It just feels like it retcons so much and I hope it ends up actually making sense with the past and this was always the plan. Like how does that work with what we have seen to this point? If he is zoan then is his "normal" rubber self actually a hybrid form and he just hasnt changed in like 12 years? I think the sticking point for most people is how or what his power is now, and this chapter probably won't delve too much into it. Obviously since Nika is a god in the One Piece world no one quite understands what exactly this power up is, where all other mythical zoans are based on real life mythicals/gods. But it was nice when other characters not named Luffy, Zoro and Sanji actually got to do relevant things and actually felt important. Yeah, I care about Chopper the most, but Enis Lobby had so many awesome moments for every character and I feel like it was never really captured again. I stopped after Whole Cake Arc and Chopper was FEATURED in that one, he just didn't do anything. So like... They've taken a major backseat in the second half besides like Luffy and Sanji during Whole cake.
