48. Squire (Beryl Hutchinson)
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/8/0/0/AAOJ0pAADXxY.jpg
The Batman of London is known as the Knight. And the Robin is Squire.

Squire is a teenage hero with all the youthfulness of a more classic Robin, with some of the camp and all of the hope and positivity that would bring. She brings a great amount of energy and pep with her, which is antithetical to the extremely dour mood that pervades London in this campaign.

London managed to use an ancient spell that turned Ireland into a shield against the invading dropships of Darkseid, and in the meantime, a man named Adam Susan took control of the government, and London remains in a very Big Brother-esque lockdown.

Squire rides through the streets on her Squirecycle, throwing her Squirerangs and doing Squirekicks at the villains that may pervade the streets in this time. All of these things are called by those names, and Squire will shout them out when she uses them. It's endearing.

I think the way that Squire has demonstrated the spirit of a Robin is so at odds with everything in this campaign, given how bleak everything is, and that helped her endear herself to us almost immediately. Despite recognizing that we may not be well-to-do citizens, she is also easy to speak to and has a willingness to work for the betterment of the people, which will be quite important when we return to London to get some stuff done.

Hint for 47: This character is associated with magic

Squirerank!

Squire has to be in my top 10 NPCs to voice in the campaign. She's another brainchild of Grant Morrison, so there's a natural pedigree of quality there as well. Definitely someone I cannot wait to return to whenever we revisit London.

My guess is going to be Chimp on the next one.

47. Pocus
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/8/8/5/AAOJ0pAADXyt.png
Pocus is a rabbit that belongs to Zatanna. I believe in the comics that Pocus is a boy, but Scar has her as a girl rabbit here. My character would know, as she is a biologist, and I used the line in-session "Can I sex the rabbit?" This line is not nearly as funny to a biologist as it is to someone else.

Pocus is a rabbit, which means, for all except two of the PC's, she is a bunny who wriggles her nose. And that's mostly it! Another NPC, named Misty, holds onto Pocus all of the time. Misty likes to nom on one of Pocus's feet. She also likes to speak as if Pocus is speaking, in a loud but stuttered manner, such as: "Pocus. Loves. Lush!" or "Data. Needs. To back! Off!" Yes, I am giving Pocus some credit for how another character uses them. Sue me.

Now, Data 7, who is Ermine's character, who is a dog, can speak to Pocus. So can Minerva (who has been mentioned in most of these write-ups so far), since she has Atlantean speak-to-animal abilities. And Pocus is a treat! She's a little vain - after all, she's a great stage magician. She is well-known across the world, doing shows with her assistant, Zatanna. We haven't seen too much of this attitude, but it is really fun to experience.

Pocus also has the responsibility of looking after Misty. Misty has some issues - I will explore them in another write-up, be it a ranking or a honorable mention, but Misty holds onto Pocus like a stuffed animal, as if Pocus is the totem that gives her some measure of sanity. Pocus accepts this responsibility, as Misty is very important, and Pocus is the only one capable of protecting her.

Lastly, Pocus might be a magic rabbit. Pocus will wriggle her nose, then a leaf will fall from a tree, and float so perfectly as to fly in front of the face of someone, startling them for a moment and causing them to fall. Or something like that. Pocus is either magic or just has a lot of convenient things happen around her.

Pocus might be considered an accessory character at times, but she has enough individual charm to earn this spot on this list.

Hint for 46: No superpowers, no problem.

46. Jack Cross
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/6/5/2/AAOJ0pAADX-s.jpg
And Scar and JB get the points. JB goes from a terrible guess to getting one right. Good job!

Jack Cross is a freelance anti-terrorist. One of the first things he told us was a story about how he saved George HW Bush from Japanese terrorists. And apparently killed Osama Bin Laden. He's the guy sent in when things need to be done quietly. This is interesting, because he's anti-war, and even claims to be a pacifist. For him, pacifism is quietly putting a bullet in the head of a terrorist to stop them without drawing any attention to it.

Jack was found in week 3 of our campaign at Mesa Verde, where a small group of survivors was holding out from OMAC attacks that happened nearby. Jack was a bit of a coward? One might say survivalist. He managed to get to the escape point, but everyone else in the place died. Super-Chief even gave his life for the party there. And so Jack was brought home, and eventually became a member of our first non-player field team.

