I went in knowing that Jesse's role would be reduced in this campaign, but I think there are some stories that can't be told without him - hell, the Saint of Killers sitting on the throne of heaven, Alice's revelation, I think can't be told without him. And I adore Jesse. He's one of my favorites.

This ranking could theoretically be Joker.

I never intended for Roz'etta to be particularly religious, but Jesse was there, and she went through enough that it gave me a chance to really stretch into that, and it's been for the better.

43. Leroy

Leroy is a magical familiar, belonging to one Traci 13. He's a beast of arcane origin, summoned by her to assist her in, well, magic life.

Leroy was first encountered in El Paso, hanging out with Jaime's (the new Blue Beetle) friends. Leroy had a problem - the gang of La Dama had kidnapped Traci. Now, Leroy has telepathy - he's a magic creature, so why not? Pretty early on though, Leroy established his catchphrase "Chip please". And thus he rode along with the party, requesting chips and hoping they would help find Traci.

After a few weeks in El Paso, as a group, we weren't fully sure on how we wanted to resolve the city (war between El Paso and Juarez, La Dama and the Weeping Woman, separated by a wall of corpses aside the Rio Grande), so it was left alone for a bit. This is where my person investment comes into play.

My character, Saoirse, is a witch. She too has a familiar - a prehensile stick that curls around her wrist and can be used as a magic wand, named Twiggy. So from the get-go, I had an with Leroy because I'm the only person with a familiar. And meeting Leroy was both sad and inspiring. See, Leroy was disappointed that we had not yet rescued Traci - and all he had to do in the meantime was hang out in the sink of our mess hall where he could get warmth and free food. But Traci is everything to him - she's his raison d'etre. So with all the devotion he could muster, he pleaded with Saoirse to go rescue Traci. This made deciding the fate of El Paso/Juarez a little easier - I would go, and I didn't care what result we chose, as long as we got Traci out.

Anyway, we did as such, and now Leroy, like Pocus, is perhaps more accessory to Traci than hanging out on his own. He has a new catchphrase "Traci, no!" as his mage treats him like a pet and teddy bear a little more than the rest of us did. He still hangs around in those scenes, but Leroy doesn't get as much solo adventure time, though that might change if Data 7 (Ermine's dog) allows the iguana into his gang.

One of the cutest things - Leroy and Twiggy are best buds. Leroy is always excited to see Twiggy, and will extend a claw for Twiggy to bomp. Then Twiggy likes to get on Leroy and ride him around. They are absolutely adorable. I even have art of the pair.

Oh, and Leroy can get massive and destructive. Just don't tell Traci he can do that!

Hint for 42: This character has an alliterative name

42. Captain Marvel (Freddy Freeman)

In, I think week 3 of the campaign, we traveled to Fawcett City under direction of the Shadowpact (the secret alliance of magicians who band together when the existence of magic is at stake) to try to find clues as to the location of Captain Marvel, the Superman of the magical world. In a city run by his very villains, we found not Captain Marvel, but Captain Marvel Jr., Freddy Freeman.

After a short jaunt to the Rock of Eternity's resting place, we found that the wizard Shazam had been replaced by Billy, now going just by Marvel. And thus Freddy was christened the new Captain Marvel. However, he had little powers yet - SHAZAM is the magic word that granted Billy the powers of Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, etc... Freddy's magic word is CAPTAIN MARVEL. And when he was granted the title by Billy, he only had the power of one letter - M, for Marvel.

Since then, we have collected powers of Chiron, Ale, Nanaue, and most recently Vyndktvx. A curious pantheon, but one of necessity. Freddy has been regaining his powers, and even had the wherewithal to help gods of Order and Chaos, Terataya and T'charr hold off the Spectre for some time. Until they fell.

