Guess it's time to get my free trial to watch Harley since that's the man thing I want HBO Max for. I probably won't have time to watch Doom Patrol and Peacemaker unfortunately.

Season 3 is releasing weekly after dumping the first 3 episodes last week, just a heads up.

Is there something I'm missing about Smiling Friends? I see a lot of praise but every clip from the first few eps I saw posted struck me as unfunny. And I loved Bushland Adventures so I know that style of humor can land for me. I don't really get it.

Clips can't do the show justice.

The entire series so far is less than 2 hours, should just give it a watch!

I have seen no reason to try it other than "it's good!" and it takes a lot of commitment for me to sit down and give something my time.

That's why I'm asking what specifically I am missing. I don't care about spoilers if there's some weird twist.

The only thing I know about the Harley Quinn cartoon is a scene where two "losers" are shown wearing T-shirts that say things like #ReleasetheSnyderCut and #DecanonizeTheLastJedi.

That would be the only part you know

Looked up to make sure, apparently one guy is wearing a shirt that says "Release the Snyder Cut" and another wears a shirt that says "The Last Jedi is Not Canon".

It's not really supposed to be a coherent alternate universe in the exact same way Bojack is, it's cartoon logic. Despite being considered a serious show, Bojack could actually get pretty wacky, and if you invert the wacky:serious ratio you wind up with Tuca & Bertie.

Killing HBO Max means one less streaming service to compete with. Surely there are some people who would choose to replace it with Discovery+, right?

Isn't the plan to fold some of the HBO Max content into Discovery Plus? That would certainly be enticing to some people.

Ive admittedly watched a fair amount of it, but it gets too repetitive. If youve watched a handful of episodes youve nearly seen everything it has to offer over its tons of seasons because there isnt much else variety it can offer

Well I've said Discovery+ not merging entirely into HBO Max has been a huge mistake this whole time!

This would have been the smart thing to do. But apparently they aren't smart.

The main reason I can think of to close HBOMax instead is that they think too many people are getting it for "free" with AT&T phone plans and cable subscriptions. So they want to use Discovery+ or make a newer service that everybody has to pay for.

On a side note, thank god Sony was able to buy Crunchyroll from Warner before the Discovery merger. Discovery probably would have killed it.

Oh shit, I never even thought of that. Everyone up in arms about CrunchySony buying Rightstuf today, but the alternate futures was much darker.

I wonder if masterplum has ever heard of the BBC and how that operates (spoilers: its not capitalism).

If anything I would argue that removing the profit motive results in significantly better programming.
