39. Blackbriar Thorn https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/3/8/AAOJ0pAADYqO.jpg Before Day of Vengeance, Thorn had like, 4 appearances? His original, against Superman and Etrigan, Crisis on Infinite Earths, Underworld Unleashed (where he fought with Sentinel in Hell), and a stint on the Injustice Society fighting against Sentinel in JSA. When deciding on a hint, I tossed about the following: debuted in Gotham (too wide of a hint), and debuted fighting someone other than who would become his arch-nemesis (too specific but nobody would have gotten it?? idk). Anyway, Blackbriar Thorn. Given he has had more appearances in Day of Vengeance, and Scar said DO NOT READ ANY OF THAT SHIT, anything that happened after JSA appearance is spoilers to not be mentioned or whatever we're talking about here. My character, Saoirse, is an Irish witch. So when talking about contacts (characters our PC's have pre-existing relationships with), I brought up druids to Scar, and he said the one person for that was Blackbriar Thorn. So I read what little there was on him and decided to agree. Since then, this bit-time character has been massively expanded in a way that very much suits my character, interlacing with her on a very deep level. Let's talk about Saoirse backstory for a moment - it took months for all of this to be revealed to the other players (because she's a cagey beast), but when Saoirse was young, she was the child of two parents who could not agree how to raise her. One day, she went off to play in the woods, and went further than she should have, into gnarled groves of old wood. There, a being of wood bestowed upon her a crown - a single stick, wrapped around her head. This stick could not be gotten rid of - it always returned. And after time, Saoirse learned that she could move it, put it where she wanted, control it in ways, and soon enough, it began to show a personality as well. This was Saoirse's familiar, Twiggy, a branch who would be beside her for the rest of her life. And Twiggy is also her wand! When Saoirse was like 12, she tapped her upper arm with Twiggy and accidentally gave herself a large tattoo - a half sleeve of roses. This was NOT something her mother would approve of, and so she had to hide the thing... for awhile. Now, because of her excursion in the woods, Saoirse's parents split and she moved to Switzerland. Then, after she got married and was found to be infertile, she got divorced and went to London, where she met Constantine and learned of the magic community at large. Saoirse would come to learn that her infertility was caused by Twiggy - and Blackbriar Thorn for giving him to her. After fucking things up in London, Saoirse went to live back in Ireland, where she was approached by Jade, the daughter of Sentinel, who brought news of Blackbriar Thorn's return, and was looking to head him off, as Thorn had pledged vengeance on Sentinel or something. Saoirse, or more appropriately Twiggy, was the link. But Saoirse didn't want to get involved. Jade later ran into Thorn, and the two fought, and Thorn was defeated when Saoirse offered some support to Jade. And so Saoirse's four contacts have been established - Constantine, Jade, her familiar Twiggy, and her enemy Blackbriar Thorn. Now, everyone has gone into the campaign with contacts, knowing that they might not run into them for years, or they might be dead, or whatnot. Lush hasn't met Bolt yet. We haven't run into Jade yet. Pepper hasn't seen Lagoon Boy or Hawkgirl yet. I wondered when I would see mine, at the start of the campaign. Saoirse started with Twiggy wrapped around her wrist, but inert, as our powers were being blocked. Then comes our very SECOND week of sessions, where we travel to the Schwarzwald, and found the magical refuge of Brucke der Dunen. Holding up the domain was a massive tree - Blackbriar Thorn. His role was to provide refuge for people, and he chastised Saoirse for scorning him, when she was set to be the princess of this realm (a title she has adopted somewhat in jest and somewhat because it makes her feel good). Also found there was Enchantress, representing the Shadowpact, who were trying to recruit Thorn to fight against the Spectre. Thorn was refusing, and before long, the Spectre attacked. Thorn fought him, but was defeated. And we escaped with the Shadowpact back to Z'onn Z'orr. And within the confines of Oblivion, the magic bar that the Shadowpact remains in? John Constantine. Second week, and two of my contacts + Twiggy. Surprising for sure. Anyway, we eventually returned to pick up a sapling of Thorn, still containing his essence, and brought it back, where it sits in a pantry in Oblivion. Thorn in this form continues to admonish Saoirse and sort of punish her in ways for scorning him, but he also takes advantage of the situation to try to get Lush on his side. See, Lush is a meta that controls plants, meaning she's connected to the Green, the very essence of the parliament of Trees, a mystical force that Swamp Thing was the avatar of. Thorn has been plying his wiles on Lush, trying to get her to side with him, in a way that is perhaps dangerous. As Matango, another ex-avatar of the Green is trying to get Lush to side with him as well, she is torn in two directions by these powerful plant-like entities. A dangerous game. Thorn is so important to Saoirse because there have been a lot of things in her life that she feels guilt for - her parents' divorce, and her own - and both are really Thorn's fault. He's the lynchpin that set Saoirse's destiny in motion, and despite being a creepy old dude who preyed upon a young girl, trying to steal her away to be his princess in a magical realm, she knows that he's too important to the Shadowpact's cause, and thus has to deal with his presence, despite the danger. Hint for 38: This is a character associated with Opal City. --- "Bordate is a pretty shady place, what with the gangs, casinos, evil corporations and water park." - FAHtastic ... Copied to Clipboard!