So what makes Freddy such a good character to interact with? Maturity. He's got a real thing about maturity. Freddy is older than Billy by a bit, but Freddy was Captain Marvel Jr. And Freddy is still young - 19 or so? And yet, in Z'onn Z'orr, he was with us by week 4 and was more experienced than the PC's or most of the people we'd be collecting. That has changed somewhat since, but always, Freddy is focused on the mission, not too easily distracted, and for lack of a better word, heroic. He does a better job at representing a hero than most anybody in Z'onn Z'orr.

Freddy has some interesting relationships, such as being one of the first to point out Saoirse (my witch) as being a better person than she tries to let on. But his friendship with Brennus (MI's character, the wizard son of Count Vertigo) is perhaps the marquee. Brennus is sort of opposite of Freddy in a lot of ways - Freddy is organized, polite, clean - Brennus is a slob (who eats cheetos out of his pockets). Freddy is measured and reserved - Brennus is brash and impulsive. But Brennus, despite everything he's learning, still has a drive to help people without a thought. Brennus rushes in to danger without thinking more than anyone. And that sort of heroism is I think a link between the two. Brennus may be so very different than Freddy, but that just serves to complement both.

Brennus also has a big crush on Freddy, but Freddy is sort of focused on getting his powers and finding Mary Marvel, so that one has hit a bit of a standstill as Brennus starts learning how to be a ho from my character. But that friendship is still strong, and still mayyyyybe could develop into something more? Boy I don't know.

Hint for 41: A character whose prime was before the Vietnam war.

Freddy could at some point be the number 1 character in the game tbh

I love the quest of Freddy getting his powers. It's the most childlike, wide-eyed accounting of magic in this campaign, and it's the perfect adventure for a character out of the innocent Fawcett Comics imprint. I'm so glad people like him

I love Freddy! Not just in the crush that Brennus has on him, but overall as a character too. He's awesome.

I know he's not in this 52, but sure, I'll guess Iron Munro just so people that aren't in this campaign either wonder who Iron Munro is or get to know that we've seen him.

41. Hamilton Drew

He's Hamilton Drew!

Hamilton Drew was found in Opal City. He's a detective from the past - a man whose abilities rivaled that of Sherlock Holmes. Hamilton Drew was rescued from a poster containing a demon, I think by Jack Knight (Starman), and/or Elongated Man. I don't remember specifically.

Anyway, we found him at Elongated Man's house, and immediately he got to work helping us do detective work. Hamilton Drew is just so cool and collected when it comes to doing this stuff, and thinking through. He leads his own field team at this point, and whenever we get a chance to talk to him, it's always a very fascinating look at some sort of riddle through a lens of the DM thinking things through intelligently without giving us the answer when the DM knows the answer.

Jack Cross is a big fan of him as well.

Anyway, it's hard to write too much about him for myself, but one of my favorite things about Hamilton Drew is that he always walks around in a bathrobe and plays the clarinet. He even fights with the clarinet!!

Hint for 40: This character has had sex with a player character (either in this campaign or campaign 1 or both)

Hamilton Drew is a character I've always get backstory and side story material for. One of the beautiful things about the Starman series is just all of the rich history that James Robinson fills Opal with, and I'm glad that Drew has played a fairly vital role to the campaign.

Cheshire is my guess.

40. Snapper Carr

I almost went with the hint "Has made the most appearances", but the discerning player would get it. So I went with a hint that has a slew of characters that could very well be on the list but was limited.

Snapper is our teleporter. In both of the first sessions, he was the second person each group met (after the Spectre) that has made multiple appearances. And Snapper has shown up in the vaaaaast majority of sessions. We start most of our sessions in the Snap Zone, and Snapper takes us to the place where our session is. He is usually sarcastic during these times, and is not happy when we ask him for a map of the place we're going.

Snapper used to be the mascot of the Justice League. Then he gained powers through some aliens or something and when A-Day hit, he followed protocol to get to Z'onn Z'orr. Without Snapper, there is no Checkmate. He was the single most important person we had for awhile there.