Jack's charm comes from being a bit of a contrarian, speaking out against fascism including the inherent issues and history of Checkmate, and his knack for plain-spoken dry humor and sarcasm. Lush, who is Scare's character, a teeny-bopper hero wannabe turned supervillain turned reformed hero who has a past that's way more villainous than she remembers, found a kindred spirit in Jack. The pair don't hold standards of respect and good behavior that others might. This leads to a great deal of comedy in our debriefings. Or at least, it did. Jack doesn't get as much screentime nowadays, as we've added a lot more characters to our base.

Jack may not be as front-and-center as he once was, but he played a crucial role in the early campaign, adding some levity with dry wit that did not disrespect the dark and hopeless nature of the campaign.

Hint for 45: One of the greatest villains in DC history.

Honorable Mention: Carmen Leno

Carmen is the other half of the Body Doubles. She's got an idiotic genius about her. She's really fun, but being stuck in a cell for most of the campaign means she's spent a lot of time being really annoying. Lush recognizes her from porn.

Carmen just got out for helping us fight back against Kobra, and is a new member of our Suicide Squad! We'll see where she goes now that she's finally not just a captive of ours.

45. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/8/5/4/AAOJ0pAADYB2.png
That's right! The guy who destroyed the entire Green Lantern Corps and went back to the beginning of time in an attempt to rewrite the world in his image.

We just met Hal for the first time in week 71 sessions. It was our first session on Oa! With two sessions a week, that's some 560 hours in sessions before getting there. And, of the big seven Justice Leaguers, if you ignore A.J., he's the third we've met. In Central City, the party there managed to run into the Flash, both Barry and Wally, who were running through time or the speed force or something. And then right after, ran into Wonder Woman - turned into one of Darkseid's Furies with the Anti-Life Equation. Batman is said to be in NYC but a Bruce Wayne was seen elsewhere - can't determine. We are told Aquaman is dead. Martian Manhunter is dead. Oh, and Superman is Equated in Asia. So Hal is the first we've met who is actually accessible! But he can't get back to Earth...

Hal's role in this campaign begins with a whole bunch of shit that happened in the past. First, the vote - once upon a time, Doctor Light got aboard the Justice League satellite and assaulted Elongated Man's wife. There was then a vote to see if Zatanna would wipe Light's mind. Seven votes - Hawkman, Atom, Zatanna, Flash for, and three against - Black Canary, Green Arrow, and Green Lantern. This mindwipe laid the entire stage for the Society (all of the villains united) to band together to strike back at the hero community, as we came to learn that Zatanna mindwiped even MORE villains. Tons of them! We also learned that Lush, Scare's character who I recently described, was one of those villains. Lush has come to find out that she used to be a lot badder and more bloodthirsty than she thought. Now, this is about Hal, so let's get to him - this was a place where he was on the right side of things! But an important event nonetheless.

Sometime later, Hal became the host for Parallax, the creature of pure yellow that powered Sinestro when he turned from the Green. He did a whole bunch of bad shit. This is a place where Hal was in the wrong.

He also died, and then became the host for the Spectre. While as host of the Spectre, he interfaced with Varra, MI's campaign one character! Eventually, Hal was separated from the Spectre and remade the Green Lantern Corps, along with Coast City and some other stuff, I'm not too sure off-hand. The Corps is split - most people hate Hal. Most people across the entire universe do. Lanterns that were off Oa lost their ring's powers. Lanterns on Oa were killed. The Guardians were killed. After being brought back, the Guardians decided to trust Hal, but most of the Lanterns don't. That leaves us in a precarious position on Oa where we can't get the support we need without doing some dirty work.

Oh, and when Hal separated from the Spectre, the Spectre was left without a host. As an angel of vengeance unhinged, the Spectre went on a rampage, trying to destroy all sin. We've come to think he might be being guided by Eclipso, but how that interface happens, we're unsure. But he is trying to destroy all of magic, which is a large part of this campaign.

ANYWAY, that's all the stuff that Hal has done before the campaign and how it ties in. Since meeting him, we've learned that the Lanterns are forbidden from going to Earth (it's held in a cage made by Alpha Lanterns as they investigate the death of a New God), and are in open war with the Sinestro Corps. So the Lanterns are sort of in a weird place, but we're teaming up with the Earth ones as they all want to get back home, but also need help resolving issues with the Sinestro Corps, and oh yeah, a massive intergalactic war that has broken out between Rann and Thanagar.