Thorn is very manipulative and he likes to play the game. The problem for my character is that he talks a lot of sense to her even knowing he's a piece of shit He's still more plant than man at the moment so the only way to talk to Thorn is through communing which Lush and Saoire can do. Problem is that Saoirse uses Twiggy to do it and there came a time where he was broken in half and we needed to fix him and Thorn was the only one who could. It made Lush be the only one able to talk to him to ask for help and he put her in a pretty sticky situation to offer his services, but she couldn't refuse since Twiggy is one of Lush's best friends himself. --- *Fastbreak Intensifies* *ScareChan Intensifies* ... 38. I, Spyder https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/7/7/6/AAOJ0pAADYvg.jpg I, Spyder was part of the Ludlow-Dalts, a family that had hounded Richard Swift, the Shade, through generations. However, Thomas Ludlow-Dalt, aka I, Spyder got blinded, and then received a vision. He was to put together a new Seven Soldiers of Victory with the purpose of taking down Neh-Buh-Loh, the harbinger of the next universe. However, recently, we learned that Gloriana Tenebrae, the Queen of the Gloaming of the Fey or whatever is slated to marry Darkseid, and she is the great darkness Spyder sees from beyond. Also, I just made the connection that Neh-Buh-Loh MIGHT be the giant hands that are tearing apart sectors of space, starting near Rann, so like, shit's big. So far, Spyder has collected one member - Boy Blue, an Irish boy from the country that Saoirse can have a conversation about home with. We are slated to assist him in finding the remaining soldiers, so that a team can strike back... and if Neh-Buh-Loh IS big hands, then when Trish said to bring a rainbow brigade, she didn't mean lanterns, she meant a group of seven colors, including Blue... I might be completely wrong about this, or I might have just uncovered a big mystery in the campaign typing up this write-up. Maybe Manchester Black will join our Soldiers? Booster Gold? Green Arrow (Connor Hawke)? ANYWAY I, Spyder was part of a family that pledged eternal vengeance against the Shade, and he got pulled away from it for a greater purpose. And being blind, he just... is so calm. So collected. Spyder enters scenes with an audible "tap tap tap" of his cane, and whenever he speaks, it draws everyone's attention. There are sometimes mentions of sight and such, right on the edge of being a joke, but never quite crossing over, unless he says it himself with a cool smile that just doesn't earn a laugh because it's so cool. Boyo just has gravitas. There is a lot of stress among many of the NPC's about the dire circumstances we're in, but for Spyder to see such a big one and remain to collected about it, that's just a dynamic that no other character has. Nobody shares his combination of mundanity and grandeur, that a guy who seems so much like he can be pushed aside is also so important, that a guy who is blind sees what is important so clearly. And the Shade hates him and Spyder is past that all... he's just a walking contradiction and it's hard for any character to match what he brings to the table. And his story is just beginning. Hint for no. 37: This character is, has been, or will be a parent. --- "Bordate is a pretty shady place, what with the gangs, casinos, evil corporations and water park." - FAHtastic ... Ellen Baker fulfills all of these rolls. But my guess for this one is of course Cheshire. She's coming up one of these times. As for I, Spyder - guy has one appearance in comics. One single appearance. But his tangential connection to Starman meant I had to give this Ludlow-Dalt a shot at greatness, and, quite frankly, I love his style. So one-appearance I, Spyder has become a crucial fixture in one of the many large, widely spanning storylines in the campaign. Almost everything about I, Spyder is original material, so I take a bit of pride in the fact he ranks! --- "It is too easy being monsters. The parent I'm talking about is not just a parent, it's the singular NPC who has been mentioned as a parent the most. How My Son 37. Rex the Wonder Dog https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/8/2/1/AAOJ0pAADYwN.png In campaign one, Data 7 aka Artemis (Ermine's character, who is a white pomeranian who was operated on by Man-Bat, to where he can speak English and get bigger and smaller) had a magic crown and summoned Rex, under Animal Man's suggestion. Artemis loved this older white dog, and Rex found himself falling into the role of guide for this orphaned dog. And thus Rex became Papa. Rex is a dog who is something like 80 years old or so. He had a boy named Danny, and went to war in WW2 to help the allied forces as a medic dog. The pair lasted for a long time by drinking the waters of the fountain of youth. Rex was one of the characters that Data 7 really wanted to find early on, and we found out he was in Orlando, so we went and we found him! He was at a fountain of youth... tainted by the Bleed (the space between alternate Earths). Danny had de-aged into a big egg, and Rex had to protect him. However, since we were giving up on that fountain, we eventually convinced him to come back. In Z'onn Z'orr, Rex