I hope Flash is the biggest box office disaster in ages if they refuse to remove Miller before releasing it. Also heard it cost closer to 300M than 200. Ive got no intention to watch it because Millers Flash was bad in every movie

lol, if it cost $300M, that would make it one of the six most expensive movies of all time. it better be the citizen kane of superhero movies if they want to have a chance of making that money back.

Thats just sad. I did notice Netflix doing more of that and it all looks so bad. Netflix has been going downhill too and is bleeding subscribers

Some of netflix reality TV is excellent. Blown away is like a cooking competition show where your cake could explode at any moment.

The people who got Snyder Cut released are literally the most opposed to Batgirl because they resent anything that isn't in the Snyderverse.

If reality TV enables the other stuff to get made, then it's serving a good purpose and you don't have to watch it

If it's like Netflix it gets their shows cancelled immediately because it doesn't put up the numbers the reality shows do for the cost jt takes to make them.

I completely forgot about this one, but apparently the Green Lantern HBO Max series is cancelled now.

It seems so bizarre to me how cancelling and removing finished projects can be considered positive money-making decisions. There is something deeply wrong with the system here.

I did watch the DC super pets animated movie in theaters the other day and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.

Oh fuck I just remembered they were going to make a Kite Man series too which could also be dead now

I keep getting reminded of more good stuff on HBO Max or coming to it

Yep. According to Hollywood the Star Wars OT, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter movies have never made any money. In fact, they all lost massive amounts of money that will never be recovered. How sad it is that they kept making those movies even after every single one of them somehow lost money. Hollywood is so generous... and now for some reality.

Sony tried to pulls this shit with Spiderman and when Stan Lee (owed 10% of profits) took them to court he won, which is why magically Marvel movies never seem to be claimed as money losers. If JK Rowling wasn't effectively in on the scam those Harry Potter movies wouldn't be considered to have lost money either. She actually had it in her contract with WB that they had to do "100% accounting" (what you and I would just call, you know, accounting) when it came to her royalties, knowing that everyone else involved was going to get screwed. George Lucas also didn't care about the fuzzy math because he negotiated to keep the toy rights (way to see the future, Mr. Lucas). I don't know what deal the Tolkein estate had, but the sheer increase in book sales alone probably left them feeling like they weren't totally cheated.

There are lots of others, too. Remember how My Big Fat Greek Wedding made like $350 million dollars on a $6 million dollar budget? According to Hollywood, it lost money. Forrest Gump lost money. 1989's Batman lost money. Anything Harvey Weinstein ever touched lost money. With Marvel movies being about the only ones to not claim a loss it's no wonder they're the only movies these days.

I would be in favor of this, but the implications are terrible. That would mean, in this situation, that Batgirl the character could fall into public domain. They won't allow that, so in the future they won't even try. They will literally only ever make movies they know will make money. Yes, they'd have to fix their accounting processes for that, but they'd really just narrow it down to about half a dozen blockbuster IPs and nothing else.

damn I can't even imagine living in a world where blockbuster movies just keep recycling the same IPs

No it wouldn't, that's not how it works at all. At best "the depiction of Batgirl as seen in the film Batgirl" would, but even then to use that version of Batgirl in your own work you would have to avoid using any aspect of that depiction that originated with a version of Batgirl still protected by copyright, so it would essentially be unusable anyway

There's a bunch of Superman cartoons that are public domain but that doesn't mean Superman is public domain

The one I remember offhand is how David Zaslav made it upfront that diversity is "not a priority" (fine), and then proceeded to hire all white men in high positions while canning one of the most powerful women in Hollywood (former WB CEO Ann Sarnoff). And then cancelling a bunch of shows and movies with non-white leads. Great optics.

The whole Discovery-Warner thing has honestly confused me since I thought Warner was under AT&T's ownership, but no it seems Discovery bought out WB from AT&T? Also I didn't even know about the buyout until I saw a video from guess what source?

The copyrights just weren't renewed, so they fell into the public domain on their own. Crazy, I know! It's the Max Fleischer cartoons from the early 1940's, and if you've never seen them before they warrant a look:

These cartoons are one of my favorite "ahead of their time" things; they just look so vibrant, so well-animated and with such bold cinematography that they don't look like they could be from WWII. These were the primary influence of Batman: The Animated Series a whole 50 years later! I just really love the 'art deco' vibe these films have.

These are public domain so anyone can just put 'em up anywhere. But there are other rights related to even specifically these films that are still owned, like merchandising rights. And the rights to Superman are still owned, of course.

oh, i actually own some of those superman cartoons on VHS. nice to know i can just watch them on youtube. the 2D animation in them is certainly among the best i've ever seen.

I know it's freely available, but I did some research and picked up the last copy left on Amazon for a Diamond Anniversary DVD release of them which is supposedly very good for just $7! There's a whole bunch of different releases from different companies, a funny result of public domain I guess.

Theres a $60 bluray on there too which is apparently absolutely horrendous.

Huh, I'm surprised you can buy those. I would have thought that it fell under the same loophole as "It's a Wonderful Life," where the movie itself is public domain, but because the short story it's based on is under copyright still, the movie's sale/screening is still restricted.

There's an official release, too. I assume it's actually just an "approved" release rather than from WB itself, though.

I've seen those Superman cartoons before but since it was always either poor broadcasts or bad VHS on old CRT TVs I had no idea how good they actually looked.

Yeah, Id put Harley Quinn in the same tier as Invincible even though Harley Quinn is pretty different. Vox Machina is great as well. Thought this was a great time for adult animation and I guess Discovery would rather cancel gold to make wet dog shit for content

Tuca & Bertie is still airing so after that finishes it's probably gonna be time to cancel.

Also keeping an eye out for news on Our Flag Means Death which was only renewed and entered filming for S2 not too long ago.

I'd say it's still below the insurmountable Bojack, and about even with Archer (haven't seen the last two Archer seasons yet if anything happened with that).

I haven't seen Invincible yet because I've already read it all, but I hear it's a great adaptation.

I also still like Rick and Morty despite the turn people have made on it, but it's still below these.

Smiling Friends will almost assuredly make this list too, but I wanna give it one more season to make sure.

I feel like bojack is much more approachable. I tried to watch Harley Quinn and found it somewhat cringy, although I didn't get very far

Season 2 is much better, but season 1 does find its way more part way through.

I wasnt immediately pulled in by the start of Harley Quinn, but it gets really great. I just love how much fun it has poking at DC/WB. Bane is a riot