Now, Hal has not had much of a chance to shine, but his classic heroism and dark past have been very potent so far. Let me talk of my character - Saoirse, a witch who knew John Constantine who has a massive guilt complex due to a bunch of shite in her past that she likes to hide. So guilt is a theme I went into this campaign holding dear to.

Saoirse just met Hal who has infinitely more reason to feel guilty than she ever does. And that makes him a person that she can really look at - not a mirror to reflect her own guilt, but almost like a mentor, who knows so much of what guilt is, what it can do, and how to move past it, or at least work with it. And though Saoirse's guilt is a little irrational with how tight she holds onto it, people like Hal (and others) provide a rational image that she can compare herself to, and perhaps gain some growth through.

Recently, Hal's niece Helen got injured in the attack that Kobra did on our base. This is an attack that Saoirse feels pretty guilty for (she was sleeping with Kobra while he was infiltrating and feels awful that she couldn't see anything before it all happened). And so a big part of Saoirse's recent guilt is about how Hal's niece got shot and it's just a potent feedback loop that I am loving so far.

In happier news though, we got ahold of the Star Sapphire Ring of our Sector (that Carol Ferris used to wield), and it is very excited to see Hal! It also assures him that Carol and him are meant for each other, and she might not know how to process the information that Hal slept with fellow Lantern, Arisia.

Hal is a great character who had such a big impact on the campaign before ever being in a scene, and him being this low in rankings I can only believe will be rectified as the campaign continues.

Hint for number 44: This character was encountered in Texas

That said, we all know the real answer for another character that we met in Texas is clearly... WORSHIP THE FIREHAWK

44. Jesse Custer
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/2/7/AAOJ0pAADYC_.png
Ha, you all were wrong.

Jesse Custer was a surprise appearance in campaign 1, being a Preacher out of place in Gotham of all places. He was a a player-favorite character, constantly at the tops of peoples' rankings, and was a nice little dash of DCU-unaffiliated Vertigo flavor.

Come to campaign 2. Jesse was a surprise encounter in the town of Warpath, a little place filled with refugees that Peacemaker (Chris Smith, not the one who died), Vigilante (not the one from the show), and Owlman were trying to get across the border into Mexico. Given that the party included one Spirit (Hombad's character who was played in campaign 1 and is a teenage doctor), Jesse was inclined to come back along with the party, as Taliesin (Scar's roommate, Raven's character) died in that session. And so Jesse, who would have kept looking for his girl Tulip instead, came back with the party as they were in bits.

Jesse hasn't gotten as much screentime as he did in campaign 1, despite being around longer in this campaign so far. That's just the nature of having so many God-damned characters, but still some gravitate toward him. In particular is Roz'etta, War's character who is a Saturnian (an offshoot race of Martians). Roz'etta worships the Martian god of death, H'ronmeer, and is the most religious PC by far. So she spends a lot of time with her old friend Jesse.

Recently, Roz'etta received a missive from Uncle Sam (the spirit of America, of whom we have a body representing one sliver of him) to rescue him and America. Roz'etta is pretty interesting in this regard, as most of the PC's are home-born Americans. My Saoirse is Swiss-Irish, and Raven's new character is Ukrainian. Roz'etta, however, is an alien from Saturn - otherwise, an immigrant to America. Perhaps the most American thing. Roz'etta brought Jesse with her to dive into a spirit vision from Uncle Sam, which has given Jesse some weird kind of new purpose.

After all, Jesse is a red-blooded American with a "Fuck Communism" lighter he inherited from his dad. He's a cowboy type. But he's already killed God. Like in his comic series, he makes a vow, and he was on way to do it in campaign 1, but here, he's done it. The only thing he has left to do is find Tulip. But now, he has a new mission - find a way to help America, and maybe condition it to be a little more like the America he believes in. Or just tarry away in our chapel, writing sermons, smoking, and being just a little bit of that spiritual wiseass that puts us on track.

Hint for 43: Out of all the characters remaining on this list, this one will be the most familiar to people.

Guessing Harley again. I think she'll be in your list and she's one of the most recognizable names.

We do not have much connection, you and I. Still, this encounter feels special. I hope you won't mind if I think of you as a friend.