and Data 7 have not interacted quite as much. This is because Data 7 is suffering from guilt and doesn't know how to handle it, as he sort of betrayed his best friends and led to his girl, Isis, getting captured by HIVE. Data 7 has trouble approaching Rex as much. There's angst there, and it's great as a gap between the two, especially since Rex recently got shot, and since he hasn't been drinking the waters of the Fountain of Youth for awhile, he is rapidly aging and dying. So Data 7 is stuck in this desperation ploy to help him, and is too young to know what to do. Another big relationship with Rex is with Spirit (Hombad's character, the teenage doctor). Spirit is our primary doctor, and Rex quickly joined the med bay staff. Spirit is also an orphan, and one who is very deeply mantled with responsibility. Spirit's older brother has been missing, and Rex is managing to fill a role for yet another PC. There's a lot of guidance that happens - I mean, Rex lived through decades with a boy, and now his boy is an egg, so he needed a new boy, and Spirit is that new boy. This is a dynamic with Spirit that we haven't gotten - Rex sort of fills that father figure status, so it's cool to see Spirit experiencing what he hasn't before. Rex is a really cool character (shades of Captain America, but as a dog). He's a father type, but also a dog, but also aged. He has some 40's sentiment at time. He's very unique! And recently, with him being injured, he's been riding around in a hover wheelchair, and he can't drive it at all, so he constantly bonks into things and runs over PC's feet. Honorable Mention: Cheshire https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/8/2/8/AAOJ0pAADYwU.jpg Cheshire was a huge part of campaign 1. She was so awesome! Predatorily flirty with my character, Fields, who was not interested but intimidated all the same. Fields even taught her how to play guitar! That was fun! Cheshire in this campaign was a member of the Secret Six, until she betrayed them and left. We recently just ran into her again for the second time... her previous last appearance was in Session 10A. And then she appeared again next in Session 76B. Anyway, Cheshire is just an absolute bitch and killer. She has opportunities to kill our party members, but doesn't, because she doesn't need to and just likes playing with us. Her goal is to find her daughter, the one she has with Arsenal, and really EVERYTHING else doesn't matter next to that. So yeah, Cheshire is a SUPER villain, especially to the Secret Six, especially Catman who she is pregnant with the child of, but she just doesn't CARE enough to be villain to us. 36. Catman https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/9/7/AAOJ0pAADY6x.jpg Catman is a member of the Secret Six. Meaning he was approached to join the Society, turned them down, had Deathstroke kill his pride of lions, and then he joined up with the Six to get revenge. Catman is a character we saw in campaign 1, who used No Man's Land to bulk up, and now he's the hunkiest character in both campaigns. Catman is a tortured soul. His pride was all murdered, when all he wanted to do was be left alone. We just learned it was his best bud in the Secret Six, Deadshot, who did the killing. Oh, and he knocked up Cheshire before she betrayed the Six and left. So Catman is just this ball of pathos, but within it all, a true spirit - Batman wanted Catman to join his Batmen of many nations, representing Lamumba, a nation in Africa. Catman didn't seem to care at the time however. Even though this all, he's been driven, though he is now being told by the spirit of his best friend lion to forgive Deadshot and that's a whole thing we've yet to really explore. Whether being eye candy or just a representation of how even a villain/merc gets toyed around with the Society, Catman is always interesting in a scene. He has a particularly good relationship with Roz'etta (War's character who is a Saturnian), as Roz'etta's adopted daughter is a sociopath and is now going to Catman for lessons on using weapons and killing. Accidentally deleted the first post while writing it so this is what I have the motivation to do, but here it is: Catman. I like cats. I like the catman. Catman is certainly the primary anti-hero of the Society story arc. He definitely has this wrath that barely bubbles under the surface, and you can often see that simmering violence waiting to explode outwards. After all, he carries all of the burden of a mass grave of his closest friends and family, and Catman normally travels light. He really rarely gets attached, and the loss of Hector and company definitely reinforces his isolationist policy, but he can't put a bullet in Luthor's head without help, so he has to endure interference in his sojourn. Before we backed The Cluemaster to help us end the No Man's Land in campaign 1, there was serious support for the Demon God territory which was lead by Azrael. After he was attacked though his territories needed a leader, and while his replacement (Lady Vic) was met with a variety of reactions from the players we all saw an answer we could all agree on. We wanted Catman to lead us out of the No Man's Land. Unfortunately campaign 2 is just more of the same for Catman, as what stopped him from being the leader we needed was Catwoman breaking his heart. What was supposed to be a mutiny to reject Lady Vic became an all out war that would lead into the late days of the campaign. 