Now, Snapper as a person? As I said, he's sarcastic. He can be a dick at times. Especially at Brennus (MI's character) who just wants to wave at him. Poor Brennus! But Snapper is VERY nice to Lush (Scare's character). As in, Lush and Snapper canoodle. They are as dating as one can date in Z'onn Z'orr. Now, on one hand, this lets Lush, the ex-supervillain whose mind was wiped, to be more kind and domesticated, but also he's very forgiving to her which allows her to get away with some shit. On the other hand, because she's got so much shit, Snapper is almost free to have all his own. And he has his own.

Snapper is married. He thought he was divorced, but technically never sent the papers to his wife, Bethany. Also, he once dated a girl named Midge and forgot to break up with her. And she waited for him! Both girls were found on a recent session that Lush was there for, and got to see both snog with Snapper. And yet Lush is forgiving him because she got Vegas married shortly before that mission.

Earlier in the campaign, however, Snapper went missing, and using our recently acquired second teleporter, Multi-Man, we found where Snapper was. His powers had stopped working from overuse, and he accidentally snapped to Austin, where he ran into the Cheetah, and the two hit it off. So Snapper and Lush had been together, then Snapper got with Cheetah, then we found them and brought both back to Z'onn Z'orr... drama.

Cheetah imprinted on Snapper and has been obsessed with him since. This has created a dynamic that isn't explored as much as I'd like, but I'm not a part of it. There were opportunities for Pepper Spray (Inviso's character) to help Cheetah develop pheromones to get Snapper to push away Lush and go back to Cheetah, which she would have done because Pepper hated Lush because Lush bullied her early in the campaign to put her in her place, but that ended up fizzling because Pepper was afraid of Cheetah, who she was also a big fan of.

ANYWAY, this is where things get personal for me and my character - Saoirse was saved by Lush early on in some sessions and was encouraged by her, so Saoirse developed a crush that slowly developed, and though the pair developed a friendship, it got a little heated. The two hooked up a few times, and though Lush seemed to be just into having fun with her friend, Saoirse developed deeper feelings. Now, this affair came to light thanks to Pepper making a guess (metagaming BS more like) and, as previously said, Snapper couldn't quite get mad with Lush because Snapper had hooked up with Cheetah.

Anyways, this makes it... a love hexagon.

Snapper and Saoirse don't get along. Saoirse is my character, and Snapper is one of the most important NPC's we have, so we are in this situation where there's a lot of angst between the two and we can't just not interact, and it's so much fun. Saoirse isn't as jealous of Snapper as Snapper is upset about Saoirse, but even still, she grills him and he straight-up calls out her shit, so there's a negative relationship there that is also really cute because the two are 100% united on caring for Lush and worrying about what's going to happen to her if/when she gets her memory back. I need to rp with him more, because this is a really good relationship that I don't explore enough.

Anyway, Snapper is great because he's so prickly and honestly, if we didn't have to interact with him as much as we do, he might not get seen as much, but because he's in so many sessions, he gets to just be a jerk and if he directed it at Saoirse more than she'd clap back and others should do that more. Snapper is just so much fun!

Multi-Man is a villain who is pretty crazy who was stuck in a tube for like 10 years. He somehow started calling himself John Davison (Hombad's character). He dies and comes back to life with a new power. So when Snapper got lost, session began with us in the Snap Zone and Multi-Man getting shot repeatedly until he could teleport.

Anyway, he's crazy, kind of dumb, but also adorable in ways and really a blast to have along.

I think Fire is a great guess.

Snapper always being on the edge of a breakdown is one of my favorite aspects of his character. The sheer tonnage of shit he has to deal with that no one else is even aware of? Snapper really has a strength of will that he hides behind his glib demeanor, and I find that fascinating.

Yeah even removing my character from the equation Snapper is a really interesting character to see. There's always the question of if he's going to burst and go missing again, or worse. But he is also a great picture of a hero in this Darkseid world where sometimes the D-listers are the ones that shine the brightest

Also Multiman getting his power I enjoyed because as soon as the premise was set that he had to die until he could teleport, Lush joined in on killing him repeatedly along with the npcs who actually were tasked with it until Waller stepped in to stop her several kills in
