. People have given up on Overlord. Biscuit Hammer was SUPPOSED to be the shining jewel of the season, but it got full Berserk 2016'd so now it's a laughing stock. I know there's more to Prima Doll than that, but it doesn't use the war/action to hook people the way Lycoris Recoil used it's action. Instead you have a show focused on a bubbly, oblivious robot girl surrounded by other cute robot girls who are damaged and haunted by their pasts.