35. Kim Rebecki https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/5/4/1/AAOJ0pAADY7d.png Kim Rebecki is a detective who got entangled with the Resurrection Man. She has a power to touch a dead body and extract lingering information from them. She works in our morgue. She dug her fingers into Max Lord's dead skull. It was gross. Kim hasn't had as big a role in the campaign as some of the others, and aside from running the morgue, she's mostly only being interacted with by my character, Saoirse. However, Kim is a really cool customer. The pair kicked off a quick rapport - Saoirse being a punk and maybe a troublemaker, and Kim being a detective who was in the forces... there's some innate sense that there should be tension there, but I think expectations and current existing circumstances are enough for them to approach each other from a baseline of cordiality. Somewhere among the shared coffees and supportive arms, Saoirse may have grown a bit of affection for the woman, and then of course everything went to shit when Kobra attacked our base. Saoirse has been getting over that one, and hopefully will be fully mentally aligned soon enough. There isn't too much more to say. She still hasn't gotten as much screentime, since half her time has been spent digging into dead peoples' heads, but I'm very eager to see where more she goes. I can't say that for sure, but Oracle has 4916 results in the server. Barbara has 1899. The reason for this is that she was our boss in campaign 1. During No Man's Land, we all didn't have access to Batman or Nightwing, Alfred was lost, Robin wasn't in the city yet... Oracle was it. Half the players lived in the Clocktower with her. She was spoken to by every character so many times. She was the glue, character-wise, that brought our disparate parties together. When I first signed up to play in campaign 1, I gave it very little thought. I was dealing with my own campaign and work, and this was just something that seemed fun that I signed on for because I know Scarlet is a comics wizard. And when I had to design a character, I went with a silly little something. After all, like this campaign, we were encouraged to have contacts with existing characters, so my one sentence pitch was: Piano player who is forever friend-zoned by Barbara Gordon. It felt like a fun idea, I had no idea she would be so central to the campaign, and I am sure Scar was laughing it up at the time. There is so much to say about Oracle from campaign 1, but for the purposes of keeping this write-up more campaign 2 focused, I'll try to make it quick. In campaign 1, Oracle was the head of the team, as she'd be with the Birds, as she'd be with heroes in general around. In fact, Oracle was already the brain for the hero community - most scenes with Oracle started with her on her headset talking some hero through a mission they were on. But she managed to find time for us - after all, Gotham was her home, and it was pretty fucked, so that all was very important. During campaign 1, Oracle was instrumental to most every PC in some way - Roz'etta who returned to campaign 2 found a best friend who taught her the very best of what humanity could be and that she was worth something - to herself and the planet. Spirit who was offered a real home - a place he could sleep and be safe and be taken care of. And Spirit went through some shit in campaign 1, so it was a big help. And Data 7, who was Artemis at the time, just had someone who cared for him. Others - Fastbreak, who recently joined campaign 2, went through a big maturation in campaign 1 that Barbara helped to push him along. And then there was Fields. My character from campaign 1, who I never had any intention on chargen of actually getting anywhere with Oracle, had friendship blossom into something a bit more (which was great because Nightwing is a dick), and it helped to really centralize him as a consistent, albeit simple, character. His number one influence was Barbara, the girl who helped him out with bullies when he was younger and before she was injured, who he learned was Batgirl by accident and who influenced him to train to fight, and whose guidance he (almost) always followed after entering into the hero community. In the world of the campaign, Fields managed to play a part of normalcy for Barbara, giving her time to be just a young woman for a change. I won't lie but the roleplay played a sort of therapeutic role for me as well. But mostly, Babs was just a kickass girl who was hyper-intelligent, very capable, her paralysis was not a disability but just a thing, and she represented a strength that perhaps only a Batfamily member could have. In campaign 1, whenever I would do rankings, she was either number 1 or number 2, depending on the day, and that would stay consistent. --- "Bordate is a pretty shady place, what with the gangs, casinos, evil corporations and water park." - FAHtastic ... SO LET'S TALK CAMPAIGN 2 and the first mention of Barbara was when the Aerie 1 was found, having not been able to take off from Gotham. This was like, week 7. There were signs that bad stuff had occurred for the Bird of Prey, and as a casual observer of the session, I just sat back, took notes, and fretted a bunch. After all, most of the heroes, especially the women, all got a pretty bad turn of events due to Darkseid, so I didn't have the most hope that things were going well, but seeing the signs just helped settle in the despair. Fast-forward to like, week 30 or so, and one of the parties explored the Gotham Zoo in session. It was a place Batcow suggested to visit (yes, Batcow), and the party had to work through some OMAC's to get to where Bud and Lou (the hyenas that belong to Harley Quinn) had been guarding - a Batcave in the zoo that we visited in campaign 1, which was really a Spoilercave. And lo and behold, it was not just Batcow and Ace the Bathound and Alfred the cat who were in the cave, but also human Alfred, a shattered Nightwing... and Oracle. The amount of emotion that everybody experienced upon meeting Oracle in campaign 2 had to have been through the roof. And more, the relief that everyone felt that she was OKAY. After all, the world is shit, but she held everyone together through No Man's Land, she could do it here!... That wasn't quite the case, but the catharsis that came from seeing her was just huge. The interactions were a little over the place - Spirit and Data 7 seeing her again was great. Roz'etta and her had some junk to sort out about Roz'etta leaving Earth before the campaign because she saw Waller smooching President Luthor... Brennus (MI), who is the son of MI's campaign 1 character Varra, that was a good meeting. It was just different. Cathartic, but different. She was also totally in despair. She is a hooked-in girl - without internet, satellite, she was completely broken and that was really sad to experience. However, somehow by getting Nightwing to agree to it, we started bandying a resistance in Gotham together under the leadership of Batman (Harvey Dent), and running organization again, Oracle has managed to stamp out her pathos in the usual way - by being an unhealthy workaholic. We don't pop in to Gotham as much as some of us would like, but she's waiting there at the least. For me, for Saoirse, there isn't quite as much reason to talk to her. We got a satellite phone hooked up where we can, but Saoirse doesn't have an association with her. Just mutual friendship with Roz'etta, and a mutual interested in the Bleed - see, the Bleed is the space between dimensions, which was also spawned by Oracle's best friend and Fields's sister, Trish. We will get to Trish in an honorable mention at some point. But Saoirse has been interested in the Bleed since we found the Fountain of Youth, and it's becoming apparent recently that the Bleed is important as the story in space seems to be that Thanagar is trying to create a universal empire and bring all energy and matter into a singular point to create a new universe, which is all linked to the Bleed in some way. So yeah, important stuff. Also, last anyone heard about Fields and Trish, they got lost in the Bleed. It's a bit of a shame for me not to rp with Oracle more since I did it so often in campaign 1, especially since I used her when designing Saoirse. My goal in designing my current character was to try to be opposite of Fields, but also take some influence from Oracle, so I have ended up with an intelligent redhead who wears glasses and has divorced parents. In fact, last I spoke to her, I tried to fight a bit, play around with a negative relation... but Oracle is in work mode and Saoirse is a little too practical to bring a fight into things, so it ended up going in a more productive direction, which was interesting. Anyway, Oracle who was number 1 or 2 at any given moment in campaign 1 is sitting lower for me now. Still high - not just because of campaign 1, but because she is still the multi-faceted character who has been shouldering the burden of responsibility, to the point where it's all that keeps her sane. To where her interactions with characters are still always ace. And where, if I find out she had something romantic with Ted Kord, she is dropping like 20 rankings. But she is still The Oracle, and if we had more interaction with her, maybe just maybe, she'd be climbing back up. <3 Babs Hint for 33: This is one of the younger heroes of Z'onn Z'orr. --- "Bordate is a pretty shady place, what with the gangs, casinos, evil corporations and water park." - FAHtastic ... Oracle is Oracle, and one day she'll get her time to shine in campaign 2. And it will be so, so wonderful to see The Oracle back in full action. And my guess for this is Alice. --- Not a stinky alien. :( Nintendo Switch Code: SW-5719-6555-8388 ... Copied to Clipboard!

Mah Jaime is next. Oracle needed to step aside for Campaign 2, but I imagine her role will be increased once we come back to Gotham a time or ten. I will always stand by that repairing Barbara Gordon's legs was such a stupid fucking decision by DC. I think my favorite aspect of Barbara in this campaign is that she always calls Brennus "Little Brennus". And because of the timeline, she's like 6 years older than he is, which means she was 12 when No Man's Land happened. --- "It is too easy being monsters.
